Switching from Demco Air Force One to Stay-IN-Play Duo

Updated 02/06/2026 | Published 01/09/2026

Question:

I currently have an Air Force One supplemental braking system installed in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport for use with my RV equipped with air brakes. I am changing to a smaller RV with hydraulic brakes. I plan to install the Demco Stay In Play Duo system. Other that the operating unit and the G force controller, can I use the existing components on the Air Force One, the actuator and the break away switch, with the Stay In PLay Duo system? Please advise? Thanks.

Hey James! You can use parts from your existing Demco Air Force One to make the switch. All you need is the Towed Car Conversion Kit - Demco Air Force One to Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99231. This comes with the operating unit, G-Force controller, and hardware needed to turn your system into the # SM99251.

What kind of motorhome are you switching to?

I installed this on my 2019 Honda SI. Two things were a problem (and not with the Demco unit). First was that installing under the dash of my little Honda was an exercise in flexibility due to the extremely tight space in the Honda. The other, issue I had was finding a spot to route the wiring through the firewall. I decided to punch a hole through a rubber gromet used for a large loom of wires. I managed to cut some of these wires by not being careful enough. This extended the install greatly; of course this was all my fault. I say all this hoping that you will be more effective than I in your installation.

This was installed on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. I had a slight advantage with my install - my two boys are mechanics, so I had help. My first step after figuring what brake system was the best one was to go through as many of the installation videos that you can find on etrailer. Difficulties we had were due to the space constraints in the Jeep. But everything installed well and works very well. The only disappointment is the brake indicator led for the windshield. It is way too small to be effective in letting you know if the brakes are engaging. It is located perfectly to the RV camera view but the lights are small.
