When towing your vehicle with a tow bar, all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Certain vehicles - namely, those with front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions - require either a transmission lube pump system or a driveshaft disconnect when being flat towed. Using a tow dolly eliminates the need for those by lifting your vehicle's front wheels off the road. In addition, using a dolly eliminates the need for base plates that clutter the front of your towed car, difficult-to-install wiring, and a potentially expensive supplemental braking system. Also, if you want to tow multiple vehicles, this dolly is a great alternative to traditional flat towing because you don't have to purchase and install brackets and wiring for all of your cars.

Superior Design

Electric Brakes

The built-in electric brakes make it safe and easy to stop your vehicle while you're towing. This meets towing requirements, and also helps prevent the extra wear and tear on your RV's brakes that would otherwise occur because of the added towing weight. An electric brake controller (sold separately) must be purchased and mounted inside your RV to complete the installation. In addition, you will need a 6-way or 7-way trailer connector on the dolly so that it can receive the braking signal from your RV.

Universal Compatibility

The sliding ramps offer a 47" range of adjustment to ensure a precise fit for almost any vehicle you decide to tow. Also, the included wheel nets adjust to fit tires that are up to 30" outer diameter x 11" wide.

This Roadmaster tow dolly was manufactured extremely well. The welds and metal grade are traditional made in America high-quality. Putting it together at home will take two people and the right tools-plan for the day accordingly. I used heat shrink wrap, high quality electrical tape and zip ties to control the wiring better. Follow the assembly directions carefully. This is one heavy product delivery. I towed our Ford Focus and it tows beautifully. Backing up can be challenging. When loading your vehicle you may have to get your front tires very close to the tip of the rack to make the fulcrum effect work. Once again this is a great product and worth the extra $.

Added a spare tire carrier and wheel jack (also available from eTrailer). With attention to all fasteners and tire pressure, tow dolly performed well. First trip out of the box was 4000 miles rt to Yellowstone NP, no problems.

Dolly seems fine. Still putting it together. But there was never any any type of tracking information provided. Just a note it was received on the 1st. It said it was shipped on the 5th and then nothing until we got a call for delivery on the 14th. I generally get some sort of tracking information which I much prefer.

  • Do I Need To Lock The Steering Wheel When Towing A Vehicle With The Roadmaster Tow Dolly
Yes, that is correct. When using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes - 4,250 lbs, part # RM-2050-1, you have to lock your steering wheel. I also recommend using a wheel lock as a fail safe. This way you have added protection you know your tow dolly will stay put. I prefer the The Wheel Club - Tire and Wheel Lock, part # WI490. It can fit tires up to 16", so you will have no issues using it with the Roadmaster Tow Dolly. I have included a product description link and video review...

  • Tow Dolly That Will Work With 18 Inch Wheels
There is a tow dolly that will work with your 2017 Nissan Murano's 18 inch wheels but the Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1 will not work with that size wheel; as you noted it will only work with wheels that are between 12 and 16 inches. Instead, I recommend the Demco Kar Kaddy X Tow Dolly # DM9713093 as it does not have the wheel restrictions of the Roadmaster. As you can see by the cut out of the linked instructions, the Kar Kaddy has wheel straps that are designed to fit a wide variety...

  • Can Vehicle Back Up While Towing Vehicle on a Tow Dolly
The simple answer is that you do not. It's not recommended to back a vehicle that has either a flat towed vehicle or a vehicle on a tow dolly behind it because of how short the distance between the vehicles is. Attempting to do so will cause a jackknife that will damage the tow vehicle, the tow dolly or the vehicle on the dolly. Or all three. The only way you can safely back while towing would be to place the vehicle on a flatbed trailer, or to remove the dolly from the tow vehicle.
