Video Transcript for Reese Weight Distribution RP6637 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number RP6637. These are the Reese replacement lift brackets for Reese Weight Distribution Systems. The brackets are going to mount on the trailer tongue and they're going to provide the connection points for the chainS that are connected to the weight distribution spring bars. Those chains are going to connecT right here to this little hook. The lift bar attaches to the handle, right here. That's going to make lowering and raising the spring bars much easier and safer.

That lift handle is included. The replacement unit is designed for use with Reese Weight Distribution Systems. You're also going to get your two safety pins. They through this area right here. That's going to keep the brackets in the raised position. These are made from a steel construction and they're going to have a nice black powder coat finish which is going to make it stand up well against rust and corrosion.

You're going to get two snap up brackets. You're going to get the two pins, your installation bolts will go into this slot back here. You're going to get the left handle. Now these are going to install approximately thirty inches back from the coupler. If we take a measurement of the width, that's going to let us know about how much room along the trailer frame it's going to take up. From edge to edge that looks to be about five and a half inches so it's going to take up about five and a half inches of space along the trailer frame.

If we measure the opening here, you see that measures just a little over two and a half inches. So this will not fit trailer frames that are wider than two and a half inches. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP6637. These are the replacement lift brackets for the Reese Weight Distribution Systems.

  • Looking For Replacement Parts For A Quality S Weight Distribution System
Quality S is not a brand of weight distribution system we carry, so I cannot say if replacements that we have from other brands will fit properly, unfortunately. I was also unable to find any information about this brand. With that said, the best recommendation I can make is to replace the system with a brand that is still being produced and has replacement parts readily and easily available. The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System # RP66560, as an example, can have literally...

  • Determining Old Weight Distribution System Manufacturer and Replacement Part Options
It does look like an old style Reese system. We have seen a few of these and they are similar to the newer version # RP66084. The part pictured has been replaced with the newer dual cam system yet they function in a very similar way. They no longer make that system, so I recommend upgrading to the newer system if you need replacement parts as those parts are no longer available. I've attached an article on weight distribution systems to further assist if you want information on how...

  • Replacement Trailer Bracket for Reese Sway Bars 22210
The Replacement Head for Reese Weight Distribution System - Trunnion Bar # RP58167 is confirmed to go with your sway bars. There are two possible sway bar styles and that will impact the brackets needed. If you have the tapered bars that are straight at the end then you can use the # RP6637 for chain use with Reese Replacement Chain Kit # 55630 but the SC system brackets are no longer available. If you have the bars with the curve like # RP66009 then you will use brackets # RP6637...

  • Difference Between Weight Distribution Chain Lift Brackets # 586392 and # RP21501
Because your trailer is fairly heavy, I would recommend you go with 2 of the # 58392 lift brackets. The 58392 has extra gusseting welded to it for reinforcement, and would be better suited to a heavier trailer like yours, because the spring bars will be under greater tension than they would be for a lighter trailer. Part # RP6637 is a kit that includes two of the # RP21501 brackets and the lift handle. If you look at the photo I have edited for you, you can see the difference between...

  • Replacement Lift Brackets and Sway Control Recommendation for Reese Weight Distribution System
It sounds like you are talking about the lift brackets such as # RP6637. They attach to the trailer frame and hold the chains at the ends of the spring bars. As far as sway control the best option is going to depend on the design of the spring bars in your weight distribution system. If the bars have the hook end like bar # RP22225 then dual-cam sway control # RP26002 is the best option because it stops sway before it starts. If your spring bars are straight at the ends then your best...

  • Chain Hanger Bracket for I-Beam Frame for Weight Distribution
For a wider I-beam frame like what you have the best solution for weight distribution chain hangers would be to first have a welder box the frame where you'd need to attach the hangers and then use bolt on hangers like the part # RP58305.

  • Replacement Parts for Reese Weight Distribution System with Dual Cam Sway Control
The replacement cam arms are sold in a pair # RP26002 or just the replacement arm # RP58435. Due to the inheritance of your setup you may have a set of gold colored cam arms instead of silver. If this is the case you would want to replace both arms because there was a design change and I cannot recommend you use an old version cam arm with a new one. Alternatively, if your setup is currently silver you can just replace the one arm with either of the above listed products. The heavy...

  • Replacement Lift Brackets for Reese 54970 Weight Distribution System
To replace the trailer frame lift brackets for your Reese Weight Distribution System that uses the # RP54970 adjustable shank I recommend the Lift Bracket Kit # RP6637. This replaces both brackets that simply snap up onto the trailer's frame. The bolts, safety clips, and lift handle are also included. • Replacement Lift Bracket for Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
The Replacement Lift Brackets with Handle for Reese Weight Distribution Systems # RP6637 is what you want for your Reese Strait-Line dual cam # RP66084. This is the proper replacement for the tongue weight you are referring to. If you just want the single replacement # RP21501 which is rated for 600 lbs is what comes with the unit, so the # 58392 is a stronger bracket rated for 800 lb tongue weight. The head, cam arms, and brackets share the weight, so rest assured these are the proper...

  • Installation Instructions for the Reese Weight Distribution System Tip Up Brackets # RP6637
The Reese Weight Distribution System Tip Up Brackets, item # RP6637, are designed so that they can be installed with just the bolts wedged against the trailer frame, or they can be bolted to the frame. Most people opt to just tighten the frame bolts and leave it at that, so that they do not have to drill into the trailer frame. I have linked a set of installation instructions for you to review, on page 3 you will find the instructions for installing the tip up brackets.

  • Fit and Compatibility of Weight Distribution System Chain Lift Brackets
There are different brackets, like the Replacement Heavy Duty Snap-Up Bracket for Reese Weight Distribution Systems # 58392 which will fit tongue weight capacities up to 800 lbs. This is the same bracket that comes with the # RP6637. The # RP21501 is for TW capacities up to 600 lbs. I believe the hooks are the same size, so the chains may not be correct on your system. If this is the case, I recommend the Reese Replacement Weight Distribution Chain Kit # 3216.

  • Reese Weight Distribution Snap up Bracket Recommendation
If you chose to drill into the frame of your trailer to install the # 58392 there are two holes that the bracket has for that purpose. A better deal would be to order the part # RP6637 that is these brackets sold in a pair, plus an additional lift bar. For extra safety pins you would want Reese Replacement Clips for Weight Distribution Uplift Brackets, part # 58029.

The Replacement Lift Brackets, # RP6637, will fit on trailer frames that are 3 inches tall or greater and up to 2-1/2 inches wide along the top. As long as your trailer has a frame with those measurements you would be fine to use these hangers on your trailer with 8,600 lbs total weight and 788 lbs of tongue weight. • Can Curt Chain Hanger Brackets be Used with a Pro Series Weight Distribution System
Although each Weight Distribution (WD) system manufacturer has their own chain brackets, they are a pretty universal fit. The Curt hangers, parts # C17003, # C17005, and # C17008, haven't been tested with a Pro Series WD system but they should fit and work just fine. If you would rather go with chain hangers from Pro Series then you would need to go with part # RP6637 which is technically a Reese brand, but they have the same parent company so they are pretty identical.
