Question:
I am looking at putting a tow bar base plate on my 1998 Jeep Wrangler / TJ. I have a Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All-terrain tow bar. I am looking at a couple of different options but I am trying to figure out what the difference is between the Roadmaster EZ4 and EZ5 is. Is it just the mounting? Can I go directly to the tow bar or is there another piece? Thanks,

The base plates you can install on your Jeep depend on the bumper style you have. If you have a U-channel bumper the base plates that will work are part # 1417-1. If you have an off-road bumper with the 1-inch D-Ring bumper mounts then the base plates for your Jeep are part # RM-035-1, and if you have the off-road bumper with 3/4-inch D-ring bumper mounts the base plates you can use are part # RM-035. If you have a double tube bumper I recommend the part # RM-521424-5 EZ5 base plates. For the EZ4 base plates you can use part # RM-521424-4.
The difference is the attachment style the removable arms of the kit have. The EZ4 kit requires you to use the crossbar that comes with the tow bar you use and the EZ5 does not. I recommend going with the EZ5 that is easier to use.
You need 5 items to flat tow a vehicle. The base plates are listed above and you said you already have the tow bar. I will make recommendations for the rest of the parts in case you do not already have them.
For safety cables I recommend part # RM-643.
For tow bar wiring I recommend part # RM-15267 for the 7-wire to 6-wire kit and part # RM-15247 for the 7-wire to 4-wire wiring kit.
For the supplemental brake system I recommend part # RM-9400.
Chances are you may need an adapter for your hitch that helps keep the tow bar as level as possible. I have attached a helpful article that explains high-low adapters. I also attached a link to the adapters we offer you can check out.
