Question:
I want to get a brake controller for a 2025 Limited 4WD 4Runner. I installed one previously on a 2012 4Runner and it was easy, somewhat a plug and play. How hard will it be to install a brake controller on the new 4Runner? My understanding is the new 2025 4Runner does not have the receptacle to plug the adapter into. What are your thoughts and what would you recommend. Thanks Paul

Hey Paul! Does your 2025 Toyota 4Runner have the factory tow package? If it does, there is a brake controller port you can use for plug and play installation. If you're using the Tekonsha POD # TK92UR you got before then you need the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter # 3041-P. If you need a new brake controller I do recommend upgrading to a proportional like the P3 # 90195.
If you don't have the factory tow package with the brake controller port you will need to install a 7-way and then splice in for brake controller installation. You can use the Curt # C59236 for a 4-way and then upgrade it to a 7-way using the # ETBC7 you were looking at. This will, of course, be a more extensive installation process. However, it is the only way to install a brake controller if you don't have the factory wiring.
Do you have a trailer you typically tow or do you just want your vehicle ready to go for towing?
