Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball

Today we're going to take a look at the CURT two and five sixteenths diameter long shank chrome hitch ball with a 15,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball provide a connection point for your trailer's coupler. Does use find threads to provide a nice tight, strong grip. It's a treated steel which is very durable, has a nice corrosion-resistant chrome finish to it. If you notice these flat edges right here, these are built-in wrench flats that make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening the nut. Now, the lock washer and the nut is all included for installation.

Again, the ball diameter on this is two and five sixteenths of an inch. The weight capacity, which is stamped on the top of the ball, is 15,000 pounds.Just to give you a few dimension on this, we're going to measure the shank diameter, which is going to be right at one and a quarter inch diameter, and the length of it from the bottom to the end is right at two and five eighths inches long. It is designed to fit ball platforms from three quarter inch to one inch thick. But again, you'll just drop this through the hole in the ball mount, put your washer on, put your nut on, and then just tighten it down and torque it to the factory specs. But that should do it for the review on the CURT two and five sixteenths inch long shank chrome hitch ball with a 15,000 pound weight capacity..

  • Fastway e2 Weight Distribution for 2025 Ford F-150 Towing Enclosed Trailer
Hello again Frank; tongue weight is typically 10-15% of your trailer weight. At 5,400 lbs you could go over the max 800 lb tongue weight of the # FA94-00-0800 but that probably isn't the case here. If you really want to be sure you could always pick up a small scale like the # BTBRV004 or # BTBRV99FR. Assuming you're in that 400-800 lb range this will remove that little bit of sag (sounds like it isn't a concern but it still helps) and cut down on your trailer sway. Regarding the shank,...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 1,175 lb Dry Tongue Weight Trailer
With your tongue weight at 1,175 lbs when loaded, you also need to account for any cargo weight behind the rear axle as well to get the total tongue weight rating. I've attached an article to assist. You are correct that your current system is underrated for your application. My recommendation is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET rated for total tongue weights between 1,000 and 1,400 lbs. You want your total tongue weight to fall in the...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2014 Airstream International
In order to choose the correct weight distribution system for your 2014 Airstream International and your 2016 Ford F-250 we will need to find your total tongue weight (TTW). Total tongue weight is calculated by adding the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer to any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. As long as your total tongue weight does not exceed 1,000 lbs then I recommend using the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control part # BXW1006....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System and Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Tug Boat Trailer
I did some research and your F-150 with the combination you have is the 11,600 lbs if you have the max towing package. If you do not it drops to 10,600 lbs. The upgrades you have done to your truck are really nice so I can see why you don't want to change vehicles. What I recommend is keeping your current hitch, upgrading your weight distribution system to the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # RP66561 because it will work well...

  • Recommended Sway Control for a 2019 Ram 1500 w/ Air Ride Pulling a Pop-Up Trailer
Hey Chip! If you're dealing with that much sway, I would recommend a weight distribution system not one of the SumoSpring systems. I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control item # FA92-00-0450. This system is built for smaller trailers like yours and works with tongue weights up to 450 lbs. With the weight of your trailer and gear combined this would definitely get that sway under control. Since you already have factory air ride and it's not helping your sway...

  • Weight Distribution System For A 8,000 Pound Boat And Trailer
Hi Joe! A weight distribution hitch will definitely help the towing experience with your set up. Anything being towed that is over about half the weight of the vehicle will greatly benefit from using a weight distribution. With your boat/trailer weighing 8,000 pounds, I highly recommend grabbing one. So let's get into which one you should go with. I like the Fastway e2 systems as they are very effective and will likely last forever. For your weight, I recommend going with the Fastway...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 3,500 lbs Trailer
Tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's total weight so two 3,500 lbs trailers would have a tongue weight range of 350 lbs to 525 lbs. With this in mind, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion item # FA92-00-0600. The Fastway item # FA92-00-0600 has built in sway control that will keep your trailer in line with your van when you are going down the highway and get passed by a semi or make a sudden move. It works with trailers...

  • How to Determine the Correct Weight Distribution System
I'll start with your last question concerning the trailer brakes - they will not stop your truck. As for a weight distribution system it is important that you have the correctly rated system; I don't what you have but I can tell you how to figure out what you SHOULD have. In order to choose the right weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo...

Your 2021 Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E15TB has a GVWR of nearly 3,900 lbs, so a good estimate for your loaded tongue weight is going to be in the 450 lb - 500 lb range. For that tongue weight, what you will need for a weight distribution hitch that will give you the rise you need is one from Blue Ox: - Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank # BLU36FR The TrackPro # BLU36FR has a maximum rise of 8 inch, and is for loaded tongue weights between 200 lbs and...

Hey Rodney, appreciate the photo, it was really helpful, and we have exactly what you need here, which is the Chain Hangers # RP58305. Weight distribution hitches that use brackets aren't going to work due to the placement of your propane tank, which is why the hangers are needed. These will bolt onto your trailer frame so the brackets for your propane tank won't interfere. Your Lance 1685 tops out at 5,400 lbs so this should put your tongue weight around 540 lbs - 810 lbs depending on how you load up your trailer. I have two options for you; a system without sway control in the Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17050 and a system with sway control in the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System part # HT32216. These systems are both rated correctly for your 4,000 lbs trailer. I recommend the system with sway control as you will have stability during strong crosswinds or when large trucks pass by.
