An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

When hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear of the vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the vehicle's weight as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall vehicle handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. The resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with the vehicle's factory suspension to keep the vehicle level and improve your driving performance.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a vehicle-specific bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape provides increased resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer helping to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or passing of a semi) because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside quicker.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened as the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the competition:

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - no air hoses are needed to be run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments necessary. The rubber construction causes Timbren's springs to be more elastic than similar products constructed of micro-cellular urethane. More elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Volkswagen CC

A year ago, I added Timbrens to my '09 F350 to help carry a '09 Lance 915 camper. Since my truck is a CC LB diesel model, the truck payload and loaded weight of my camper are similar. I found the Timbrens a cost effective way to limit the suspension sag and improve truck/camper sway. When unloaded, I rarely notice the Timbrens as they are ~1.5" away from the spring pack stop and only engage on large bumps. I also like the maintenance free aspect of Timbrens. To further enhance the loaded ride, I am replacing the thin factory contact pads on my overload springs with larger ones. I found that adding the Timbrens limited suspension travel such that it prevented adequate overload spring engagement with the factory pads. The replacement overload pads from Torklift and Supersprings are 3" (too much IMO as they contact the overload spring nearly all the time making for a rough ride). I am cutting down a set of Superstops to ~1.5 - 2" for the right amount of overload spring contact and Timbren engagement but still maintaining unloaded ride quality. 570372

The Timbrens are great, I do have to say they ride rough if you put the spacer in with them, but if you take out that rear spacer and run the bushing and the metal, it rides just as how it rode from factory. I pulled a loaded up trailer and the truck doesnt squat at all. If you tow a big trailer on the regular like myself (landscaping industry) these are a must. Even ordered them for my other work trucks too. 783549

2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty

The TIMBREN rear suspension parts that I installed on my 2015 F-250 Super Duty fit and function like they said and are nice because they stay on the vehicle for ever and there is no maintenance. If you are carrying a lightweight Slide-In Camper or one that is well within your vehicle's GVW,PAYLOAD AND RAWR, this product will more than be adequate. 694298

I have sold that truck and bought a new one. One of the first things that I did was install a set on the rear. It now 45ft fithwheel trailer. One of the best towing or hauling upgrades available

I've ordered from etrailer previously, and this is my third set of Timbrens, as I was very pleased with the performance of the previous sets, and the fact that they don't engage until the truck is loaded, and don't require any adjustment or have any moving parts. The installation is easy on a new truck, as everything is clean and the bump stump fasteners that need to be removed aren't corroded. I upgraded to the heavier set of Timbren's this time, and needed to jack the truck in order to fit the spring and spacer between the Timbren mount (on the frame rail) and the axle stop. If I had elected to omit the spacer, I would've been able to install the spring w/o the spacer. However, I wanted to reduce sag when trailering, and am willing to sacrifice some ride comfort. The Timbrens are engaged now w/o a load in the truck (only an auxiliary fuel tank), and the rear of the truck now sits 3/4" higher than on the OEM spring pack (incl. factory overload leaf springs). I have not had a chance to run loaded and unloaded, but am hopeful that the unloaded/no trailer ride will not be too harsh. 499929

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

After a 3000 mile trip with a 42' fifth wheel on a 2016 Chevrolet single rear wheel short bed 3500HD, I will say they made a difference. They took some of the bounce and the side to side rocking out of the truck. I would definitely put them on my next truck as well. 667565

Still good. The right solution is a dually with heavier springs and more stability from 4 tires, but that is not in the budget.

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

this is the second set of Timbren springs I have purchased, the first set was on my Ford Raptor, they took all of the sag and sway out of pulling my boat. I have this set on my 2015 GMC Denali 2500HD, I pull a 42 ft. 5th wheel and the Timbren's take all of the sag and sway out, these are in my opinion the best product I have purchased for my truck. 683687

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

Installed this on my 2009 Caravan because when I had a hitch mount 4-bike platform rack hanging off the back and was loaded with camping gear and family, the rear suspension was terrible, it would bottom out, and my headlights pointed up so that everyone would flash their brights at me. New shocks helped, but did not solve the problem. This product did fix the problem and I am very happy. I was concerned about the feel when the van us unloaded, but this has not been an issue. I highly recommend this product. 796869

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I had made purchases from etrailer in the past and have always been satisfied with the service and products purchased. During this transaction I purchased Tembren bump stops for my 2019 Chevy Colorado. They dont affect the ride of my truck until I put it undet a load. Then they give me better handling of the truck and less weight taken off of my steering. It was quite an easy install, and they work great! I feel the price could have been a little better, however overall I am very satisfied compared to what it would have cost to install air shocks. Thanks etrailer, another satisfied customer! 665150

Since purchasing the bump stops from E Trailer I have been hauling a 5000 lb. Travel trailer for about a year. I am very pleased with the ride of the truck under a load. The Tembren bump stops improved things significantly. Thanks E Trailer! Another purchase made from you and a very satisfied customer.

My van is a 2000 GMC Safari. when pulling my 17 ft. boat it would sag pretty bad. after installing the Timbrens it sits level and isn't bottoming out anymore. Great product and great service from etrailer. The Timbrens went on very easily and the instructions were good. 122042

Van gave out about 2 months after installed them, didnt notice much difference except van road rougher. It was an older van and might have done better with new shocks.

With this Timbren System installed you may notice a difference in the ride quality of the van when the Timbren springs are not activated. The benefits of Timbren suspension enhancement systems are designed to provide additional support when there is a load placed on them and on the vehicle suspension.

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded. 654107

I have had zero problems with the Timbrens on my truck. I have pulled our camper and several tag along trailers hauling equipment and parts. They do exactly what they are supposed to. Saves on sag by over an inch. No complaints here.

Review from a similar Aeon Spring System in Vehicle Suspension

I bought these as a replacement for "air bags" which I had two different sets, which failed over 10 years. i would say this product is helpful with pulling a trailer and lighter loads but from time to time I haul heavier loads and this product doesn't offer as much help/support as the air bags. This product is a little cheaper and if they don't weaken over time they will be a help. I have added additional leaf springs to two different pickups but then you end up with a stiffer ride full time. 421383

This is extremely rare and I can only imagine this happening if the springs were incorrectly installed, or were in the wrong location, under an extremely heavy load, or possibly having the wrong system installed. Per the instructions, there should only be a gap between 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches when the vehicle is empty. That gap is eliminated when the vehicle has a load added. The Timbren system is designed to work with a suspension system that is in good working order.
