Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution EQ90-02-4600 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Equalizer weight distribution shank. This is designed for use with Equalizer weight distribution systems. Can be used in either the drop or rise positions, whatever works best for your application. The unit's constructed of a really nice, sturdy, steel, construction. It's got a solid shank, here, on the backside as well. It's been dipped for corrosion resistance when it comes to the finish.

The pinholes on the unit, this is going to be located, here, at the back of the shank. The shank slides into the receiver tube of your hitch. You line up the hitch pinholes with the pinholes in your hitch, and secure the unit in place with the hitch pin and clip, or hitch lock. Now, those items are sold separately. This will accept the standard 5/8 inch diameter pin.

It's made right here in the USA. This is designed for a two-inch by two-inch trailer hitch receiver. The unit's rated, when it comes to the gross towing weight, anywhere from 6,000 pounds to a maximum of 14,000 pounds. Ton weight rating is 600 pounds to 1,400 pounds. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. We're going to take a look at the overall length of the unit, measuring edge to edge.

It's going to give us a length measurement of around 18 inches. Now, if you're using it in the rise position, it's going to give you a maximum rise of 8 inches. That's from the inside top edge of the receiver tip of your hitch to the top of the ball platform on the head assembly. If you're using the unit in the drop position with the head assembly at the lowest setting, it's going to give you a maximum drop of 4 inches. You can see right here that it has all the adjustment holes. It's going to offer six adjustment holes.

Those holes are separated on center by an inch and a quarter. If we take a measurement from the center of the hitch pinhole to the center of the adjustment holes, that's going to give us a measurement of, it looks to be right around 14 inches. If we measure from the center of the hitch pinhole to the very front of the unit, that's going to give us a measurement of 15 inches. To this area right here, it's going to be 13 inches. If we measure from the center of the hitch pinhole to the brace right here, to the base of the weld is about 4 3/4 of an inch. To the actual support right here is going to be a little bit closer to 5 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Equalizer weight distribution shank.

My husband wanted this 18" thingy so he could put down the back tailgate on the truck with the RV attached. He took the truck and the RV to our local RV place. For a couple of packs of soda and a big smile, they put this on for him. He could have done it with some effort. But, they had the tools and the time. He is now very happy. He says every time, everything he has bought from etrailer has been the exact product he has wanted. Never a problem. 738279

Toughest shanks on the planet that we have found for our customers come from etrailer and Equalizer (Progress Mfg). Don't let trying to save a few bucks put your rig at risk like the cast iron drawbar did in the photo below that was sent to me by a customer. If you buy the cheapest shanks, make sure you have good safety chains you will likely need them. Get the best from etrailer, Equalizer. 551524

I purchased this to replace my 12” long hitch. This allowed me to keep my tailgate down and pull my camper. The hitch came in 2 days and took 10 min to swap the head from my Husky Weight Distribution Hitch. Still has the same 14,000lb rating as the 12” I took off. Of course my wife and kids were happy that we were able to take the golf cart for the first time with the camper. Great product! For reference, my truck is a 2015 Sierra 2500HD duramax pulling a 2018 Cruiser Embrace EL280 @ 6360lb dry. 628531

Totally satisfied with price, shipping and quality. Solved my tailgate problem, while still maintaining the integrity of the Equalizer WDH system. The additional 6” allows me to drop the tailgate while still hooked to the trailer. Thanks for the prompt shipping 735122

I have a 2019 Ram 2500 Mega Cab 6.4 bed and this gives plenty of room for the tailgate to be down for hauling my golf cart. The shank is very heavy duty. As always, etrailer has fast shipping and great resources that helped me to know this was exactly what I needed. 849861

This item seem to fit the product spec I needed I refitted my ball to it and hooked up the trailer and I can put my tailgate down on my 2019 F-350. My only concern is It seems a bit long on the down side and I'm a little worried about it hitting the ground if I end up going through a large angle like you find going into a parking lot from a main street. We will see! 809823

1st time using etrailer. Couldn’t be more satisfied. Placed order received in 3 days. Price extremely fair and competitive. Was Leary when placing order..but totally surprised and pleased with results. Heavy 18” equalizer hitch. Thought I’d might get a knockoff product....but no. The original unit from manufacturer. Will use again. Doug-wisconsin 802777

I bought the extended shank as we have a golf cart. I am able to tow with the golf cart in bed of truck while towing our Jayco Jay flight with no problems. I have about 2 inches clearance between the tail gate and my electric tongue jack. I have had no issues, even while making tight turns. This is a well built overall a Great product. 793561

We went from a 1994 Chevrolet C1500 to a 2018 F150. The receiver hitch was 3” higher on the Ford. The shank we had would not give me enough drop and the F150 tailgate could not be opened without hitting the RV’s tongue jack. This shank solved both problems. Excellent! 583955

What a beast! I needed this to lower the nose on my Trailer slightly and to be able to open the hatch on our 2015 Yukon with the trailer attached. THis heavy hunk of iron fits the bill. We needed about 3” in extra length. This provided 6” and works perfectly. As usual, the shipping and CS from etrailer was stellar. The product was slightly delayed at the mfr and they were very helpful in further holding the shipment as we were out of town during the updated delivery timeframe. So, as scheduled, I got an email the day we agreed upon that the shipment was leaving. Two days back home and everything showed up. 578961

I needed some extra length so that I could haul a Razor Trail SxS in my pick up bed with the tailgate down while pulling my 34’ trailer. I thought about a hitch extension, but that cut my tongue weight by 1/3- 1/2. I found this extra long hitch shank that provided an extra 5 “ of length. It appears strong. I tried it and now I have a tighter turning radius that should work. I also bought tailgate bars to add strength to the tailgate supports. Paul at etrailer was great to work with, and the part arrived within a few days. 471902

  • Recommended Longer Shank for Fastway E2 Weight Distribution System
Yes. You can use the # EQ90-02-4600 with your Fastway E2 weight distibution hitch without any issues. Weight distribution shanks are fairly cross compatible and the tongue weight on this shank will be plenty for you, so there's nothing to worry about!

  • Determining if Equal-i-zer Shank Will Work as Replacement for Eaz Lift Weight Distribution System
Weight distribution shanks are pretty interchangeable between different brand systems but I do recommend taking a couple measurements on the existing shank for your Eaz Lift system just to be sure. We don't currently carry Eaz Lift products so I'm unable to verify this myself. The Equal-i-zer Shank # EQ90-02-4600 that you referenced features 3/4" diameter adjustment holes with 1-1/4 inches between each of the holes, on center. This is pretty much the standard hole size and spacing but...

  • Will 18 Long Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank Affect Trailer Hitch Weight Rating
The extra long Equal-i-zer shank # EQ90-02-4600 will not affect your trailer towing rating since this is part of a weight distribution (WD) system and it has a tongue weight (TW) range of 600 lbs - 1,400 lbs. Please note that this is labeled as an 18" long shank but from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes measures 14". The 14" is actually more of an important factor so you want to compare this with what you currently have.

The 600 to 1,400 lbs tongue weight rating of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 is based off of what system this shank will work with. If your Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution system is rated for 600 to 1,400 lbs the bolt holes of the shank are compatible with the head. For example the system part # EQ37120ET is rated for 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs so EQ90-02-4600 is compatible. The position of the rise/drop of the shank does not affect the tongue weight rating of...

Hi Jeff! I do have a couple solutions for you, however you won't be able to use a separate hitch extender with your Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System when towing. The kind of torque that a weight distribution system puts on the hitch connection, along with the kind of combined tongue weight you're looking at with the Rockwood Trailer and loaded ATV, will just be too much to ensure safe operation with a hitch adapter in place. All of this together will simply create too much instability....
