Video Transcript for Fulton Trailer Winch - Standard Hand Winch - FW32000101 Review

Today we're going to review part number FW32000101. This is the new Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle. This new winch has a completely enclosed design which is durable and stylish. It has a cast aluminum frame which will provide corrosion resistance. Just to show you there's the opening for the strap. It has a planetary two speed gear system which lets you shift speeds quickly and easily. Down in front right here you can see there's a pull and turn knob which will easily engage and disengage the pall on the inside.

Basically if it's in this position as you can see right here-that is the engage position. If you pull it out turn it all the way to the other side that is the disengage position. It's very quick and easy-you just pull it up and rotate it. There is no exposed spring on there. Now it does have two speeds a low speed and a high speed. Just to show you basically how you would shift into those gears is your handle would actually do that.

You just pull out and that would be your low gear; if you push in that will be your high gear. Basically the difference is the gear ratio when you're in the high gear which its in right now the ratio is 5.1 to 1 which basically means for every five times you turn this crank the drum on the inside here will turn one revolution. The low gear, right there-if you turn this handle it will be 16 to 1. Basically for every 16 turns of this handle the drum on the inside will turn one revolution, so you got two speeds. You see it just goes in and out with the handle. The handle is a nice also aluminum.

Handle has a soft grip handle which will offer alternate adjustability. The actual handle itself-if you can see the holes here on the side you can adjust the handle length from six to nine inches.Basically I have it bolted on the very end one and if you measure from here to here it's going to be nine inches. If you go back down here it'll be eight, seven and then six. Basically you move it each inch for each hole you put it in too. That helps balance the torque speed and clearance for you.

Now this does use the EIS system which is the easy install system and that's a quick and easy installation. It fits industry standard mounting pattern. All the necessary hardware right here is included and basically as you can see you would just slide these in to line it up and then just use your flange nuts to tighten it down; very easy install system. It's a dual gear drum in a solid drive gear which will allow smooth and reliable operation. On the very back here you can see this part that's bolted on around here-that basically is a very hard plastic and it actually covers the gears. What that does its a rear strap guide so basically when your strap comes out here the strap has no way of getting into the teeth or the gears of your drum. Helps it from getting stuck or anything like that. Now this part does come with the strap. It is a 20 foot long two inch wide strap and basically the way that would install-I can show you right in here if you'll look-if you can see there we have the bolt-there's the hub drum center-the drum right there and then you can see the bolt that goes across.Basically what you would do is take the end of your strap-right here it has a loop on it and then they give you this strap anchor which is a very solid piece of metal that goes into that loop. Basically what you will do is run this strap between your hub drum and that bolt, pull the strap out, put the anchor in, and then when you tighten it down-this will hold it between that bolt and that hub drum-this anchor being in here will snug up against there and then you turn it around it will wrap around there. You do want to have at least three wraps of the strap around there at all times; you don't want it to the very end; very quick strap installation. The hub diameter on this on the inside is 7/8 inch hub diameter. This winch is designed for use with the strap only. It will hold the 20 foot by two inch wide strap. It does have a capacity of 3200 pounds and this winch does come with a limited lifetime warranty. One last tech feature that we do get a lot of questions on or tech note is at one time when they initially designed this winch they were going to have a third position where you pull this handle out and if you pull it out even further that would put it in a neutral position but because of safety reasons they have eliminated that position it's only the high and low gear position now. When they designed it the case still says neutral on it so if you turn it to that position there really is not a neutral position. If you do turn it to that position the strap will unwind but this handle does turn. In other words the handle will not be in a neutral position; the handle will turn if there is a load pulling out on this when it is in the marked neutral position here. You really don't need to use that just use the engage or the disengage. They have actually taken the neutral out of the handle. That should do it for the review on part number FW32000101, the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle.

very easy to use. the two gear system makes it very easy to get my 25 foot boat on the trailer. Sleek design. 589716

After one season of use on this winch, I am still happy with it, and it has not had any problems. Our boat is heavy, and it helps a lot to have a low gear once the boat is most of the way out of the water. We use it in a saltwater environment, so hopefully it works well for years... we do rinse it out good after each use. 464848

awesome product piece of cake to install. it pulls my 32 foot Baja onto its trailer with ease. And E- trailer's shipping is fast almost as fast as my Baja...I said almost!! thanks everyone you will have my business again. 97692

This winch seems to work fine except for one MAJOR flaw: The strap won't easily pay out when you switch the mode to neutral. In HIGH gear, it requires a lot of force to pull the strap out (i.e. to get it hooked onto the boat when the boat is several feet away from the winch) as compared with other winches I have used. In LOW gear, I found it *impossible* to pull hard enough to pull the strap out. I will continue to use it, but I am pretty disappointed in this "feature". 565996

Comments

As of January 2013, Neutral option has been disengaged for safety reasons. In low speed the handle turns 16 times to 1 drum revolution.

Now my wife can crank the boat on the trailer with this 2 speed drive. Good looking and good quality. Bolted right on the deck plate on the trailer. Removal of the black plastic cover frame is required to remove the strap before installation. Star screws are a good idea and the plastic cover only fits one way. I recommend this product. 284694

Mounted this on my 2009 Ranger Trail and it fit perfectly using the factory holes for the old winch. I have to deal with a very shallow ramp to access the Pamlico RIver where I live and the Fulton F2 pulls my 20 ft Z520 bass boat (a very heavy boat) onto the trailer with no problem. Etrailer provided fast delivery as well. I recommend this F2 winch and etrailer.com without reservation. 184954

I chose it as my previous winch broke as it was not powerful enough. It was a Fulton 1800T. It was fine if I could get the boat trailer deep enough in the water when backing down the ramp. It was always hard to winch my Four Winns 22ss the last foot on the carpet rails. This winch is much more powerful and does the job. It was easy to install as it fit into the existing holes made for the previous winch. I would recommend this winch. There is no neutral so watch the winch handle when letting out the strap. 100040

The boat winch is very well made. It will probably outlast the trailer i installed it on. 523169

I received the winch a few days ago and havent mounted on to my lowboy as of yet. The winch itself has a sturdy ghousing and it looks like it is going to be easy to mount. E-Tralior has always shipped me great quality of items that I have ordered from thm. An Excellent company to be dealing with. I order all of my traiolor parts from e-trailor. Graet company excellent support if you have problems they will handle it for you. Thanks Larry 192385

Great winch. However, installation was a bit difficult as my previous winch had 2 bolts front to back. After a call to e-trailer, they confirmed that I could use 2 bolts. I then needed to change the nut and bolt adding a large washer to cover the large hole and a lock washer below. Getting the bolt and washer into the housing was the difficult part but I was eventually successful. Will be using the winch at the end of the month and can verify performance then. 190305

e-trailer got this to me in one day! Thank you! Excellent winch. I replaced an original Fulton winch on my 8 year old MC boat trailer. It was rated at 1300 lbs. and was adequate. When the pawl for the small gear broke, leaving it useless, it was time for new. I thought this 2 speed F2 would be overkill for my application, but I'm very glad I made this choice. I didn't realize how hard I was working with that old winch. This winch makes it almost effortless. It works smoothly, has a nice clean look, and has no traditional pawl to break. Of course we'll have to see how it holds up once THIS one is 8 years old. :) Note: The rating of 3200 lbs. is a bit misleading. The side of the housing is marked saying it's rated at 3200 lbs. first layer, and 1600 lbs. with a full drum. I guess that means the more you strap wind in, the less pulling it can handle. 44981

I just finished installing the winch strap and crank handle. The winch works as advertised and appears to be a quality product. Look forward to many years of trouble free usage. 479928

Product appears to be great, but unfortunately I have to return it because the mounting hole pattern does not match my boat trailer. I will be ordering another Fulton product from etrailer.com. 200475

- FW32000101
by:

This is an excellent winch especially with the two speed gearing and the fact the winch is enclosed. It was relatively easy to install - the only modification I had to make was to drill an additional mounting hole at the front (toward the front of the trailer). Once that was done it took only a few minutes to finish the installation. Great product and a very fair price. 475343

Always had trouble with loading the last 2-3 inches of my 16' Lund with a 75 & 10 HP Mercs. Installed the F2 and easily pulled the boat about 3 inches on a dry trailer. Much better than going to all the trouble and reliability issues of an electric winch. As with all of my Etrailer purchases it seems to exceed my expectations. 198348

- FW32000101
by:

Although I have not yet used the winch as of yet, just installed it yesterday, I like the look and construction of the product. The two speed option will be of use on the steeper ramps when pulling the boat up the last few feet to the bow stop when you really start to feel the weight of the boat. I had to move the mounting position of the unit due to the size of the winch body. I drilled two new holes to be able to mount it without interference. There was enough adjustment in the third hole so that I did not need to relocate. It matches nicely with the Fulton F2 tongue jack. E-trailer service and delivery were great. Great communication and shipped product quickly. I will definitely consider E trailer for my next trailer parts purchase. 47375

- FW32000101
by:

Unfortunately, this unit does not fit my trailer. The mounting bolt pattern is only about 2 1/4" wide for the forward bolts, but my trailer requires about 2 3/4" wide. Unfortunately, the spec for the winch did not specify the bolt pattern, so I mistakenly assumed the hole patterns are pretty standard. I will need to return this unit. 409033

Comments

The industry standard mounting pattern is basically a triangle-shaped bolt pattern. The two bolts at the bottom are 2-1/4 inches apart on center. The top bolt is 4-1/2 inches from either bottom bolt on center.

Winch is for trailer for 5000 lb. boat and motor. Although spec'd to fit standard winch mounts, I had to drill 2 new holes in my mount, well know trailer maker. Winch appears to be built do the job. Pulled the boat one time, but time will tell. I asked for appropriate winch cover and ordered UF # 38-944020, which agrees with what I received. However dimensions are not as shown on the order. Ordered 12" x 14.5" and received 10.5" x 13.75". Does not fit nicely and not worth hassle of returning. Winch looks nice sitting on the trailer. 567983

This is a great trailer winch. Well built and solid. You can tell as soon as you get it that is a quality winch. I mounted it on a trailer for a 24' Xcursion pontoon boat with a 150hp Evinrude ETEC. So it's probably weighing in at about 3500# to 3900# loaded and full fuel and oil. This thing seems like it could pull it right out of the slip and on to the trailer. I would and have recommended this winch to anyone that is looking for one. It completely blows the cheap stock ones out of the water! You won't go wrong buying this one! 285928

If you have a large boat and need a winch that you can rely on...this is it. Installation required me to drill a few new holes for my custom trailer but that was not a problem. After a full season of using this winch, I can say it is well worth its money. I've got a 4500lb boat that always slipped back after trailering...with this winch, it doesn't happen. This winch is very solid and could quite possibly be used to pull the titanic off the bottom of the ocean. 467599

Very happy with the winch and how it operates. The only challange I had was having to re drill the holes to mount it because of the way my old winch was mounted. The rounded area on the front of the new winch was hitting the trailer winch post so I had to take a small amount of the metal off and shift it back. Great product. 445857

Impressed with the quality of the housing. It did not fit the standard bolt holes - had to drill new bolt holes. The unit is narrower than my old unit. Disappointed with the bolts. Standard grade 5 bolts. were not galvanized...including bolt/ collar for handle. I replaced mounting bolts with galvanized bolts and the handle bolt with a stainless bolt. This is a requirement for the warm salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Strap hook looked undersized as well, and it is not load stamped with a rating....looks cheap. etrailer was excellent and fast shipping, I would definitely buy from them again. 141430

The Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed 2-speed Trailer Winch with adjustable handle- 3200lbs. Replaced my Fulton XLT 1401 Max. Line pull 1400lbs., on my Ranger 520X bass boat and it fit like a glove. Their was some question weather I could up grade to the New Fulton 3200 lb. 2-speed winch, but it fit perfect. The pulling power of this new winch is exactly what I was looking for, thank you Chris W. for all your patience and time you spent with me on the phone at the time of purchase. 460464

I received the 3200 winch yesterday (7-29-13) . Everything was there and looked good. Installation was very easy, everything lined up nicely and fell right into place. Winch was put on a ranger trail trailer with carpeted bunks. The boat was about 6-8 inches from the roller due to the other winch breaking. That distance doesn't sound like a long ways to go, but with the other winch it seemed like a mile. The 3200 pulled it the rest of the way with ease on dry bunks. I couldn't be any happier with the way the transaction went with etrailer. I your looking for a good, well built product, try the Fulton 3200. You won't be sorry. 92313

Excellent product. Very sturdy and easy to use. With the lower gearing it allows you the pull the boat snug after you get to the top of the ramp when it doesn't seat just right the first time. And I would recommend spending the extra money on this unit versus others that are not fully enclosed. Installed on my trailer for my 2000 Moomba ski boat. Boat weight is 2450 lbs dry so close to 3,000 with gas, ski equipment, and other gear. 310237

One year later and I am very happy with the winch. The lower gear is excellent for pulling the boat that last 2 inches up to the stop.

This Fulton F2 3200 lb two-speed winch would not match up with the hole patterns in my (brand new) Salt King boat trailer, which was a surprise given all the assurances in the product descriptions and videos about the winch fitting most common trailer mounts. (And it was further surprising given that the winch I was replacing was a recent-vintage Fulton two-speed winch; same manufacturer). The problem: The front two bolts on this winch are adjustable side to side, but the widest your trailer mounting holes can be is 2.5" centers. On my trailer, they are 2 3/4". The trailer winch plate has slots that allow the bolts to be adjusted front to back beneath the winch, but NOT side to side. Using the winch would have required making an all-new mounting bracket. So I had to return it. Two words: MEASURE FIRST. It's costing me a small fortune to ship the winch back for a refund! 419220

Over the 32 years that I have owned my Sea Nymph fishing boat, I have worn out 3 winches and or handles. The winches I had been using typically were one speed with about 5:1 gearing and had a single ring gear. These winches would torque ever so slightly to the side when under load and the strap would wander and bunch to that side of the take up spool. This bunching would increase the amount of effort I needed to use to get the boat on the trailer. I did find a single speed winch that had 2 ring gears one on either side of the take up spool. This was the most recent winch that I was using and it prevented the belt wander. However, it too, was in the 5:1 gear ratio and required a lot of muscle power. Unfortunately the handle vibrated off this winch while I was returning from a recent outing. I started looking into the possibly of getting an electric winch, but, did not want to hassle with running power to the bow of my boat. I decided that instead, I would try a 2 speed winch. I am not as young as I was, and the the amount of muscle power I have is waning. This Fulton F2 two speed winch was used for the first time yesterday. The winch, I am happy to say worked very well, is smooth and tight! When winding effort started to increase, I switched to the lower gear. This allowed me to wind the boat in quite easily with out breaking into a heart pounding sweat that was getting more typical dependent of the boat landing that I was at. Time will tell whether or not the winch holds up! But, one thing is sure, struggling to pull the boat from the water will not be the reason why I am not going fishing! 206794

As most have said this is a very well made winch.......however, it does not fit ezload trailers without a lot of changes to the mounting system (drilling, mounting plates, additional clamps, etc.).......also, to pull the strap out of the winch to attach to a boat is extremely hard, much harder than most.....and the handle spins with it.....I am a professional guide and although a well made product these flaws do not make it a choice of mine....... 666505

This winch is ok but it can stick and be difficult to crank at times. You have to play with the handle to get it to switch between cranking in and letting out. If I could reselect a different winch, I probably would. 665217

Good winch but not as powerful as I thought it would be. Good for a boat of 2,000 pounds. Mine is over 4,000 and this winch couldn't handle it. Of course one must take into consideration what the boat is sliding, carpet or rollers. 660351

Ordered this winch for my 19' triton bass boat. The previous winch had stripped its gears while pulling this fairly heavy boat onto the bunk trailer. It was always a beastly job to do! Decided to give the 3200# two speed winch a try. As with all previous orders from etrailer, they did not disappoint. Product came on time and seemed well built. Install went well. Mount holes lined up o.k. thanks to the adjustable slot grooves on the winch. Product works great. As with other comments reviewers made, I too did notice winch strap pulls out hard when getting ready to load boat onto trailer. Simply switched to the high gear and pulled out fine. After dealing with a broken, undersized winch, this product works as advertised and will be way easier on my ageing back for sure. Thanks etrailer and Fulton for another job well done! 646589

  • Recommended Manual Winch for 10,000 Pound Boat
  • The highest rated manual hand winch we have available is with a 3,200 pound unit like the Fulton F2 # FW32000101. Boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally around 2 to 1, meaning a 3,000 pound winch should be able to pull a 6,000 pound boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance, which is what it sounds like you have, this ratio can be increased to 3 to 1. With this in mind, the Fulton F2 may be sufficient to pull your 10,000 pound boat with the correct conditions. Considering...

  • You have a Shelby winch. Shelby is no longer in business so that exact winch is no longer available. But there are many other winches you could use even if the capacity is not exactly the same. A 3,200 pound winch such as # FW32000101 is a great option. This winch was designed for marine applications so it is an excellent boat winch. It comes with a strap which is naturally corrosion resistant. If you are looking for something a little more budget friendly the Jif Marine winch # 315-W3200D...

  • Is Line Payout Difficult with Fulton F2 2-Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101
  • You are correct that the Fulton F2 2-Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101 no longer has the neutral feature due to safety reasons. While you can certainly still pull the strap out when needed it does take quite a bit of effort (the handle will turn 16 times to 1 drum revolution when in low speed). Depending on how far away the boat is when this type of operation is needed you might find yourself wishing you had a winch with a neutral position. Because of this I do recommend going with the...

  • 2-Speed Hand Winch That Takes 25-Foot Strap
  • The Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed 2-Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101 can accept a 2-inch x 20-foot winch strap but not a 25-foot. The more layers of strap or rope that are on a winch drum the less the winch's capacity is. A 2-speed hand winch that can take a 25-foot strap is the 2500-lb-rated Dutton-Lainson # DL14825 which can use 25-foot strap # DL24249.

  • Boat Winch That is Rated for a 10,000 lb Boat
  • The heaviest duty boat trailer hand winch that we have is the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed, 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Adjustable Handle # FW32000101, which is rated for 3,200 lbs. The closest winch that we have to 10,000 lbs for your boat is the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch - Marine, part # DL25215, which is rated for 9,000 lbs. This is an electric winch that should get the job done for you. You will need to use a 12V battery to be able to utilize this winch. If you have...

  • Recommended Winch for 10,000 Pound Boat
  • The highest rated manual hand winch we have available is the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142430. This heavy-duty winch features a weight capacity of 3,700 pounds. Boat-weight-to-winch-capacity is generally around 2 to 1, meaning a 3,700 pound winch should be able to handle a 7,400 pound boat without too much trouble. With good rollers on the trailer and a short winching distance, this ratio can be increased to 3 to 1. With this information in mind the Fulton...

  • Recommended Trailer Winch for 25 Foot Pontoon Boat
  • The Fulton 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Heavy Duty 20' Strap - Zinc - 3,200 lbs # F142424 will work well with your 25 foot Sun Tracker Pontoon Boat. The only thing to consider is if you desire a longer strap, which for most trailers wouldn't be needed as you'd float more than 5 feet onto the back of the trailer prior to connection and release prior to that for launch to have adequate footing. If you like the enclosed winch with the same two speeds and capacity, then I recommend the Fulton...

  • Yes, if you have a Fulton F2 winch on your boat trailer currently the Fulton XLT 7k power winch part # F500620 or the 10k power winch part # F500621 would fit the same mount you have on your trailer. These winches are designed to fit the standard winch mounting brackets.

  • I checked with Fulton and Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed, 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Adjustable Handle - 3,200 lbs Item # FW32000101 is made by our neighbors to the south, Mexico. If you are looking for a winch that is made in the USA I recommend Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Two Speed with Direct Drive - 3,200 lbs Item # DL15440. This winch is also rated for 3,200 pounds and has 2 speeds. The strap is not included but you can add up to a 25 foot long strap such as # IMF14211.

  • Recommended Winch for 4,500 lb - 5,000 lb Boat Being Winched a Short Distance
  • Thanks for all that info, and in regards to capacity, a couple of things come into play, including the bunks and the distance you are winching. So while wooden bunks hinder the winch capacity, the fact you are only going a few feet is certainly a bonus so it is safe to assume the boat-size-to-winch capacity for your situation is in the neighborhood of 2-to-1, meaning for a boat that is in the 4,500 lb to 5,000 lb range you will need at least a 2,500 lb or so capacity winch. By far the...

  • Recommended Fulton Winch and Roller Bunks for Ram-Lin Single Axle Trailer with Wooden Bunks
  • Trailer winches, like trailer jacks and hitches, are best selected to provide a healthy safety margin in their weight capacity. All such items tend to last longer and work better when they are not operated at their limits. For a boat that weighs in the range of 2700-lbs you want to choose a winch that offers at least half that weight in pulling capacity. The Fulton F2 # FW32000101 is a 2-speed enclosed winch rated for 3200-lbs. This includes a strap and a nice feature, an adjustable...

  • Winch Recommendation for Four Winns 268 Vista Boat Trailer with Rollers
  • Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio is 1 to 1. Since you mentioned needing a longer strap you probably are between needing the 2 to 1 ratio or the 3 to 1 ratio. The Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed, 2-Speed...

  • Recommended Trailer Winch for a 29 Foot Sea Ray SLX with Twin 350s on a Triple Axle Trailer
  • Sounds like a pretty nice beast of a boat you have! I would recommend the Dutton-Lainson Marine Electric Winch # DL25200 for your Sea Ray SLX, because of its 4,000lb capacity. Winch capacities vary depending on the nature of how they will be used. Factors such as the type of bunks on your trailer (rollers versus carpeted bunks), the amount of incline, the length of the winch cable or strap all affect the actual working capacity of a winch. Boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2...

  • Boat Winch Recommendation for a 4,500 lb Boat
  • When it comes to choosing a winch for a boat trailer, there are a few general rules we can use. The boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. With good rollers and short winching distances, the ration can increase to 3 to 1 and with wooden bunks and long winching distances, you will want to reduce the capacity to 1 to 1. So basically, you will want to look at the type and condition of the bunks on your trailer to choose the best winch. The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, # DL14825,...

  • I'm not sure which winch you're wanting to compare to the # FW32000101 Fulton F2. Could you have meant the Fulton two speed, part # F142424? Both winches have a 3200 lb capacity, both use a 20 foot strap, and both have two speeds. The F2 has an enclosed spool that helps protect the strap from UV exposure while the two speed's spool is is exposed. Other than that, the differences between the two are cosmetic. The ideal ratio between boat weight and winch capacity is 2:1, so either...

  • Will Fulton F2 Trailer Winch # FW32000101 Fit Mounting Plate on EZ-Loader Trailer

The Fulton F2 # FW32000101 has an industry-standard 3-point mounting bolt pattern that is shown in the linked photo. This is compatible with the mounting plate on your Easy-Loader trailer according to my contact at Fulton.

  • How to Wire an Electric Winch

The leads can be connected directly to a trailer mounted battery or you can use the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, # SW2008, to use the vehicle batteries. There are many different options to wire a winch. I have attached...

  • Safety Chain Recommendation for a 10,000 lb Trailer

You may also need to extend the original chains with quick links and added chain, like part # TR63035, which has 6 feet of chain. Each of these chains has a 5k capacity so with 2 you would have a 10k capacity.

  • Replacement Winch Cable and Roller Bunks for Reduced Friction on Boat Trailer
  • Some boat trailer winches we offer can be used with either a wire rope or a polyester strap, such as Dutton-Lainson Direct Drive Winch # DL15440, but others need to use one or the other, including the Fulton F2 you referenced, part # FW32000101 which must use a polyester strap.
