I found an online copy of the owners manual from Ford for your 1997 Ford Taurus. It states that you can only flat tow with 4 wheels down for a maximum of 50 miles and at speeds no greater than 35 miles per hour. To tow the vehicle further and at higher speeds you would need to use a tow dolly. Please check your owners manual and/or contact a Ford dealer for more information.
We do have a tow dolly that you can use. Take a look at Roadmaster tow dolly # RM-2050-1. This unit features lights, electric brakes, and adjustable width, basically everything you will need. The towing vehicle will need to be equipped with a brake controller to activate the trailer brakes.
This dolly uses a 6-Way round pin trailer connector so the towing vehicle will also need the matching connector, like # PK12720. Or if the tow vehicle has a different type of connector there may be an adapter available. For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, because it is easy to use and easy to set up.
