Updated 08/11/2026 | Published 08/06/2026

Question:

Good Morning, I have two old Dexter Axles that I’m trying to service. The label says they are P-15 Model SLR. The serial numbers are D2665978 and D2665979. Can you tell me the original axle capacity, hub/drum assembly, bearings, seals, and brake assembly for this model so I know what parts to order? Thanks!

I sure can Blake! I just heard back from Dexter and both of your axles are 3,500 lbs capacity. That's all the information they were able to provide. Here are the replacement parts you've requested:

Hub/Drums

- 5 on 4-1/2 Lug Nut Pattern item # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K

- 5 on 4-3/4 Lug Nut Pattern item # AKHD-5475-35-EZ-K

- 5 on 5 Lug Nut Pattern - item # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K

- 5 on 5-1/2 Lug Nut Pattern - item # AKHD-555-35-EZ-K

- 6 on 5-1/2 Lug Nut Pattern - item # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K

Brake Assemblies

- Manual Adjust - etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes item # AKEBRK-35

- Self Adjusting - etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes item # AKEBRK-35-SA

- Hydraulic - etrailer Hydraulic Trailer Brakes item # AKUBRK-35

Bearing Kit - Lippert Complete Bearing Kit for 3.5K Trailer Axles item # LC55ZP

What kind of trailer do you have, does it use hydraulic or electric brakes, and what lug nut pattern do your hubs have?

It’s a 1998 Sundowner ValueLite. It looks like Sundowner supplied the hubs and brake assembly and Dexter only provided the beam. They are electric brakes. The hub pattern is 6 on 5.5”

@BlakeS Ok, that makes so much more sense as to why the build sheet was so vague. Usually, they have hubs and brakes listed. You'll need the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles item # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K. This hub is sold individually and comes pregreased with the bearings and seals installed. It has a 6 on 5-1/2" lug nut pattern. I recommend replacing your brakes with the Self Adjusting - etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes item # AKEBRK-35-SA. You'll never have to adjust them or tune them in. The minimal upfront cost increase is definitely going to save you time down the road.
