Video Transcript for DIY Install: RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables on your 2014 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2014 Ford Focus, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster 76" single hook straight safety cables. Part number RM-645-76. If you ever flat towed a vehicle before, you're gonna know that you gonna wanna have safety cables. They're just that extra bit of security in case anything we're to happen with out towing set up. They're gonna keep our vehicle attached to our motor home. Not only that, but they are required by law.The cables are made out of an aircraft-type galvanized steel construction, so they're gonna be extra durable and strong.

They're also gonna feature a heavy duty drop forged steel hook. It's gonna have a spring loaded clasp to give it extra security and making hooking them up a breeze. The cables are gonna feature a nice vinyl coating around the outside not only to prevent any kind of rust or corrosion on the cable themselves, but it's also gonna prevent any kind of scratched or chipping on our tow bar itself. On the other end where it's gonna attach to our motor home, we're gonna have some quick links. They're also made of steel. Trying to easily thread on.

We're gonna have that security, but also be able to take them off fairly easily. Our cables are gonna be 76" long. They come in a pair and they're gonna have a total weight capacity of 8000 pounds per pair.We already have our Focus hooked up and we have one our safety cables hooked up, so let's go ahead and put the second one on together. To start out, you're gonna notice that we're gonna have two different ends. We're gonna have one that's gonna have a hook on it, the spring loaded clasp, and one that's just gonna have the braided cable on it.

The end with the braided cable, we're gonna take the quick disconnect link and we're gonna slide it over the end of it.Then, we can move to our hitch and find the safety chain connection points. We're gonna find our safety chain connection point and we're gonna slide the quick link over and secure it in place. Now it's important to criss-cross the cables. We just connected it to the passenger side of our motor home, so we're gonna underneath out tow bar and come over to the driver side and cross over the top of our tow bar to take up some of the slack, and then we're gonna find the hook and find our safety cable attachment point on our baseplate. We're just gonna snap it into place. Now, if you're worried about the slack, it will have a little bit of slack taken up because our tow bar isn't in the fully extended position, but you just wanna go ahead and wrap it around your tow bar.

Just make sure that that final loop goes underneath the tow bar, the center section here where it pivots, and make sure that you do cross the cables. With our safety cables hooked up and everything else hooked up as well, we're ready to hit the road. That'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster 76" single hook straight safety cables. Part number RM-645-76 on our 2014 Ford Focus.

Much better than chains.

Tow cables are as described fitting my toe bar. I prefer the straight cables versus the coiled ones thus am quite happy with your product

Safety cables are working as I hoped. I tow several times a year amounting to several thousand miles. Although they are dirty they are simple to install & don’t bind or crimp like others I’ve used. Thank you again for a superior product

by:

Good quality cables and hardware. Very happy with this. Using for a 2014 Fleetwood Discovery 40G towing a 2018 GMC Yukon Denali w/ Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 and no towbar extension. These are probably a little longer than needed with this setup, but I figured a little long is better than a little short.

by:

As advertised! I bought this set to replace the set that was damaged after I installed a receiver drop hitch and pulled out of a shallow driveway after fueling. They were the perfect replacement for my Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain tow bar. I used Velcro straps to allow the safety cables to move with the towbar, but not drop below the bar and be damaged.

by:

Received my safety cables. I was wondering about the delivery date so I emailed etrailer and they got right back to me with delivery specifics. Arrived as promised by Derick. Excellent customer service and the product is just as advertised.

by:

Good as expected. Originally had 64" but had to get 76" due to using a drop hitch with the Roadmaster tow bar.

by:

Quality product. Service and shipping was excellent. I'd ordered a different set of safety cables that turned out to be too short. I contacted etrailer and the folks there were excellent about coordinating a return and ordering a different product better suited to my setup.

by:

Always great help! Fast shipping and great service. Tech team is always happy to help!
Good job to all!!!

by:

Exactly what I ordered. Tow bar safety cables will fulfill my needs to safely tow my jeep behind my motorhome.

by:

Perfect length for my Jeep and Roadmaster tow bar setup.

by:

These are well made and although I haven’t load tested them they appear to be quite capable to do the job if needed.

by:

Needed extra length after attaching a drop hitch.

by:

Great products. Great teachers to explain the product after installation. All the qualities you want in a company you can trust.

by:

Nice cover and easy to use, have to use a wrench on the links though can't use your fingers.

The Roadmaster Sterling tow bar Item # RM-576 is compatible with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Item # RM-524431-5 however, the safety cables are not. The current safety cables would need to be removed and you would not use the quick disconnect bar. Each arm will pin directly to the removable tabs on the baseplate. The weight capacity listed for cables is for the pair. For example the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 7,500lbs # BX88196 you referenced would have a 3,750lb capacity per cable. Since Roadmaster doesn't have a 7,500lb cable I'm assuming you're referencing the RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645-76. I've drawn up some dimensions for these two cables as well as the Demco Coiled Safety Cables # DM9523003 you referenced below.
