Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/15/2025

Question:

Looking for an opinion on my travel trailer/vehicle choice and if I risk overloading. 2019 Traverse High Country with tow pkg. Surveyor Legend 19RBLE 3900 UVW, 450 hitch weight. Would use The FA92-00-0600. Will carry two bicycles. Retired couple use only. Thanks

Hey Dave, I would be more than happy to share my opinion on your set up and offer a couple recommendations.

I looked up your 2019 Chevrolet Traverse High Country and it's got a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. This would be a great tow vehicle for the travel trailer you're looking at or already own. The tow package doesn't include a brake controller or a 7-Way in some cases. Both of which you will definitely need to haul a trailer with brakes.

For a 7-way connector, you'll want the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56393. The connector is custom fit and plugs into a factory port above the muffler on the driver’s side. You can use the No-Drill Mount Bracket item # 18136 with item # 18138 to attach the 7-way to your hitch without having to drill.

Even though your Traverse has the tow package, GM did not include a plug in port for a brake controller. The easiest way to add a brake controller is with the Curt Echo item # C51180. The Echo plugs directly into your Traverse's 7-Way connector and allows you to control the settings through an app on your phone. The Echo is also a proportional brake controller that slows or stops your trailer when you decelerate. It uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone so you will never have to worry about losing signal. If your phone dies it automatically uses the default settings you program in.

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution item # FA92-00-0600 would work well with your Surveyor Legend travel trailer. It has a tongue/hitch weight range of 250 lbs - 600 lbs, which will put you right in the middle of that. This will address any sagging issues you may encounter when your trailer's loaded up. Your Traverse does have the Stabilitrak Electronic Stability Control system, which you will want to engage. It is compatible with the item # FA92-00-0600.

This system does not include a hitch ball. Depending on your coupler size you will either need a 2" Hitch Ball item # A-90 or a 2-5/16" hitch ball item # C40030.

I looked up your 2025 Surveyor Legend 19RBLE. From the information I found on the website it looks like your trailer comes equipped with a 2" hitch. You will need a specially rated bike rack for a travel trailer, due to the extra stresses put being mounted at the end of a trailer. The best one is going to be the Swagman Escapee RV Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes item # S39SR. This bike rack has a 60 lbs capacity per bike and works with tires up to 5" wide. It also includes bike and rack locks so you don't have to worry about it walking away while you're traveling.

I have linked a few installation and review videos below so you can see the functions of these parts demonstrated and how to get them set up. Feel free to email me directly or comment below if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Hey Dave, how did everything go with your Traverse and the Surveyor Legend setup? I'm curious if the Curt Echo brake controller and the Fastway e2 weight distribution hitch worked well together on your trips. Your feedback could help others planning a similar towing setup.
