When towing your vehicle with a tow bar, all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Certain vehicles - namely, those with front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions - require either a transmission lube pump system or a driveshaft disconnect when being flat towed. Using a tow dolly eliminates the need for those by lifting your vehicle's front wheels off the road. In addition, using a dolly eliminates the need for base plates that clutter the front of your towed car, difficult-to-install wiring, and a potentially expensive supplemental braking system. Also, if you want to tow multiple vehicles, this dolly is a great alternative to traditional flat towing because you don't have to purchase and install brackets and wiring for all of your cars.

Tilting Bed Frame

Demco Tow Dolly Tilting Bed Frame

The tilting bed frame makes loading and unloading your vehicle a breeze. Pull the latch handle on the dolly's tongue toward the coupler to drop the bed frame. This will angle the loading ramps down to make it easy to drive your car onto the dolly. Once your car is properly loaded, the weight of your vehicle on the dolly will automatically reengage the latch on the tongue assembly and return the platform to a locked, level alignment. There's no need to manually relatch the bed after loading your vehicle. After unloading your vehicle, realign the platform by simply stepping down on the tongue until it latches into place.

Hydraulic Disc Brake System

Hydraulic Disc Brake System

The integrated hydraulic braking system features Demco's eZ-Latch surge coupler and disc brakes for safe stopping of your towed vehicle. When the eZ-Latch coupler latch is in the closed position, drop the coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place. No need to pull the latch up to open the ball socket. The drop that's built into the coupler helps you match your tow vehicle height, and the included breakaway lever activates the tow dolly's brakes should it disconnect from your RV. All hydraulic lines and fittings come pre-installed with the hoses run through the frame.

Demco Tow Dolly Disc Brakes

Disc brakes provide more consistent stopping power and a shorter stopping distance than drum brakes for safer transport of your vehicle. When you apply the brakes in your motorhome, deceleration will occur and momentum will push the dolly toward the rear of your RV. This applies force to the surge coupler's master cylinder, which sends hydraulic fluid through the lines to engage the brakes. This design ensures that the dolly brakes proportionately to your motorhome, which helps to eliminate wear and tear on your RV's brakes. And, because the brakes don't require an electrical signal, an electric brake controller is not needed.

Setup and Use

The main components of the Kar Kaddy X come pre-assembled for fast setup. Use the included instructions and hardware to attach the main frame to the tongue assembly, then install the ramps, fenders, mud flaps, and wheels. Finally, connect the pre-routed wiring.

Prior to towing, bleed the hydraulic system to remove any air from the brake fluid reservoir. Brake fluid is not included.

Demco Tow Dolly Wheel Nets

The textured ramps allow for safe loading of your vehicle onto the integrated wheel platforms. Once your towed car is in place, drape 1 tie-down strap over each front tire. Secure the straps to the platforms, and then use the tie-down winches to easily tighten the straps around the wheels. Attach the included safety chains to your vehicle's frame and you're ready to set out.

Included tie-down straps fit most standard automotive tires. Straps for large (DM03528-93) or small (DM03528-81) tires are sold separately.

Built for Highway Use

Hit the highway in the quality, well-engineered Kar Kaddy X. The dolly's radial tires create less rolling resistance and heat buildup than bias ply tires, resulting in longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds. This makes radial tires ideal for highway use.

Demco Tow Dolly Lighting Package

The full LED lighting package is DOT compliant for safe towing. Brake, tail, and turn signal lights, and license plate marker lights are included to increase visibility on the road.

The galvanized ramps and black powder coated components resist rust and chipping. And rustproof polyethylene fenders protect your vehicle from flying road debris.

The Kar Kaddy was meticulously packaged and palleted. Iy arrived in great condition, thanks for using UPS freight. Instructions for assembled were straight forward. You will spend some time gettin the yoke assembly inserted and secure as the electrical connections get in the way. We ended up using cable items on the connector to keep them up and away from the pivot bolt hole. Also the taillights are a little tricky to install. I can see how people complain they fell out as you must take some time to ensure they are fully inserted in the mountain grommets. Great caddy and very well built. The brakes were easy to bleed with a power bleeder. I look forward to the upcoming camping season as now we can bring the VW toad (EOS) with us.

After a year and 5000 miles absolutely no complaints. Everything works as it should and we have towed down some jarring interstates and rural roads. I did use a power bleed system for the brakes and they work perfectly. Planning on an over 10,000 miles of travel this year and our toad will be right where it belongs, securely behind us on our Demco Kar Kandy.

@BillS Well Kandy if you are going on jarring interstates and rural roads, sound like you are going to the best spots. 10,000 miles of travel this year, very cool! If you don't mind me asking, what has been your favorite campsite so far? I am always looking of cool places to explore and I have learned there is no one better to ask than our customers.

The trailer is great BUT UNFORTUNATELY the wiring and lights are a constant challenge and struggle on essentially every trip.

Lights are now inoperative. the tail lamps fall out of the rubber retaining ring. Wiring connectors come apart too easily. Structure of the trailer and mechanical performance is great.

We use the Demco tow Dolly many time each year. We travel and this allows us to take a car with us. The only problem was I wish that when it was order we had a choice as which wheel straps came with it. It came with the ones for small tires and our Grand Caravan had large tires we needed to order the larges one after having lots of problems with supplied ones coming off. Also the first time we used we loss both of the tail lights from the trailer had to replace them but found a different one at etrailer that fit better and stayed on the trailer. We have not lost any since and it has been to Mcallen TX and back to Iowa 4 times as well as to St Louis Mo and back many times. I would purchase another one if anything happened to this one.

by:

Hi George J. For the short time we had our Demco Kar Kaddy we appreciated the fact we purchased that particular model. Unfortunately, we had a catastrophic incident with the kaddy, not the kaddy's fault. The kaddy performed to the expectations of the great engineering, but the ball hitch failed us and tore up the kaddy. We were forced to relinquish the kaddy as no one would tow it for us. Demco has a premium product and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to tow their vehicle.
Thank you for the follow-up.

Respectfully,
Robin and Don

by:

Trailer works great! Easy to pull and maneuver. Only problem I had was losing 2 brake lights because they didn’t pop into the fenders tightly. Replaced them with similar store bought lights and they stay in great. Nice trailer.

by:

Very good product. Works very well. My one complaint is how the tail lights are affixed. The rubber grommet can allow the light to pop out. This is happened twice necessitating a replacement light and wiring cord. Needs to be redesigned with a more secure mounting.

by:

The trailer is great but the tail lights fall out on the road, it happened 3 different times.

@Timothy As a first step, we recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 on the trailer connector as each taillight function is activated. Or if possible, try the tow dolly with a different vehicle. Check to make sure the trailer connector on the tow vehicle and the tow dolly is securely connected to the non-corroded metal on the vehicle and tow dolly frame. Let us know what you find!

Bought this to tow a 2019 VW Atlas behind a Class C motorhome. It towed with no problems at all. Assembly took a couple of hours but was pretty easy.

by:

The crate it was delivered in was robust. A little difficult to unload due to the size and weight. The assembly was easy with simple to follow instructions. The dolly is well made and will last a long time.

by:

Arrived on time it was crated very well. Took some time to get it uncreated. The kaddy is everything they stated i was afraid it might be like some I saw at other trailer sales.
Heavy duty steel easy instructions only took two of us to put it together in about 3 hours. Overall it was great buying from them.

by:

We love the new car dolly. Tows well and so
Much easier to load than our previous dolly. We have had one problem. Both of the tail light holders on the fenders cracked. I called and they were both replaced. I did have to clean out the old rivets and re-river the new holders on. Also, we lost one of the tail
Lights, it popped out on a bad road. I was told it was because I did not install it correctly because I did not hear a double snap
When installing. I corrected the problem by drilling a hole
In the led light and placed a zip tie on the light in case it popped out.

by:

was surprised how fast it arrived. Also, only assembly needed is attaching the tongue to the trailer.

by:

Not that easy to put together, parts are very heavy. Instructions not real clear. On the plus side it is very sturdy much better than my previous dolly. More conveniences than other dollies I have used. I just need to figure out how to bleed the brakes, I have not seen any info on that.

Best Dolly on the market. Heavy duty, convenient and pulls great.

by:

Always helpful and friendly with excellent service. A long time customer.

by:

I think it is a great tow dolly, however I did have an incident 6/2021 while crossing Pennsylvania on the interstate between Wisconsin and New York, my passenger side, dolly tail light disappeared. Evidently a bump or pothole must have popped the tail light out of its socket and bouncing pulled loose connectors. It was there at the west side of the state, but gone by the time we got to New York. Not the best interstate I've ever been on!

It sounds like it was a rough interstate. We do have the replacement tail light for the tow dolly. It is part # DM45MV.

by:

Have not had a chance to use yet. Kar Kaddy had all correct parts and assembled very straight forward. No issues.

by:

We are extremely disappointed with all the electrical problems this trailer has. We expected high quality design and instead received a trailer that isn’t up to the task. The plastic housing for the lights cracked. We were sent a replacement. Then that replacement cracked. The wiring for the lights inside the housing twisted apart. The construction of the light system allowed the whole assembly to spin around as we went down the road until the wires snapped. We have spent more time with non functioning lights and too much time repairing a brand new $XXX trailer. Not Happy.

by:

not an easy assembly.
like the dolly.
seems highway worthy.
let ya know soon.

by:

This seems to be a well built dolly. Only issue was one fender had slight damage and was missing the light wire bundle tie strap located on the back of the fender. They really need to build a proper shipping pallet for these. Mine was on 3 pallets that we're hobbled together, and nearly destroyed by the time I received it.

by:

I ordered this trailer on Monday and it arrived on Friday. The quality is incredible. I assembled it by myself without any issues. We towed our Corolla around the Texas Hill Country this weekend and it worked perfectly. Thanks

by:

Looks well built delivered well put together was fairly easy the instructions were a little confusing

by:

There are two aluminum threaded chunks that the two arm braces bolt to the tounge. these need to be changed to steel threaded chunks with some type of locking measures because we all know that aluminum will not hold these bolts in because of the viberation of the dolly. One of mine fell out within the first 5 miles and the other was loose when I noticed it.

by:

After getting shipping details staightened out which etrailer did product is well built heavy duty. Wont put together until i get back from vacation very happy so far.will finish with pics after vacation

by:

I put it all together today, you do have to be a little mechanical to do it, don't put the tires on until the fenders are on, just a little extra work, other than that it's very well built.

by:

So far a very nice trailer and good looking. My Volvo V60 wagon fit nice. No slapping underneath

  • Tow Dolly for 2016 Mini Clubman S With Low Ground Clearance
There won't be any problems towing your 2016 Mini Clubman S on a tow dolly, even with its low ground clearance at the rear. The vehicle's rear axle and wheels are very far back, so it isn't going to tilt downwards enough to cause issues over flat pavement, though over speed bumps, if it is raised up enough, it could of course hit the ground, and unfortunately there really isn't any way to overcome that type of obstacle. If you do choose to dolly tow, the best options by far are the Demco...

You will need to measure from where the front wheel touches the ground on front side of the tire to the front of the lower portion of the front end of the vehicle where it has lowest ground clearance.
