Features to know about

Keep Your Cables Off the Ground: Coiled Design

Ever frustrated by trailer cables dragging and getting damaged? The Curt Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables are designed to eliminate slack, ensuring they stay off the ground. These cables boast a coiled design that stretches as needed, keeping them tidily coiled when not in use. You can effortlessly make tight turns without worrying about your cables scraping the pavement, which not only maintains the cables' integrity but also enhances your towing safety.

Easy Installation and Secure Hookup: S-Hooks with Wire Keepers

The hassle of fiddling with chains is over. These safety cables come equipped with corrosion-resistant S-hooks featuring wire keepers on one end for secure attachment. The wire keepers prevent the S-hooks from accidentally unhooking, offering a robust connection between your tow vehicle and trailer. Whether you're connected to a thick safety chain connection point on a truck like the Ford F-350 or a typical trailer hitch, the S-hooks open wide enough to accommodate various hitch setups easily.

Durability for Peace of Mind: Nylon-Coated Braided Steel

Towing adventures can often expose your equipment to harsh conditions, but these safety cables are built to withstand the elements with a sturdy braided steel construction. Furthermore, the nylon coating prevents abrasions and protects your setup from scratches and corrosion. Rated for a 7,500 lb weight capacity, these cables can handle demanding towing scenarios, making them a reliable choice for both moderate and heavy towing needs.

Perfect Length for Versatility: 42-Inch Overall Length

These cables are 42 inches in length, making them an ideal fit for diverse towing setups. Whether you're replacing shorter 30-inch chains or adapting to different hookup points on varied tow vehicles, the extra length offers flexibility without added hassle. Plus, the coiled design compensates for the extended reach, ensuring the cables do not hang loose or pose a safety hazard.

Effortless Setup and Maintenance: Zinc-Coated Hardware

Thanks to zinc-coated S-hooks, these cables resist rust and maintain their structural integrity across seasons. This translates to minimal maintenance on your part and provides long-lasting performance—especially valuable for trailers exposed to moisture or salty environments, such as those used near saltwater or on snowy roads.

Enhanced Safety in Towing: Backup Connection Assurance

Safety is paramount when towing, and these cables offer a reliable backup should the main hitch connection fail. By maintaining a robust link between the tow vehicle and trailer, these cables help prevent your vehicle and trailer from parting ways, reducing the risk of road incidents. With a year of limited warranty from CURT, you can tow confidently knowing these cables have got your back.

Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Curt Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables with S-Hooks

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt single-hook coiled safety cables with S-hooks. Part number C80176. These safety cables are going to be a great replacement for your old, rusty or broken safety chains. Here you can see on our test drive the safety cables are not dragging or clanging around. They're perfectly tracking our tow vehicle. This will help them remain smooth and quiet.

One of our customers said they don't have to worry about pulling up on the campsite super early and waking everybody up. These are nice and quiet compared to noisy chains. They're a braided steel construction with a nylon coating, so we're not going to have any rust and corrosion. Like safety chains, these safety cables are going to act as a backup should your trailer become uncoupled from your tow vehicle. What's nice about these cables is the coil design is going to prevent any dragging when connected like you would see with most link styled chains. The same goes for when they're not in use.

They're not going to be resting in the mud or the moist grass furthermore causing corrosion. On one end, we have a large S type hook, so it's going to work with most safety chain connections. It even features a gate so it won't accidental become disconnected. On the other end, we have a loop so we can connect it to our trailer. Here you can see on this application, we have a welded on bracket with a bolt going through.

Now, you will have to provide your own hardware. Now, in connecting them to your tow loops on your hitch, it's a good idea to cross them just like you would your standard safety chains. This is going to create a cradle so it catches your coupler should it come disconnected from your tow vehicle. They feature a 7500 pound weight rating. The overall length from hook to hook is 42 inches long. Another great thing about the nylon coating is it's not going to harm or scratch your towing setup, and I personally like that it's not going to tear up my hands.

That's going to complete our look at the Curt single hook coiled safety cables with S-hooks. Part number C80176.

  • Is There A Tow Hook Adapter For A Blue Ox Baseplate On A 2024 Chevy Tahoe Z71
Hey Dan, To my knowledge there currently aren't any tow hook adapters to swap out the arms on the baseplate with, but whichever manufacturer does make one first will definitely have a lot of demand. In the meantime just so you have something to attach to in the event you need to pull the Tahoe out you could mount safety cables # C80176 to the frame and connect your straps to the hooks on the cables. These are 40" in length so you could mount them in a way to where they have a bit of length...

  • Recommended Tow Bar Baseplates for 2013 Jeep Wrangler with Smittybilt Bumper
For flat towing your 2013 Jeep Wrangler with an aftermarket Smittybilt XRC bumper, I recommend the Adapter for Jeep D-Ring Bumper Mounts # RM-035. These attach to the shackle mounts and replace the D-rings on your aftermarket bumper. Since you're flat towing, you will also need a tow bar, safety cables, a braking system, and a tow bar wiring kit. Here are some quick recommendations for each, if you need them: - Tow Bar: # RM-522 - Safety Cables: # C80176 - Braking System: # BLU37TR -...

  • Recommended Base Plates for Flat Towing a 2018 Jeep Rubicon with BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar
In order to use your BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Tow Bar to flat tow your 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, you need a Roadmaster baseplate kit. If you have the JK model, I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # 1444-3. If you have the JL model with the factory steel or plastic bumper, I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521453-5. Since both of these baseplates are made by Roadmaster, they will work really easily with your Roadmaster tow bar, and you won't...

  • Recommended Safety Chains For A 7,000 Pound Tandem Axle Trailer
The rating listed for a single chain, like the Curt # C80031 at 5,000 pounds of capacity, will double when two are used. So the # C80031 used as a pair will mean you would have 10,000 pounds of capacity. With that said, I am not a huge fan of the S-Hook design as it can be a pain to get the rubber retainer band piece over the hooks when it's cold out and they can break as well. If you are wanting something that has good capacity and has clevis hooks, which I prefer, check out the Reese...

  • Can You Use Quick Links With Saftey Cables On A Trailer
Yes, you can use a quick link like # C82932 to attach your Curt Saftey Cables # C80176, however each component must exceed or meet the GVWR of your trailer. So if your trailer is 12,000lbs, you'd need quick links that are also rated for at least 12,000lbs. The quick link mentioned above # C82932 is rated for a maximum of 16,500 pounds, and a working load limit of 3,300 pounds.

  • Are Safety Chains Needed When 7,000 lb Towing Trailer
Safety chains are required by law in many different places, and in order to find out about the specific regulations you will need to contact your local DMV. I will say that no matter what the law may be, safety chains are a very good idea, no matter what speed you are travelling because they ensure your trailer isn't going to become disconnected and cause a potentially serious accident. When considering the cost and ease of use for safety chains relative to what could happen without using...

  • How Long Should My Safety Chains Be?
This is a great question, and it really depends on your setup. If the safety chain loops on your tow vehicle are spaced far apart then you will need more slack to make a tight turn than if they were closer together. I recommend that you connect your trailer to your tow vehicle and back your trailer up into a near jack-knife position. You'll then want to use a rope to go from the safety chain attachment points of your trailer to your tow vehicle and then measure the length of rope that...

  • Will Coiled Safety Cables Catch the Trailer Tongue Like Chains Would
Using cables such as # C80176 in place of chains is no different than using chains. You would still cross the cables under the tongue so that they will catch the tongue should the trailer come off of the ball. The cables are steel underneath the coating and they are quite firm so the tongue weight of the trailer would not be able to overcome the tension of the cables when the trailer is pulled away from the vehicle in an off-the-ball event just like chains.

  • Can I Use Safety Cables Instead of Safety Chains to Tow a 7300 lb Trailer
You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel. I do not recommend using the Curt 7500 lb rated safety cable part # C80176 because that would be cutting it pretty close with the weight of your trailer. I recommend Blue Ox Hook Safety cables part # BX88197 that are rated for 10,000 lbs. The higher up you go in weight rating with safety cables the longer the cables get. The Blue Ox cables...

I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster about the RoadMaster 8" Safety Cable Extensions part # RM-910648-8 and they stated that each cable is rated for 8,000 lbs but that does not means it will give you 16,000 lbs in total as if one were to break, you will still only have a 8,000 lb capacity.
