Comparing Trailer Hitches # 12221 and # C12013 for a 2007 Toyota Matrix
Question:
What is the actual difference between the Curt #12221 and the #12013? Installation would be for a base 2007 Toyota Matrix. Thanks

I went out to the warehouse and examined the Curt Hitch # 12221 and # C12013. While they are similar, there is a key difference in the designs. From the top of the mounting brackets on each side of the hitch down to the bottom of the receiver, hitch # C12013, hangs lower.
This makes sense because it is designed to fit all models including XR and XRS of the 2003 to 2008 Toyota Matrix. Some models have a rear fascia that hangs lower so a hitch that hangs lower is needed.
Since you have a base model 2007 Toyota Matrix, you could use either hitch, but I would go with # 12221 because it will offer a little more ground clearance. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.
