Today we're going to be taking a look at part number HM48440, this is the Hopkins Endurance Six Way Round Trailer Connector for the trailer end. It's going to feature an ergonomic pistol grip design. Places right in your hand, just like that, very comfortable natural grip to use. It's going to make it easier when it comes to connecting and disconnecting the six way round trailer connector. This is going to be made from corrosion resistant materials. It does come with a mounting bracket and the hardware as well as a grease packet for the connection points. To make your connection points, all you need to do is undo the screw here at the back of the face. That's going to allow this portion to disengage and then under the screw here, that's going to separate these two pieces of plastic at the housing on the grip.
That's going to expose the connection points you can place the wire through, make the connections as necessary and then make sure it feeds out through this area here. It's got the nice protective rubberized gasket that's going to conform around the wires for a nice sealed connection. This is going to mount with the two included screws and then simply the connector snaps into place and it's going to be held there, so it's always there when you need it and you can keep it up and out of the way when it's not being connected. Everything has a place, everything in it's place. This clip setup helps keep my connector out of the dirt/moisture when trailer is parked. Connector is way superior to the all zinc units too.
Very good design and easy to install; best suited for 14 gauge wire to use as-is. I wanted to use 12 AGW, so I had to remove some of the plastic material inside the grip to make room, and used liquid electrical tape and shrink wrap instead of the stock rubber seal. Works very well!
Performed well until I failed to make sure it was locked in place. Could not handle being dragged on the freeway for 235 miles at 60 mph.
