The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit uses computer-cut, all-steel construction to give exceptional strength and precise alignment. The design bolts directly to the vehicle’s frame and spreads towing forces evenly, so there’s no welding required. Once the removable drawbars are out, the remaining brackets sit tucked back behind the grille for a barely-there look. There’s no bulky crossbar hanging off the front—just a clean, factory-style finish with nothing to scrape or bump into when walking around the vehicle. The arms install or remove in seconds, leaving only low-profile mounts that stay protected from road debris.
Hooking up is fast and straightforward—slide each arm into the bracket, twist to lock it in place, and you’re ready to roll. Built-in pull rings let you unlock and remove the arms just as easily when you’re done towing. The direct-connect design eliminates the need for a quick-disconnect crossbar, making setup simpler when working alone or in tight spaces.
This base plate kit pairs directly with Roadmaster motor-home-mounted tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch such as the Nighthawk, Sterling, Blackhawk, Blackhawk 2, Falcon, or Falcon 2. Installed on a 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Had to drill a couple of holes. Get high quality bits, drill pilot holes first and it is not a problem. Has performed solid with no issues. The twist in locks make it quick and easy to connect when hooking up toad.
Installation was straight forward the instructions were clear. I had to use an angled drill to drill the holes as a standard drill was too large for the tight spaces at the frame.
At first I was a little nervous about undertaking this project, but after I started I realized it wasn’t as complicated as I thought. It is important to completely read the instruction and follow them. One thing I eventually did was remove the bumper and the plastic cowling with the word JEEP stamped on it. For me anyway, this made the installation much easier. I didn’t realize it at first, but a screw that held the cowling in place was actually interfering with lining up the base plate and as soon as I removed the cowling the base plate just about fell into it’s proper place. It’s really not a difficult job and doesn’t require a lot of tools, however, be sure to know which tools you will need and make sure you have them on hand. Ordering the Base Plate for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ was easy and quick, the staff I spoke with were knowledgeable and helpful. And, the Base Plate was delivered in just a few days.

Installed this base plate myself on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. Easy project for a novice. We towed the jeep about 6,000 miles without issue. Using this base plate also required a drop hitch receiver on our Winnebago View for the tow bar to be level.
The quick connect pins on this base plate were easy to use and made hooking up and unhooking a breeze. The base plate was easy to install on our 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Worked great with the tow bar we chose.

I was amazed at how easy it was to install on my 15 year old Wrangler-the mounting instructions were very clear and it fit perfectly! Also impressed with the fast free shipping!
thought the over all designee and quality of the base plate is great, your shipping of the part was not to the standard I was expecting and resulted in one of the safety tabs getting bent a bit see photos. not a major problem but not what I expected from etrailer
Great fitment. Great instructions. This was my first install of this type and it really was straight forward.
I ordered this Roadmaster tow plate to flat tow my Jeep Wrangler behind my motorhome. Katherine B at etrailer was very helpful in assuring the tow plate was the part I needed. The tow plate arrived in a few days and I installed it myself. It was an easy installation. The tow plate is sturdy and well built and fits nicely under the front bumper. Thank you etrailer and especially Katherine B. Now I have to decide on the type of braking system for my towed Jeep.

the based plates work great with the tow bar. EAsy to remove and put on. Love them!
