Availability of a 2 Trailer Hitch for a 2004 Toyota Matrix to Carry a Bike Rack

Question:

Those straps are ridiculous, but a class II hitch would be easier to adapt for sure. I have a yakima holdup

You are definitely on the right track when it comes to not wanting to use an adapter for your bike rack. The only trailer hitches that are a confirmed fit for your 2004 Toyota Matrix have 1-1/4" receivers but if you let me know what bike rack you have I can check to see if there is an adapter that was made specifically for your bike rack (provided that we carry your bike rack).

For your application I recommend installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12221. This trailer hitch requires the use of the stabilizer strap # 18050 for all non-trailer loads per the warranty but the only other option is the Draw-Tite # 24812. I don't recommend going with the Draw-Tite because it has a tab welded on the inside which can prohibit the use of some 1-1/4" accessories.

We do carry hitch receivers expanders like the Brophy # HTAD that allows you to use a bike rack with a 2" shank with a trailer hitch that has a 1-1/4" receiver but this reduces the weight rating of your trailer hitch by 50% so if there is a custom adapter for your bike rack it is definitely the better way to go as it will not reduce any weight ratings.

Thank you for the info! I am glad to hear that you have the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443 because I do have a solution for you. There are no "adapters" for the HoldUp but you can simply use the Replacement 1-1/4" Tongue # 8880581 so that you can use it with the Curt # C12221 and not have to use an adapter. The adapter will change your HoldUp so that it is the 1-1/4" version # Y02445. This is also the best option your for bike rack as Yakima says not to use adapters with their bike racks unless they are built specifically for the rack.
