Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

After having our hitch installed on our 2020 Toyota Highlander Platinum that we bought on etrailer.com and after reading all the reviews for it we were very surprised at how it looked after and would like others to know so they don’t make the same mistake we did. DON’T go by reviews alone ( read the fine print ) in this case the words “visual cross tube” we missed and even after discussing with phone sales person stating how happy we’re going to be with the clean look…again just basing that on other reviews from people with the same year and model we were very disappointed with the overall result. Also the sensor for closing the lift gate by foot no longer worked as well and was a surprise also as many reviewers with same vehicle we’re reporting it did work. Get what you pay for I guess buyer beware.

Comments
Thank for your review. This Draw-Tite hitch for the 2020 Toyota Highlander does have a visible cross tube. If you would like a hidden cross tube, I recommend the Curt hitch part # C99FR that fits the 2020 Toyota Highlander as long as its not the XSE model. In regards to compatibility with the hands free liftgate feature, what we have found is that it will limit use to placing your foot on either side of the receiver tube but it should not completely restrict use.

This hitch is great and easy to install on your own.i just installed it took about 2 hours to complete using the video on the site. I definitely made a good choice!!

by:

smooth ordering. installation resources were helpful.

by:

holes didnt line up easly , lot of black paint chipping off. trailer hitch more visible than photo shows.

Comments
It sounds like that the hitch may have arrived flexed. I do have an FAQ that can help with installing a flexed hitch. I would also recommend using a rust resistant paint to prevent rust from occurring.

I was a little disappointed when I opened the box. There were several areas that the paint was chipped showing bare metal. I painted the spots to prevent rusting. I did call etrailer just to let them know. Better wrapping would solve this issue. The hitch did install without a (hitch) ha ha. Installed in less then one hour. It looks great on my SUV. Thanks etrailer.

  • Do Hybrid Models of 2017 Toyota Highlander Require Special Install Steps
We have hitches for the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid like the Draw Tite hitch part # DT65MR but they do not require any special install steps or adapters for the hybrid models like yours. I attached an install video that shows how the hitch will install for you to check out as well.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Highlander XLE that Allows Storage of Full Size Spare
I apologize for any confusion, but the Draw Tite hitch part # DT65MR is the hitch you would want for your 2016 Toyota Highlander if you have a full size spare and want to be able to keep it. The Curt hitch will not allow you to keep a full size spare.

  • 2014 Toyota Highlander 2 Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Carrying Bike Rack
Best option for your 2014 Toyota Highlander for a trailer hitch is the Draw Tite part # DT65MR. This will allow you to keep the full sized spare like you mentioned. Hidden Hitch and Draw Tite are the same but since Hidden Hitch is getting phased out I would recommend sticking with the brand that is sticking around. This will work well with your Thule Apex Swing bike rack too.

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Toyota Highlander
The Highlanders and Rav4s are different enough that they require different hitch fits. So for your 2017 Highlander you would want the Draw Tite part # DT65MR as it is our most popular option due to the price, the weight capacities and ease of install. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of Draw Tite Hitch # DT65MR
The tongue weight capacity of the Draw Tite hitch part # DT65MR that you referenced is 900 lbs which is higher than what you said your Highlanders specs are. What this means is that the vehicle's 500 lb tongue weight capacity would be the overall capacity since you have to go by the lowest rated component as the overall capacity.

  • Why do the Trailer Hitches for a 2015 Toyota Highlander Have Bends in the Crosstube
All of the hitches we carry for the 2015 Toyota Highlander like the # DT65MR have a slight bend in the crosstubes. This is so that the hitch can fit around the spare reasonably. Otherwise the hitch opening would be recessed further under the rear of the vehicle and would make removing the spare somewhat difficult if not impossible. I attached a picture that should help you see why the bends are there.

  • How to Tell if Trailer Hitch 2015 Toyota Highlander is Factory Tow Package Hitch or Aftermarket
One way would be to check out the hitch and see if you see any brand names like Curt, Reese, Draw Tite, Hidden Hitch etc. Another way would be to take the VIN to a Toyota dealer and let them run it to see if it has the tow package option. The label or sticker on the hitch will give you great clues though. If you see Toyota or anything like that then it would be a factory hitch and not an aftermarket hitch like the # DT65MR we offer for your vehicle that has an 8,000 lb capacity.

  • Is Draw Tite Hitch # DT65MR a Class III or Class IV Hitch
I would agree that the Draw Tite hitch part # DT65MR is more of a Class IV hitch based on it's capacities so I checked with Draw Tite and they have it listed as a Class III/IV in one place and Class IV in another. Since it's towing capacity is 6,000 lbs I would lean towards it being a Class IV. In general the Classifications are just a way to organize them by relative capacity. So it's always the most important thing to look at the actual capacity of the hitch compared to what you plan...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2018 Toyota Highlander
You want the best, because there can be only one. But the best depends on what you're using it for or what appeals to you. Basically, I've narrowed it down to two options, and they're both from Draw-Tite. The best for actual use is part # DT65MR because if you're using the hitch to tow a trailer it has a higher capacity than the other and it can be used with weight distribution which is good because you never know when that need could arise. Also, if you're going to be using the hitch...

  • What is Difference Between Draw Tite Hitches that Fit 2019 Toyota Highlander
The big difference between the Draw Tite # DT84MR and # DT65MR is that the # DT84MR is much more hidden since only the hitch opening hangs below the rear bumper. Because of that I think it's the obvious choice for your Highlander. I attached two pictures. The black Highlander has the more hidden hitch and the white one has the more visible one.
