Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2022 Toyota Highlander

Updated 03/19/2025 | Published 02/27/2025

Question:

I have a 2022 Toyota Highlander Platinum v6 non-hybrid. Thinking about buying the Curt C45CR. Does that fit w/o having to raise or lower the exhaust permanently? Also what wiring kit would you recommend that is the most plug and play with my 22 4-flat plug is fine. Thanks!

Hey Joseph! The Curt item # C45CR requires you to disconnect an exhaust hanger temporarily, but it gets reinstalled a couple steps later. It's just to get the hitch to the mounting bolts behind the muffler. This hitch is custom fit for the 2022 Toyota Highlander and fits all models including your Platinum.

For a 4-way wiring harness, you'll want the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness item # TK99FR. This custom fit harness plugs directly into the existing wiring of your Highlander without requiring any cutting or splicing.

I have linked installation videos below for both parts so you can see how to get them set up. What do you plan on using the hitch for?

I recommend using the No-Drill Mount Bracket item # 181316 and the item # C42CR to secure the 4-way connector to your hitch. This will put it in an easy to reach spot and prevent the risk of it falling onto the road.

Hi Jerred: The wiring mounting parts you recommend appear to be for a square tube hitch, not the round tube Curt I have. Not sure how to mount them or what etrailer would suggest I get instead, thanks! @JoeM Hey Joe welcome back! The hose clamp included with item # 18136 works on both square and round tube hitches. Once you get that tightened up it won't go anywhere.
