Question:
I have 2021 4runner. Some people say brake input wire needs a diode to prevent back feed errors in manual mode. Is this an issue?

Whether you are using the user controlled mode (manual mode) or the proportional mode on the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR there is no need for a diode. The only other thing you would need to install the RedArc Tow-Pro Eilte would be the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Classic or Elite Trailer Brake Controllers # RED49FR (if you have the tow package, I am assuming you have the tow package due to the product linked being the tow package harness) or the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR (if you do not have the tow package). I have not heard of an issue of needing a diode when using the manual mode on the Tow-Pro Elite. The manual mode is typically used when overlanding or towing a trailer off-road because you may need to alter the trailer's braking based on the specific terrain and situation that you find yourself in. Otherwise, you will want to use the proportional braking function.
If you happen to not have the tow package, there are some additional parts you may need like the # ETBC7. But feel free to reach out to me if that is the case and I can be sure you have everything that you need.
