Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit RP50066 Review

Today were going to reviewing part number RP50066, this is the Reese Quick Install Custom Bracket Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches. Now the base rails and the installation hardware that are designed to sit in the bed and allow the installation of the fifth wheel trailer hitch that's all going to be sold separately with part number RP58058. You can find that right here etrailer.com. With part number RP50066 this is what you're going to get, you're going to get exactly what you see which is going to be the custom brackets and all the mounting hardware for your installation. You're also going to get a set of detailed instructions, they're going to walk you through step by step through the installation process. It's also going to tell you exactly what you need and hopefully be a guide to answer any questions that you have as well. The custom brackets are going to mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for your fifth wheel rails.

It is designed for Chevrolet and GMC 2500 and 3500 model pickups from 2011 and up with six and a half foot and eight foot beds. Now the vehicle's specific brackets are going to mount to the existing holes in your vehicles frame. It's going to have two holes on the side of each bracket, those are going to measure one three quarters of an inch in length by three quarters of an inch in height. The vehicle's specific brackets are great to have, it's actually going to minimize the amount of drilling and measuring that's required. It's also going to cut your installation time in half when compared to universal bracket systems. Now again the kits going to include the brackets and all the hardware that you need as well as some pull wires that thread on to the end of the carriage bolt to help pull those through the frame so that makes that a little bit easier. You're going to get the instructions, again those are very detailed walking you through step by step through the installation.

Then the brackets are made from steel construction, have a really nice black powder coated finish on them so they are designed to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP50066, this is the Reese Quick Install Custom Bracket Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches. .

They fit truck just like they were supposed too. Couple hr install with having to remove spare tire and heat shields to get access to bolt locations. Been supporting fifth wheel through thousands of miles. Thanks for helping me find right product for my truck!

by:

Great instructions and easy to do yourself. Great company

by:

These brackets fit real nice and easy. Finish seems very durable. Makes the universal brackets seem crude. I did get one square washer that had the hole so far off center that it was hard to get through the large access hole in the frame. I found it much easier to push some mechanics wire through the little hole in the frame to the big hole in the frame, then connect the mechanics wire to the pull wire with the bolt and pull this through the frame. Product arrived fast and I loved all the support documents on your website.

not a problem. good quality, good fit. even looks good.

by:

This worked as advertised and the apparatus to fish the bolts through the frame was great. I had to get my wife and her small hands under the truck to install the nuts on the vertical bolt over the gas tank because I couldn't get my big hands in there. This was a much better experience than when I built my own adapter!

It was so easy to install I hardly recall doing it. Perfect.

by:

So far haven't gotten installed yet.

by:

Well priced. Shipped quickly. Printed instructions, coupled with website video installations, made DIY very easy. Very simple setup, but a couple bolt areas were difficult to reach, and in my case, my wife was able to assist me to reach these areas. Total install took a few hours with minimal tools. Asked one question by e-mail and was answered next day prior to purchase.

Easy to follow instructions, install involved removing a factory heat shield, which wasnt easy, but was completed. Small hands made a hard to reach area easier to thread a nut onto a bolt, all other locations were easy to complete. No problems a year after install. Etrailer had been prompt, easy to contact by email prior to purchase, to verify product, and prompt shipping. Followed recommendation to additionally purchase all new bolt kit with these brackets.

by:

Thank you for the update. I do have a questions though. The hardware kit shown has carriage bolts the get put in from the inside out using the wire. My 2019 GMC 2500 has threaded holes to use. Did I order the correct adapter or do I need to purchase screws on my own for this? If so, what type and size should I get?

According to Reese, they do not offer a fifth wheel bracket kit at this time that would use the threaded holes you located. Because the # RP50066 is a fit for the 2019 Silverado 2500, Reese hasnt developed anything for those existing threaded attachment points. So, youll just want to continue on following the installation instructions, as there are existing holes that will allow you to install the brackets without drilling.

These are great brackets, well made, and will fit rails with 10 bolt or 4 bolt installations. I installed Curt rails(exact as Reese) and everything bolted up just as the instructions said. The reason I did not give them an excellent rating is because of the difficulty in the under bed installation. Somewhere I read that it was a 40 minute job for a pro and 80 for a DIY, but 5 hours later, I was done. Again, it is an issue with the new 2011 HD frame, but you must remove your spare so you have room to work, but the biggest pain was the heat deflector shields that GM has put above the exhaust system, right under the bed. There is no room to work, and taking the heat shields out looked to be very time consuming. I finally bent the shield enough to get the washers, locks and nuts on. Also, there is only about 2 inches to work between the top of the frame rail and bottom of the bed. You will need another person and a long screwdriver to be your other hand. The instructions say to torque all 1/2" bolts to 75 psi, but there is no way to get a socket, let alone a torque wrench in there.
Still a great product, just plan for an all day event.

It worked very well. I used it on a 1990 Chevy K2500, I believe it was for a later application but I drilled holes in the truck frame to match the brackets and it worked great. Thank you, Joe.

by:

This product fit great and saved hitch install time by at least one
hour. Would recommend these to anyone installing a 5th wheel
hitch.Made install real easy.

by:

This was an excellent product. I have put one in about 15 years ago that I bought from etrailer. The only difference this time was I had to cut out the heat shield on the passenger side above the exhaust. There was just no other way to do it. There was no way to bend it enough to get a wrench on the nuts. It took about 4.5 hours working by myself.

by:

Great company etrailer!! Great frame to bed rail brackets did not have to drill thru frame, holes lined up. Sierra HD 2500

by:

Worked great mounting my 5th wheel hitch rails

by:

It sure saved me a lot of time and drilling from the last time I used universal brackets. If this is your first time to install a hitch I would double the installation time. The bracket works great but reaching some of the bolts can be tough.

by:

These rails were a perfect fit and made the installation of my 5th wheel hitch a simple install. The instructions were very clear as well. My only advice is to lay all the parts out and align them up before drilling any holes. These rails will install on both sides of the truck but really are side specific.

by:

I agree with the other reviews, allow yourself extra time and patience when installing this kit. It fit perfectly without drilling any holes in my new truck frame. Some of the bolts are near impossible to catch. It took me about 3-4 hours to install. Find someone to help who has skinny arms and long fingers....anyone who has installed this will agree. I am glad I used this instead of the universal "L" brackets, it was well worth the effort.

by:

Thanks to the knowledgeable staff at etrailer I was made aware that there are such things as extended length rails, and they do not fit with frame brackets not designed for them . I chose to stay with my short rails {because they are lower} and purchased a set of frame brackets to fit them , they fit very well, a little challenging to reach the bed rail bolts , but fit great . Thanks !

by:

The product is excellent. I feel like my Reese 20k hitch is soild mounted to the frame now. Much better than the universal L brackets. Be patient installing them. It is not easy by any means.

Bryan

by:

Received my order quickly and the parts fit just as the technical department said they would. Brackets are of good quality and very please doing business with etrailer.

by:

They are just what I was expecting. After using these custom brackets on my last truck, there was no chance of me going back to using the universal "L" brackets. These are easier to install and provide a stronger set.

by:

Great price and arrived very quick will do business again.

by:

Been 1 year since parts were installed and everything is still working great, etrailer comes thru as always

by:

Bought these brackets for our 2012 GMC 3500HD. Fi great, no holes to drill in the frame, instuctions and all hardware was included in the kit.

by:

Karen was outstanding with customer service. Brackets arrived in 2 days. I haven't had time to open box up yet, but I'm confident Karen advised me on the correct product.
Thanks Karen!!

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Brackets for a 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500
No, they won't Dan but I have a set that will. The Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit item # RP50066 is the custom fit option for your 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500. If you are needing both the brackets and the rails you'll want the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches item # RP50066-58. These fit both bed lengths. Both of these kits are custom fit and install in pre-drilled holes in your Silverado's frame. I have linked an installation...

Hello Dale. If you are needing just a bracket kit for your Huskey 5th wheel rails, I suggest you use the B&W Custom Mounting Brackets # BWRVR2504. This will include everything you need to install your rails on your 2021 Chevy 1500 - frame brackets and hardware. This will work with any of the industry standard 5th wheel rails like Curt, Huskey, B&W, Demco and Reese. I like these B&W kits because they are all made here in the USA, and their pricing is generally lower than other equivalent...

  • Which 5th Wheel Base Rail Installation Kit for 2021 GMC Sierra 2500 with 6-3/4 Foot Bed
I have a solution for you, but the # RP50066 is not the correct bracket kit for your 2021 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali. Instead you'll need to use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Brackets for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP57FR, which are actually going to be easier to install because they're outboard mounting brackets so it's a great solution. If you need the base rails as well, you'll want the # RP84FR. I've linked a review and installation video of these for you to check out.
