I was very happy with etrailer's customer service and fast delivery. This 2in adapter was a cheaper alternative than installing a full hitch. Now I attach our bike hitch rack!

Carol C. at etrailer was awesome. Somehow the part fell out of the box en route to me and I received an empty cardboard box. Carol immediately agreed to ship a replacement to me and it showed up earlier than estimated. No hassle, terrific customer service. And the part looks strong.

Very heavy duty. Will use it with a bike rack I had for another vehicle that had a 2" receiver.

I want to adapt my 11/4 hitch to 2 for a Hollywood platform bike rack. However, the hitch adapter I got locally had some play in it. Do you have any movement with your platform bike rack with your adapter? The movement I had was where the adapter slid into the hitch, not with the bike rack.

Nancy, the adapter has very little movement in my Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver. It fits good with the bike rack

Has worked well, this fits the low weight capacity bike carrier 1 1/4 inch hitch. Not a full capacity 1 1/4 inch full towing hitch. Believe it or not they are different. So get the correct one.

The product works great. Original shipping didn’t include the Class 1 clip, took sometime to get it reshipped. Otherwise, great to do business with Etrailer. Very helpful. Thanks,

We really like our extension hitch. It was easy to install, and we are easily able to put our bicycle rack into the hitch. We also like that the extra length allows us to use the back lift door on our suv.

Yes, works great, all the other brands, the stinger could not align with pinhole because the adaptor was about 12 inch too short. This is just right

The HTAD Hitch Adapter was purchased to accommodate my 2" bike rack in the 1 1/4" hitch receiver on my new car, dissolving my initial dismay at the size of the freshly-installed hitch. The car salesman knew exactly how to solve the problem and texted your website with this product to me right away. It is well-made and beefy enough for the job. Need met. Happy me.

Perfect fit. The dealer installed hitch needed specific adapter. Tried buying at local shops but the holes didn't match up. Now I I can use my hitch mounted bike rack.

I needed this product to adapt a standard Honda 1 1/4 inch hitch to a bike rack with a two inch mounting bar. Ordinarily, the hitch bar might have fit the standard Honda mount, but there was a blocking reinforcement bar under the Honda mount. This mount enables me to conform both the existing and bike rack mounts. Note: I carefully measured hole distances from ends of each mount to be sure it fit, which it does. I have no time to test the mount with the full rack load right now, but it seems to be within specified tolerances.

I am very pleased with my service from etrailer. After I ordered, I got a call from an etrailer rep who advised me that the two parts I ordered would not work together, and she had a ready (and cheaper!) suggestion of an alternative part that made the whole order workable. My order came very fast, even though I didn't use the fastest shipping method.

- HTAD

Hitch adapter fit like a charm! I would like to mention that the box it was shipped in was damaged. It caused the paint to be scrapped at one end and it caused a hole in the box.

- HTAD
by:

Fit my new Prius hitch perfectly. Only concern in using one of these adapters is to not overload. I'm pretty confident the whole setup will work fine for the hitch mounted bike rack we already have. No worries.

Comments
Just be aware that using this adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. The tongue weight on a Class I hitch used on your Prius is 200 lbs, so using the adapter will lower that to 100 lbs. This will mean that the weight of the bike rack and the bikes carried upon it cannot exceed 100 lbs.

I purchased this along with a 1.25" hitch for my Prius so that I could use my hitched mount bike rack. Bridget at etrailer.com was very helpful by making sure that I got that right adapter and getting it to me quickly. I ordered this on a Thursday and got it on the next Monday, free shipping! We just traveled from Ohio to St Augustine Florida with our 2 bikes trouble free.

It cuts your trailer tongue weight in half. Fun fact they bury. Its fine. Nearly impossible to get snug. I haven't had any luck finding one that works well.

- HTAD
by:

I used it to adapt a bike rack. Heavy built!

- HTAD
by:

I can't believe how much this thing wobbles inside of my hitch, and how much my accessory wobbles inside of it. Two wobbles don't cancel it and I get wobble-wobble. I have yet to use my accessory because that just won't work out. I'm trying to use the Rhino T-Loader so that I can load a kayak on my roof. Paint also chipped off so easily from playing around with installation; I didn't even USE the accessory yet. For the cost of this chunk of metal, I'd have hoped for better fitment. Most anti-rattle devices only work for securing the accessory-to-hitch end. I'm not quite sure if I can stabilize both ends...

- HTAD
by:

This product is very well built. It's also very heavy. However I bought it thinking I would use this so I could continue to use my 2" bike rack that I would routinely use behind my SUV. It will work but in the end the rack sticks out way too far and I did not get a comfortable feeling about the stress I would place on a class 2 hitch (1.25"). The product itself is great but if your intent is to use it on a bike rack my suggestion is to think it through. If your carrying a good deal of weight centered too far off the back of the car then you might loose stability.

- HTAD
by:

Great product at a great price. Installation was easy and took less than an hour even including the time to jack up the car and set jack stands to get room to work. Note that you do not HAVE to remove and cut the heat shield if you don't want to; however, the hitch can rub against the shield when it is loaded (with a bike rack in my case) and make a minor squeaking noise. Don't forget to get a stabilizer/anti-wobble/tightener if you're using a bike rack or similar carrier. Depending on your hitch, rack, or adapter there can be a lot of play in it when hitting bumps in the road causing the bike and rack to move around a lot.

Ask the Experts about this Brophy Hitch Adapters

  • Can a 1-1/4 - 2 Adapter be Used to Safely Haul a Cargo Carrier with a 2015 Toyota Corolla
The concept of a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD is a good idea in theory but the problem with using one of those with a 1-1/4" hitch, like part # C11265 or # 24913 for your 2015 Toyota Corolla, is that it will reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. Since those trailer hitches have a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs this means that the tongue weight will be reduced to 100 lbs. If you were to use all of this for the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 you would only...

Yes, you can use a hitch adapter like this one from Brophy # HTAD which fits into a 1-1/4" hitch receiver and has a 2" receiver on the other end. If you want an adapter with a rise, there's also # HT5R which gives you a lift of 5 inches. The main issue with hitch adapters though is that they reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50%. That means if your hitch used to have a 250lb weight capacity, whenever you use the hitch adapter you now have 125 lbs to work with. Just keep that in...
