Dependable Safety Cables for flat towing and trailers
Dial in the setup you trust by matching the cable rating to your load, like 10,000 lbs or 15,000 lbs. Coiled options help keep slack off the ground, while S-hooks or clevis hooks each make attachment a little different—be sure the hook size fits your hitch, base plate, or D-rings. Some systems route cables through tow bar channels and certain cable kits only work with crossbar-style base plates.
Coiled cables help reduce dragging and the coating helps prevent scratches on the tow bar. Some tow bars have channels that let you route cables to keep excess off the road. If a coiled cable does drag it can be ruined, where a chain might only chafe. Choose a length that stays off the pavement and double-check routing before you roll.
No spring-loaded retractable cables are offered, but coiled safety cables are available. For marine use, options with zinc-coated S-hooks are offered at 5000 lbs and 36" long. Confirm the capacity meets your boat and trailer requirements, and verify length so the cables don't drag when turning or launching.
Match the cable rating to your setup and make sure the hook and keeper fully close on your hitch point. If a thicker hitch plate blocks the spring-loaded keeper, pick cables with a larger hook that still meet your needed rating. Test-fit the hook opening and keeper closure before towing. If there's any doubt on rating, confirm the manufacturer's stated capacity for that exact cable.
Measure with your rig set up, especially after changes like a swing-away coupler—you may need longer cables, while some setups benefit from shorter. S-hooks can be easier to clip in tight spaces than clevis hooks. Check shackle size; smaller hooks may require a 1/2" D-ring instead of 3/4". Use 1/2 inch, Grade 8 hardware to attach to your trailer.
They fit base plates that use a crossbar, not direct-connect styles. Check whether your base plate setup includes a crossbar; if it doesn't, pick a cable style that attaches to the appropriate mounting points. Verify the connection style on both your tow bar and base plate before selecting cables.
