Video Transcript for Fulton Trailer Winch - Standard Hand Winch - FW32000101 Review

Today we're going to review part number FW32000101. This is the new Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle. This new winch has a completely enclosed design which is durable and stylish. It has a cast aluminum frame which will provide corrosion resistance. Just to show you there's the opening for the strap. It has a planetary two speed gear system which lets you shift speeds quickly and easily. Down in front right here you can see there's a pull and turn knob which will easily engage and disengage the pall on the inside.

Basically if it's in this position as you can see right here-that is the engage position. If you pull it out turn it all the way to the other side that is the disengage position. It's very quick and easy-you just pull it up and rotate it. There is no exposed spring on there. Now it does have two speeds a low speed and a high speed. Just to show you basically how you would shift into those gears is your handle would actually do that.

You just pull out and that would be your low gear; if you push in that will be your high gear. Basically the difference is the gear ratio when you're in the high gear which its in right now the ratio is 5.1 to 1 which basically means for every five times you turn this crank the drum on the inside here will turn one revolution. The low gear, right there-if you turn this handle it will be 16 to 1. Basically for every 16 turns of this handle the drum on the inside will turn one revolution, so you got two speeds. You see it just goes in and out with the handle. The handle is a nice also aluminum.

Handle has a soft grip handle which will offer alternate adjustability. The actual handle itself-if you can see the holes here on the side you can adjust the handle length from six to nine inches.Basically I have it bolted on the very end one and if you measure from here to here it's going to be nine inches. If you go back down here it'll be eight, seven and then six. Basically you move it each inch for each hole you put it in too. That helps balance the torque speed and clearance for you.

Now this does use the EIS system which is the easy install system and that's a quick and easy installation. It fits industry standard mounting pattern. All the necessary hardware right here is included and basically as you can see you would just slide these in to line it up and then just use your flange nuts to tighten it down; very easy install system. It's a dual gear drum in a solid drive gear which will allow smooth and reliable operation. On the very back here you can see this part that's bolted on around here-that basically is a very hard plastic and it actually covers the gears. What that does its a rear strap guide so basically when your strap comes out here the strap has no way of getting into the teeth or the gears of your drum. Helps it from getting stuck or anything like that. Now this part does come with the strap. It is a 20 foot long two inch wide strap and basically the way that would install-I can show you right in here if you'll look-if you can see there we have the bolt-there's the hub drum center-the drum right there and then you can see the bolt that goes across.Basically what you would do is take the end of your strap-right here it has a loop on it and then they give you this strap anchor which is a very solid piece of metal that goes into that loop. Basically what you will do is run this strap between your hub drum and that bolt, pull the strap out, put the anchor in, and then when you tighten it down-this will hold it between that bolt and that hub drum-this anchor being in here will snug up against there and then you turn it around it will wrap around there. You do want to have at least three wraps of the strap around there at all times; you don't want it to the very end; very quick strap installation. The hub diameter on this on the inside is 7/8 inch hub diameter. This winch is designed for use with the strap only. It will hold the 20 foot by two inch wide strap. It does have a capacity of 3200 pounds and this winch does come with a limited lifetime warranty. One last tech feature that we do get a lot of questions on or tech note is at one time when they initially designed this winch they were going to have a third position where you pull this handle out and if you pull it out even further that would put it in a neutral position but because of safety reasons they have eliminated that position it's only the high and low gear position now. When they designed it the case still says neutral on it so if you turn it to that position there really is not a neutral position. If you do turn it to that position the strap will unwind but this handle does turn. In other words the handle will not be in a neutral position; the handle will turn if there is a load pulling out on this when it is in the marked neutral position here. You really don't need to use that just use the engage or the disengage. They have actually taken the neutral out of the handle. That should do it for the review on part number FW32000101, the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle.

very easy to use. the two gear system makes it very easy to get my 25 foot boat on the trailer. Sleek design. 589716

Product was easy to install. A lot beefier than the original one. Great replacement for my 2007 Ranger Z-22. 599638

I chose it as my previous winch broke as it was not powerful enough. It was a Fulton 1800T. It was fine if I could get the boat trailer deep enough in the water when backing down the ramp. It was always hard to winch my Four Winns 22ss the last foot on the carpet rails. This winch is much more powerful and does the job. It was easy to install as it fit into the existing holes made for the previous winch. I would recommend this winch. There is no neutral so watch the winch handle when letting out the strap. 100040

Unfortunately, this unit does not fit my trailer. The mounting bolt pattern is only about 2 1/4" wide for the forward bolts, but my trailer requires about 2 3/4" wide. Unfortunately, the spec for the winch did not specify the bolt pattern, so I mistakenly assumed the hole patterns are pretty standard. I will need to return this unit. 409033

Comments
The industry standard mounting pattern is basically a triangle-shaped bolt pattern. The two bolts at the bottom are 2-1/4 inches apart on center. The top bolt is 4-1/2 inches from either bottom bolt on center.

Winch is for trailer for 5000 lb. boat and motor. Although spec'd to fit standard winch mounts, I had to drill 2 new holes in my mount, well know trailer maker. Winch appears to be built do the job. Pulled the boat one time, but time will tell. I asked for appropriate winch cover and ordered UF # 38-944020, which agrees with what I received. However dimensions are not as shown on the order. Ordered 12" x 14.5" and received 10.5" x 13.75". Does not fit nicely and not worth hassle of returning. Winch looks nice sitting on the trailer. 567983

Just got the 3200 winch and 1600 trailer jack installed on my trailer and if these products work half as good as they look I will be completely happy with my purchase. Only thing I can say as of now is I wish I would of upgraded sooner. 94170

Ordered this winch for my 19' triton bass boat. The previous winch had stripped its gears while pulling this fairly heavy boat onto the bunk trailer. It was always a beastly job to do! Decided to give the 3200# two speed winch a try. As with all previous orders from etrailer, they did not disappoint. Product came on time and seemed well built. Install went well. Mount holes lined up o.k. thanks to the adjustable slot grooves on the winch. Product works great. As with other comments reviewers made, I too did notice winch strap pulls out hard when getting ready to load boat onto trailer. Simply switched to the high gear and pulled out fine. After dealing with a broken, undersized winch, this product works as advertised and will be way easier on my ageing back for sure. Thanks etrailer and Fulton for another job well done! 646589

Mounted this on my 2009 Ranger Trail and it fit perfectly using the factory holes for the old winch. I have to deal with a very shallow ramp to access the Pamlico RIver where I live and the Fulton F2 pulls my 20 ft Z520 bass boat (a very heavy boat) onto the trailer with no problem. Etrailer provided fast delivery as well. I recommend this F2 winch and etrailer.com without reservation. 184954

I received the 3200 winch yesterday (7-29-13) . Everything was there and looked good. Installation was very easy, everything lined up nicely and fell right into place. Winch was put on a ranger trail trailer with carpeted bunks. The boat was about 6-8 inches from the roller due to the other winch breaking. That distance doesn't sound like a long ways to go, but with the other winch it seemed like a mile. The 3200 pulled it the rest of the way with ease on dry bunks. I couldn't be any happier with the way the transaction went with etrailer. I your looking for a good, well built product, try the Fulton 3200. You won't be sorry. 92313

e-trailer got this to me in one day! Thank you! Excellent winch. I replaced an original Fulton winch on my 8 year old MC boat trailer. It was rated at 1300 lbs. and was adequate. When the pawl for the small gear broke, leaving it useless, it was time for new. I thought this 2 speed F2 would be overkill for my application, but I'm very glad I made this choice. I didn't realize how hard I was working with that old winch. This winch makes it almost effortless. It works smoothly, has a nice clean look, and has no traditional pawl to break. Of course we'll have to see how it holds up once THIS one is 8 years old. :) Note: The rating of 3200 lbs. is a bit misleading. The side of the housing is marked saying it's rated at 3200 lbs. first layer, and 1600 lbs. with a full drum. I guess that means the more you strap wind in, the less pulling it can handle. 44981

After one season of use on this winch, I am still happy with it, and it has not had any problems. Our boat is heavy, and it helps a lot to have a low gear once the boat is most of the way out of the water. We use it in a saltwater environment, so hopefully it works well for years... we do rinse it out good after each use. 464848

This winch seems to work fine except for one MAJOR flaw: The strap won't easily pay out when you switch the mode to neutral. In HIGH gear, it requires a lot of force to pull the strap out (i.e. to get it hooked onto the boat when the boat is several feet away from the winch) as compared with other winches I have used. In LOW gear, I found it *impossible* to pull hard enough to pull the strap out. I will continue to use it, but I am pretty disappointed in this "feature". 565996

As of January 2013, Neutral option has been disengaged for safety reasons. In low speed the handle turns 16 times to 1 drum revolution.

Impressed with the quality of the housing. It did not fit the standard bolt holes - had to drill new bolt holes. The unit is narrower than my old unit. Disappointed with the bolts. Standard grade 5 bolts. were not galvanized...including bolt/ collar for handle. I replaced mounting bolts with galvanized bolts and the handle bolt with a stainless bolt. This is a requirement for the warm salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Strap hook looked undersized as well, and it is not load stamped with a rating....looks cheap. etrailer was excellent and fast shipping, I would definitely buy from them again. 141430

This winch is ok but it can stick and be difficult to crank at times. You have to play with the handle to get it to switch between cranking in and letting out. If I could reselect a different winch, I probably would. 665217

As most have said this is a very well made winch.......however, it does not fit ezload trailers without a lot of changes to the mounting system (drilling, mounting plates, additional clamps, etc.).......also, to pull the strap out of the winch to attach to a boat is extremely hard, much harder than most.....and the handle spins with it.....I am a professional guide and although a well made product these flaws do not make it a choice of mine....... 666505

  • Is Line Payout Difficult with Fulton F2 2-Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101
You are correct that the Fulton F2 2-Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101 no longer has the neutral feature due to safety reasons. While you can certainly still pull the strap out when needed it does take quite a bit of effort (the handle will turn 16 times to 1 drum revolution when in low speed). Depending on how far away the boat is when this type of operation is needed you might find yourself wishing you had a winch with a neutral position. Because of this I do recommend going with the...

Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio is 1 to 1. So while wooden bunks hinder the winch capacity, the fact you are only going a few feet is certainly a bonus so it is safe to assume the boat-size-to-winch capacity for your situation is in the neighborhood of 2-to-1, meaning for a boat that is in the 4,500 lb to 5,000 lb range you will need at least a 2,500 lb or so capacity winch. Boat to winch capacity is normally 2 to 1. For a 22.5 foot boat with a big motor and 60 gallons of fuel I recommend going with a 3,200 pound winch such as the Fulton F2 winch # FW32000101. It also uses a strap, the winch is fully enclosed which is good for marine applications, and it is rated at 3,200 pounds. I have linked a video review and our FAQ article on winches for you.

  • Recommended Weather Cover for Fulton F2 Hand Winch
I can help you find a cover for your Fulton F2 Hand Winch # FW32000101. I was able to go out to our warehouse and try the Ultra-Fab Cover # UF38-944020 on the Fulton winch # FW32000101. This bag measures 12 by 14-1/2 inches. I have linked a few pictures to see how it fit. The bag was able to stretch over the housing unit but not the handle when attached. We also have a 14-1/2 by 15-1/2 vinyl bag # UF38-944026, that will give you slightly looser fit than the one pictured. Since...

  • Faster Hand Winch Recommendation for Boat Trailer
The Fulton F2 Winch part # FW32000101 that you referenced would be a great option for you as it has a high speed gear that is 5.1:1 which would move the wire rope pretty quickly. If you ever needed more leverage you could switch it to the low gear 16:1. Also the handle length on this jack is adjustable as well. The shorter the handle the faster you will be able to turn it as wel.

  • How to Wire an Electric Winch
An electric winch is typically powered by either a battery mounted on the trailer or the vehicle batteries. Electric winches will have power leads coming from the winch that will attach to the positive and negative posts on a 12 volt battery (see photo). The leads can be connected directly to a trailer mounted battery or you can use the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, # BDW20207, to use the vehicle batteries. There are many different options to wire a winch. I have attached...

  • How to Determine if Winch is Strong Enough for a 1995 Maxum 2000 SR2
I looked up your 1995 Maxum 2000 SR2 and I believe that the dry weight of your boat is 2,700 lbs. Generally the weight capacity of a boat winch is 2:1 so your winch would be able to handle a 3,000 lb. If you have good rollers and a short distance to winch your boat you will increase the capacity of your winch but if you have wooden bunks and a long distance to winch your boat then that could change your weight capacity to a 1:1 ratio. In the case of the latter you will need a higher...

  • Recommended Winch for 6,000 Pound Boat on Trailer with Wooden Bunks
Generally speaking, boat-size-to-winch capacity is 2 to 1, meaning the capacity of the winch you are using should at least be 50 percent of your boat's weight. However, this ratio will be reduced if you are winching a longer distance or if the trailer, like yours, has carpeted wooden bunks. In your particular case, the ratio will be closer to 1 to 1. With this in mind, the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed 2 Speed Trailer Winch # FW32000101 referenced in your question, which has a capacity of...

  • Is Fulton F2 2-Speed 3200-lb-Rated Trailer Winch # FW32000101 Suitable for Boat Weighing 6000-lbs
Yamaha's 150-horsepower outboard engines F150LA and F150XA both have a dry weight just under 500-lbs, so a pair of these on your 4800-lb Scout Abaco will bring your total boat weight up to about 6000-lbs by the time you add fuel tanks, oil, etc. Winch capacities vary depending on the nature of how they will be used. Factors such as the type of bunks on your trailer (rollers versus carpeted bunks), the amount of incline, the length of the winch cable or strap all affect the actual working...

  • Comparison Between Fulton FW32000101 F2 and Two Speed F142424 Hand Winches
I'm not sure which winch you're wanting to compare to the # FW32000101 Fulton F2. Could you have meant the Fulton two speed, part # F142424? Both winches have a 3200 lb capacity, both use a 20 foot strap, and both have two speeds. The F2 has an enclosed spool that helps protect the strap from UV exposure while the two speed's spool is is exposed. Other than that, the differences between the two are cosmetic. The ideal ratio between boat weight and winch capacity is 2:1, so either...
