Product works great.. Took awhile to clean out reciever holes in car, but the hitch and wiring were perfect for my Toyota Matrix 2007.

Great product delivered quickly with excellent service. I can't say I buy too many trailer hitches, but if i did, I would shop here again.

eTrailer reviewEverything about my transaction was perfect. The product was about as low as I could find anywhere, the product shipped the same day I ordered it, it arrived promptly, and it fit my car like it came from the factory.

eTrailer is the model that other online companies should strive to match and they do it via communicating. When you place an order - you get an email, when the product ships - you get an e-mail, when the product is delivered - you get an e-mail. I wouldn't hesitate to use eTrailer again if the need arises.

Great hitch! I chose this one over the others due to it being a little more hidden under the car. Hitch was extremely easy to install. 4 bolts with washers. I would say it took all of five minutes once I backed the car onto a set of ramps.

by:

fast delivery, very easy to install and would of got it on in less than 15 minutes if the weldnuts weren't so full of debries. it took me almost a hour to clean and retap the weldnuts and move the muffler just enough to tap it. after those were done, it took about 15mins to install the hitch.

2007 Toyota Matrix

Excellent product. Quick shipping and good technical support from Curt. I installed on my 2007 Toyota Matrix in about 2 hours because:

ONE THING TO WATCH OUT FOR: Rust on the inside of weld nuts inside car's frame. It must be cleaned out thoroughly or you will strip threads on bolts. It took me good 1.5 hours to clean out all 4 weld nuts. By the way, the bolts included with kit were of the right size.

Easy Install if not for undercoatingTarget car was 2009 Toyota Matrix S. Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" - 12221
Hitch Receiver fit perfectly with no interference with muffler or body. Car had been dealer undercoated so existing screw thread were clogged but I cleaned the threads with a dental pick and put some axle grease on each bolt and managed to get them in. Without the undercoating I would have been done in 10 minutes with installing this part.

Initially had trouble getting bolts to fit into the nuts of my car. After 6 years of road use in Indiana the threads were pretty corroded. Took it it my service shop who cleaned the threads with a tap and it installed easily after that. Thank goodness for the installation videos on line, especially for the wiring harness. written instructions were very poor. Video was great.

Received my hitch with no delay, products that I had bought were as stated.. I found out about you guys from watching youtube, even how to install my hitch and how to wire my car for it. Install of both went well. Thanks to everyone involved with my purchase and to the ones that put the vidios on youtube.

So far so good. Bought this hitch for a 2005 Toyota Matrix. After I tapped the frame bolt holes out, tons of road grime, this hitch mounted right up. Uaing it for a hitch mounted 2 bike carrier and it's done great so far. Just drove 800 miles with the bikes on the back and no problems.

On 06/14/2012 I posted my comment about the wonderful product I purchased from www.etrailer.com. I stated I would add pictures later… It is now later.
My pictures will show how I had to move things before I purchased my Hitch from www.etrailer.com and modified a store bought trailer.
The third picture shows the trailer attached to my www.etrailer.com hitch after the assembly of the trailer…
The forth picture shows the trailer attached to my www.etrailer.com hitch after doing the trailer wiring and checked out the lights… (All went well)
The fifth picture shows my www.etrailer.com hitch and trailed now at home in Florida… 1,100 miles from Delaware to my home in Florida…. 18 ½ hours on the road… (All went well)
I love how easy my www.etrailer.com hitch and wiring went together… Thank you again www.etrailer.com

I received the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver. I had to grind 1/8" off corner of the hitch, to add clearance for muffler on my 2012 Toyota Matix AWD. After modification and cleaning out 4 pre tapped holes in frame, I installed hitch within a hour.

Perfect fit! Installed it in less than 5 minutes.

2010 Toyota Matrix

Fits perfectly on our 2005 Toyota Matrix (base model) - only problem was getting the weld nuts cleaned out, but after 10 years of Midwestern winters I'm not surprised that they were extremely crud-filled. I used a wire brush from a shotgun cleaning kit and lots of WD-40 to clean them out.

  • 2008 Toyota Matrix Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation
Only the larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs will have the higher capacity 2 inch hitch available. The 2008 Toyota Matrix is a lighter duty vehicle so it only has 1-1/4 inch hitches available for it like the # 24812 which is a custom fit. You'd need to also go with a bike rack designed for this hitch size. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most...

  • Can a 2009 Pontiac Vibe Safely Tow a 1,500 Pound Boat Trailer
Since you would be right at capacity I do recommend taking any measures feasible in lightening the load. That will make it that much easier on the vehicle. I do believe that properly equipped, the 2009 Pontiac Vibe will be fine towing the 1,500 pounds. Since you will not constantly be towing it up a steep ramp, and that aspect is only a small part of the journey, the Vibe should be just fine. For a trailer hitch, you can use # C12221 but it is for GT models. If you have a GT model then...

  • Availability of a 2 Trailer Hitch for a 2004 Toyota Matrix to Carry a Bike Rack
You are definitely on the right track when it comes to not wanting to use an adapter for your bike rack. The only trailer hitches that are a confirmed fit for your 2004 Toyota Matrix have 1-1/4" receivers but if you let me know what bike rack you have I can check to see if there is an adapter that was made specifically for your bike rack (provided that we carry your bike rack). For your application I recommend installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12221. This trailer hitch requires...

  • What Parts Are Needed To Tow A Trailer With A 2010 Toyota Matrix
If you plan on towing a trailer then wiring and a ball mount would be necessary as well. For the wiring you'll need the Tekonsha T-One Wire Harness # 118460. For the ball mount you'll need to know the ball size for the coupler (1-7/8, 2", 2-5/16") and how much of a rise or drop is needed. I've attached a link below to a help article that will walk you through the measuring process for the correct rise or drop. I also recommend picking up a hitch pin and coupler lock like the Curt # C66DR...

  • Differences Between the Curt Hitches for the 2009 Toyota Matrix

  • Solution for Trailer Hitch Bolts that Seem to Big to Thread In
We get this question pretty often and while it may seem like the threads are too small the real fix is to use a thread tap with the M12 size and they'll thread in. This happens frequently on vehicles that have a few winters on them.

  • Comparing Trailer Hitches # 12221 and # C12013 for a 2007 Toyota Matrix
I went out to the warehouse and examined the Curt Hitch # 12221 and # C12013. While they are similar, there is a key difference in the designs. From the top of the mounting brackets on each side of the hitch down to the bottom of the receiver, hitch # C12013, hangs lower. This makes sense because it is designed to fit all models including XR and XRS of the 2003 to 2008 Toyota Matrix. Some models have a rear fascia that hangs lower so a hitch that hangs lower is needed. Since you have...

All available hitches made for your 2007 Toyota Matrix XR include both Class I and Class II types in the 1-1/4-inch size. All are shown on the linked page. You'll notice all three options, parts # 24812, # C12221 and # C12013, share a very similar overall design; this is due to all of them using the same mounting points on the car's frame. This means that there will not be much if any difference between the installations. Ground clearance will not be markedly better or worse with any hitch. If...

  • Difference Between Trailer Hitches for 2004 Pontiac Vibe and Pontiac Vibe GT
The only difference is that Curt has one trailer hitch that fits a 2004 Pontiac Vibe GT, part # C12221 and one trailer hitch for a 2004 Pontiac Vibe NON-GT, part # C12234 while the Draw-Tite # 24812 will fit both models. The Draw-Tite hitch is a Class I hitch which requires the use of Class I accessories so my recommendation is to go with the option from Curt, with the right hitch depending on if you have a GT or not. Both the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12221 (GT models) and # C12234 (non-GT...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2005 Toyota Matrix
Curt trailer hitch # C12221 would be a good option as long as your 2005 Toyota Matrix is not an XR or XRS model. If it is an XR or XRS model then # C12013 would be the best option for a Curt hitch. These are both Class II hitches which means you have to use the ball mount recommended by the hitch manufacture so as not to void the hitch warranty. This will limit the amount of rise you can get to be able to tow the trailer level. Based on the picture you have sent you will need a good amount...

  • Why is Draw-Tite Hitch a Class I and Curt Hitch is a Class II for a 2006 Pontiac Vibe
Hitch manufacturers determine the Class rating for a given hitch. The amount of hardware used to install a hitch isn't a factor. With that said Curt decided that hitch # C12234 will be fine to use with Class II accessories and gave it a Class II rating. Their hitch for the 2006 Pontiac Vibe GT models, # C12221, is also a Class II but it has been tested and rated for a higher tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity 250/2500 pounds. • Recommended 4-Bike Rack for 2004 Toyota Matrix
In order to transport 4 bikes with your 2004 Toyota Matrix, I recommend going with a trailer hitch-mounted bike rack like the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR. This is a great, sturdy rack that can hold up to 4 bikes at 35 pounds each. It features a tilting mast that allows for easy rear cargo access on your Matrix and the HoldFast cradles and anti-sway arms will hold the bike frames at 3 points to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact. The Class-II hitch will have a higher rating than Class-I. But keep in mind the maximum towing weight capacity of your 2009 Toyota Matrix is 1,500 pounds per the Toyota Matrix owners manual.
