Product was exactly what I needed and to tell the truth, was quite a bit more heavy duty that I had envisioned. I am very enthusiastic and extremely satisfied with the operation of the company and the product. 67056

I am very pleased with my service from etrailer. After I ordered, I got a call from an etrailer rep who advised me that the two parts I ordered would not work together, and she had a ready (and cheaper!) suggestion of an alternative part that made the whole order workable. My order came very fast, even though I didn't use the fastest shipping method. 751409

This hitch adapter is just what the doctor ordered!! It met my needs in making it possible to "adapt" a rear cargo carrier to our 2007 Ford Explorer. This gives us extra capacity to transport wedding-related items from our home in Columbus, OH to Battle Creek, MI without having to rent a trailer or use two vehicles. Not only that, etrailer.com "performed a miracle" in getting this delivered in 2 days at no extra cost!! GREAT JOB in supplying what we needed, when we needed it, at a price we could afford. 119859

This product is very well built. It's also very heavy. However I bought it thinking I would use this so I could continue to use my 2" bike rack that I would routinely use behind my SUV. It will work but in the end the rack sticks out way too far and I did not get a comfortable feeling about the stress I would place on a class 2 hitch (1.25"). The product itself is great but if your intent is to use it on a bike rack my suggestion is to think it through. If your carrying a good deal of weight centered too far off the back of the car then you might loose stability. 176468

After one year this product continues to work and function as advertised. I use it for lite duty. It provides a platform to which I mount my bike rack via a lite weight trailer hitch. The fit and finish has held up well. Good product, does whats expected.

I purchased this along with a 1.25" hitch for my Prius so that I could use my hitched mount bike rack. Bridget at etrailer.com was very helpful by making sure that I got that right adapter and getting it to me quickly. I ordered this on a Thursday and got it on the next Monday, free shipping! We just traveled from Ohio to St Augustine Florida with our 2 bikes trouble free. 122094

I needed this product to adapt a standard Honda 1 1/4 inch hitch to a bike rack with a two inch mounting bar. Ordinarily, the hitch bar might have fit the standard Honda mount, but there was a blocking reinforcement bar under the Honda mount. This mount enables me to conform both the existing and bike rack mounts. Note: I carefully measured hole distances from ends of each mount to be sure it fit, which it does. I have no time to test the mount with the full rack load right now, but it seems to be within specified tolerances. 84470

The manufacturer does not include a pin and clip with this product. This allows you to use whichever style pin and clip you would like. A standard pin and clip like part # F-4

is an option, but you could also use a locking hitch pin like part # e98879

to make sure nobody takes your hitch adapter.

Ask the Experts about this Brophy Hitch Adapters

  • Hitch Adapter to Use Reese Explore 4-Bike Rack with 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch
We do sell hitch adapters like what you're asking about and for your application I recommend using the Brophy # HTAD with the Reese Explore 4 Bike Rack # 63124. With that being said there are a few things to note. First of all the weight rating of your trailer hitch will be cut in half when using the adapter because you are placing the bike rack further away so there is more torque. The second thing to note is that if your 1-1/4" trailer hitch is a Class I then you'll only be able to...

  • Can a 1-1/4 - 2 Adapter be Used to Safely Haul a Cargo Carrier with a 2015 Toyota Corolla
The concept of a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD is a good idea in theory but the problem with using one of those with a 1-1/4" hitch, like part # C11265 or # 24913 for your 2015 Toyota Corolla, is that it will reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. Since those trailer hitches have a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs this means that the tongue weight will be reduced to 100 lbs. If you were to use all of this for the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 you would only...

  • Can an Adapter be Used to Carry a 2 Bike Rack in 1-1/4 Receiver on a Mazda CX-5
I do have a solution for you to carry both of your bikes with your Mazda CX-5 but unfortunately an adapter like part # HTAD isn't the way that I recommend going. Not only does it cut the weight rating of your trailer hitch in half, it will also cause your bike rack to have more movement during travel. Since we don't carry Allen bike racks we don't have an adapter so instead I recommend changing out your bike rack for something like the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 which fits a 1-1/4" receiver...

  • Adapter For Converting 2 inch Hitch Bike Rack to 1-1/4 inch
Sounds like what you are looking for is a 2 inch to 1-1/4 inch hitch adapter like the Brophy part # HTAD based on what you mentioned although the dimensions mentioned may not match perfectly. This will fit the 1-1/4 inch hitch you have on your vehicle and give you a 2 inch opening for your bike rack to attach to. These two hitch sizes are the common ones vehicle have nowadays. Keep in mind that adapters like this cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent.

Yes the 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter part # HTAD that you referenced does fit the Class II hitch you have installed on your 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon. You should note that using this adapter does cut the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent though. A better option would be a bike rack that fits both hitch sizes like the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z.

This premium hitch cover has a polished stainless steel base so you won't have to worry about rust or corrosion. To secure the hitch cover to your hitch, I recommend using a pin and clip # C21410 or a hitch lock like # 63147 which will not only prevent theft but also act as an anti-rattle device.

The issue with hitch adapters is that they cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent and add quite a bit of movement. They really aren't an ideal solution but the part # HTAD will work in a Class I hitch like the # 24949. You should note too that the weight of this adapter is 7 bls. So if you add up the weight of your bikes and the rack plus the adapter you are at 101 lbs which would be 1 lb over the reduced capacity of the hitch at 100 lbs. Your best solution...

The trouble is that using any hitch adapter changes the overall geometry of the system, and this results in loss of 50-percent of the hitch's rated capacity. The capacity is lost because the accessory item will now be further away from the hitch (due to the adapter) and this causes extra stresses on the hitch tube that lower its rated capacity. So,...

Pins of 5/8-inch are employed for 2-inch and larger hitch receivers.
