This Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver gives you a solid 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" opening rated for 2,500 lbs gross trailer weight and 250 lbs tongue weight. It’s built for small campers, trailers, or cargo carriers when you need extra hauling capacity. The Class II rating means it’s stronger and more versatile than standard light-duty options, so you can tow with confidence and still keep plenty of ground clearance.
The entire hitch is made from fully welded steel, giving it a tough, one-piece construction that holds up to years of use. It’s finished with a gloss black powder coat laid over a protective base coat that resists rust in wet or salty conditions. The round-tube design adds a clean look under the bumper while staying strong where it counts.
You don’t need a lift or specialized tools to get this hitch on—just bolt it in place using the included hardware kit. The holes line up with the existing points on your frame, so there’s no trimming or welding required for most installs. With clear instructions and a straightforward design, even a driveway install is manageable with basic hand tools.
The 1-1/4" receiver gives you plenty of accessory options for bikes, cargo carriers, or small trailers. Drawbar, pin, and clip are sold separately so you can choose the setup that fits your gear best. For non-trailer loads like racks or baskets, Curt recommends using a stabilizing strap to keep everything steady and maintain the hitch warranty.

I (female) installed this hitch by myself on my Toyota Matrix XRS and towed a uhaul trailer from Maryland to California with no problems. Excellent product. Highly recommend. I also called customer service with a couple of questions during install and had an excellent experience.
The hitch went on in twenty minutes.
The wiring harness took much longer, but I elected to run the battery wire along a harness in the driver side interior. So I had to remove a few panels and put them back when I was done, but it works flawlessly.
Received product it was obviously well built to haul nearly any trailer, appeared to be quality welded and painted. Instructions were easy to follow, heads up about the rusted threads on older vehicles was accurate. Install time was longer than 30 min due to the threads on the vehicle. I first saturated threads with WD40 3 times over 2 days. Brushed out threads each time and tried to thread in the bolt after each application. Since threads resisted, I re-thread the welded nuts and that worked.
Install further required strapping back the muffler a bit as was noted in the instructions for the Pontiac Vibe. actual bolt up time around 10 to 15 minutes , everything lined up perfectly. How often does that happen ?
Overall I am very pleased.

Fairly easy installation... It was a bit of a challenge to get enough leverage on the wrench to reach the beefy torque requirement, but got it done. I've used the hitch a bunch of times to transport bikes, and it's been perfect for the job. This is installed on a 2004 Pontiac Vibe GT.
The trailer hitch receiver for our 2010 Toyota Matrix was a perfect fit! The online instructional videos made it a breeze to install. I was able to mount it without an extra set of hands (although the exhaust pipe was conveniently placed to serve as a temp hanger on the passenger side...:) Delivery came sooner than expected and the bike rack we bought it for also fit perfectly. Etrailer.com provided excellent service and a perfect product. We couldn't be any happier with this transaction.
Received my hitch with no delay, products that I had bought were as stated.. I found out about you guys from watching youtube, even how to install my hitch and how to wire my car for it. All of you show great concern about product, from taking orders and asking about its install. Well,safe to say I got my hitch shipped to me in no time. I installed my hitch and wiring of it. Install of both went well. Thanks to everyone involved with my purchase and to the ones that put the vidios on youtube.
Easy to install. Only problem is lack of enough clearance from muffler. Any little bump you go over on the road or worse if you are on a dirt road, the muffler makes quite a racket rattling on the hitch.
Installation time is much longer than advertised. Expect to invest in a M12x1.25 tap to ream out the threads in the frame bolts. (These are hard to find and I suggest etrailer stock these.) The nylon tube brush suggested by etrailer to clean the threads in the video may work in a newer vehicle but not in my 2012 Toyota Matrix S and a tap was necessary. There was also an issue with the muffler hitting the hitch frame. I solved that grinding the channel back where it hit the muffler (which was in a non-structural area). Bending the muffler hanger back to move the muffler back as suggested in the comment section didn't seem like a good permanent solution to me. Otherwise I thing the hitch is a great product. Installation wasn't as easy as advertised.
It went on easily enough and has stayed on. I’ve used it for trailers and other hitch attachments with no issues.

The hitch outlasted my car. I never had any issues with it and it performed the way it should.
I received the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver. I had to grind 1/8" off corner of the hitch, to add clearance for muffler on my 2012 Toyota Matix AWD. After modification and cleaning out 4 pre tapped holes in frame, I installed hitch within a hour.
Received hitch earlier than expected & all looked new & undamaged, however the bolts attaching the hitch did not fit. I cleaned the existing nuts in the frame with WD40, a tooth brush & Qtips but the bolt gets very tight quickly & feels like the threading is wrong & tightening feels that it is damaging the nut. So I called & gave them all the information on the bolts they sent & told them the problem I was experiencing. They elected to send me a new set of bolts which are the same as the originals so I haven't been able to install the hitch. At first it looked like this was going to be an easy job but because of the bolts nothing has been accomplished. I'm not sure what to do! Buy a tap to tap nuts to fit bolts or try to find & buy the right size bolts for the existing frame nuts. What do you suggest???

Due to the age of your vehicle, and the fact that you live in an area that experiences winter weather, the nuts that are welded into the frame members that are used to mount the hitch are very likely corroded which is preventing you from fully threading in the installation hardware. In many cases, a good shot of spray lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster and some scrubbing with a wire brush from a battery terminal cleaner # DW00254 will clean the threads well enough that the bolts can be threaded into place. In some cases, when the corrosion is severe, a M12 x 1.25 thread tap is needed.

Arrived very quickly. Installation was a breeze. Took advice from video and cleaned bolt threads first. 4 bolts later and it was installed. No difficulties at all and no trimming of plastic. Very pleased.
After sitting on the living room floor for 4 days, I finally found time to hook up it up. It was straightforward, a breeze to install. Makes my car look a bit manly now lol. I will use it to tow a dirtbike, mountain bikes and a wheelchair.
I installed the hitch on a 2004 Toyota Matrix. The only problem I had was that each of the 4 pre-drilled and threaded holes in the frame needed to have a tap run through them before I could install the hitch, otherwise it has worked great.
Excellent! Installed entire kit in under an hour. Hardest part was the bolt holes on the undercarriage. They were rusty and needed to be retapped. The electrical was a breeze. Great product. Hitch blends in well with car, 5 stars!
Fits perfectly on our 2005 Toyota Matrix (base model) - only problem was getting the weld nuts cleaned out, but after 10 years of Midwestern winters I'm not surprised that they were extremely crud-filled. I used a wire brush from a shotgun cleaning kit and lots of WD-40 to clean them out.
So far so good. Bought this hitch for a 2005 Toyota Matrix. After I tapped the frame bolt holes out, tons of road grime, this hitch mounted right up. Uaing it for a hitch mounted 2 bike carrier and it's done great so far. Just drove 800 miles with the bikes on the back and no problems.

Bolted directly to existing nuts welded in frame of 07 Pontiac Vibe. Challenge is the originality nuts were rusty and dirty. Soaked in liquid wrench, Wd40 for a couple of days but that wasn’t enough to get bolts started. Enddd up running an M12x1.25 tap into them and with some patience they cleared out and made for an easy install.
Easy to install on my 2005 Pontiac Vibe.
Good instuctions.
It helps a lot to have a swivel to get the socket behind the exhaust. Still easily beat the 30 minute estimated install time even after the search for my torque wrench.

Thank you for your review. This is actually an easy fix. You would just need to bend your hanger bracket to get the exhaust further away from the hitch.
