Easy install on my 2024 Outback Wilderness. This is the 3rd hitch I have bought and installed from etrailer.
The hitch is very well built. Pretty easy to install. If you aren’t too familiar with taking off bumper fascia, use a second pair of hands, so you don’t scratch it. The final result looks good, most of the hitch is hidden nicely. The wiring kit was decent a little too short of a T connection. Would have been nice to have more length between the Curt harness connections on both the left and right sides.
Works great, relatively easy to install especially after watching you tube video, takes patience when removing panels on my 2025 Subaru Outback. I purchased this for a bike rack and it works as it should, easy to put rack on and to take it off.
Such easy installation! I allowed myself extra time, as I had no help, but had no problems. There were two screws and a hidden pin in each wheel well that were not mentioned in the video, but he did say trim lines may have differences.
Just done with install, I’ve had some experience with the front bumper on a 99’ and found this install straight forward. The videos nailed it, shipping was super fast and emails with each step. I think a strap or something to help the hitch from sliding around in the box would benefit the handlers, box had forklift fork holes and part of the hitch was outside the box(no damage and it’s behind the bumper) All in all would use e trailer again and recommend, looks nice installed
The hitch seems very heavy duty and installed according to directions…. Was very pleased with how everything worked and lined up however, if it was just 2 1/2 inches higher, it would be nearly identical to the factory hitch and give even more ground clearance! And then for the price I would’ve given it six stars??
It is hard to justify spending $550 on the factory hitch just for an additional 2 1/2 inches
Just got a new to us 2023 Subaru Outback. Right away went onto etrailer and ordered the Curt Trailer hitch and T-connector for the vehicle. etrailer had an excellent video on their website for both the hitch and wiring install. The video clearly showed the install. Even though I've got 45 years of mechanical experience, the video clearly showed me how to do it. I followed it to a T and the overall install time was about 90 minutes. The etrailer video for the wiring harness was actually better than the included instructions! Ordered everything on Thursday evening about 6pm with a expected Monday delivery. Surprised when everything arrived Saturday afternoon! WOW. skip Amazon and go with etrailer!
This was orderd for a 2024 Subaru Outback. I had just changed the hydrologic drive belt on a ZT lawnmower, and the installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver was by far the easier of the two tasks. The videos combined with the instruction sheet were very helpful. I really appreciate the included 2 fishing wires for the installation. It could be helpful if they would also include a drawn to scale printed template to use for the small section of the fascia that needs to be trimmed/cut.
Placed the order on Sunday afternoon, reciced an email that the order had been processed and the item was ready for shipping that same day. Hitch arrived on Wednesday. My wife is very pleased with her birthday present. Thank you to all the team etrailer!
The trailer works as expected and I have been happy with it. Installation was pretty easy and the directions were easy to follow. Taking the bumper off was the hardest part, but that is a Subaru challenge more than a hitch challenge

I am hard pressed to understand the 10/10 rating for installation difficulty. I would say 5/10 would even be overstated. Removing the fascia took less than 10 minutes and trimming the fascia was also very simple,and those were the steps I was most concerned about. Removing the bumper bar and bolting everything back together was very straightforward. My outback is the twin turbo model with dual exhaust so my biggest problem was getting to the two carriage bolts through the frame tubes to torque them as the mufflers were squarely in the way. After removing the two rubber hangers on each muffler (one at a time) I was able to push the mufflers UP and out of the way and properly torque the bolts. Probably not an issue for many installations but it would have been nice for that to have been touched on in the installation video. The whole process was easily completed in a morning.
Arrived very quick. Time consuming process but not difficult. Online video was helpful. A second person is not necessary but makes it easier. Dimensions for the trim cut out are accurate but the picture does not tell you exactly where to start your cut. I prefer a measurement vs "looks like you start cutting about here". Measure twice, cut once.
purchased a similar one for my previous outback and that one held up very well. I have a bike rack that requires a 2" receiver. and may look into getting a kayak trailer. Love that you only see the receiver.

5 stars, so far. The hitch seems well made and fit perfectly on my 2025 Outback. The included instructions were fine, but not great. i didn't downgrade for that because there are plenty of resources online to help with installation. Etrailer offers videos, and a large national trailer rental company also has really nice instructional videos for installing hitches and wiring harnesses. Installation was rated as difficult, but it's not too bad with good instructions, proper tools, and a little mechanical aptitude. Time will tell how the hitch and finish hold up.

After one year and very limited use, the hitch still looks great, although its mostly hidden, and it worked fine. While it doesnt really pertain to the hitch, heres some bonus content: I discovered that towing a golf cart on a trailer on the highway with my 4 cylinder Outback cost me about 10mpg.
Completed installation on 2025 Subaru Outback Limited. Installation time: 1 hour 45 minutes. Perfect fit!
For DYI'ers this is not difficult, take your time during disassembly of bumper cover and you will not have issues. I removed the taillights first because it was very easy and it provided better visibility to the bumper cover clipping points around the taillights when removing the bumper cover.
Installed on a 2025 Subaru Outback Premium.
First things first, the provided videos were excellent for installing this thing, except for the exhaust. I wish there was more visuals for this.
A few things:
When removing the fasteners along the wheel well, take pictures of the layout. Knowing the black fabric goes on the inside was golden knowledge when I was later reattaching the fasteners.
When installing the carriage bolt, if you're having issues threading it through, you can bend the wire. You may have to unbend it though when you try to pull the bolt through. I was able to reuse the wire on the right side, but had to pull it off on the left side. Glad there's two.
Torquing the left carriage bolt was an entire endeavor and probably the most exhausting part of this. You need to remove the isolators, but without the exact right fit, I kept slipping.
Even with the isolators removed, the exhaust kept going to the right, pushing my torque wrench and preventing me from doing it correctly.
I eventually ratcheted it down to the left to keep it in place to finally have a good angle at the thing.
The fasteners are annoying to take out and place back in. I recommend using the pry tool and another small pry tool to wrangle each one out. Each one has a internal piece and an outer piece. I had best success with separating them, pushing the outer part in, then the inner piece.
I used Inkscape to design a page with the correct sizing. After cutting, there's about an 1/8" gap, which is great.
I used a Dremel rotary metal cutter to cut it out, then ground it down a bit.
Very easy to install very clean and clear videos no complaints whatsoever of this product.
2026 Subaru Outback Touring XT. The installation of the Curt Hitch #C67JR went smooth, no issues. It was a fairly easy install with basic hand tools however,it was time consuming (about 4hrs). The fit and finish is excellent and the shipping container was well packaged, no damage.
Excellent quality, fit perfectly in place. Little nervous about dismantling the rear my new Outback (and my wife was more nervous still), but the video was very clear and complete. Only oddity was the bolts I took out to remove the bumper frame had 17mm head and the bolts supplied to replace them needed 11/16” wrench. Still, all parts needed were there, and the fish wires (I only needed one) were phenomenal, making what would have been the most frustrating part of the job almost comically simple.

I enjoyed the e-mails from Amy!! She kept me informed of my shipment . The hitch arrived very quickly. My son installed it following the instructions. He had no problem.
This hitch receiver is sturdy and it works like it's supposed to. I use it for my Kuat 2-bike rack for hauling mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The installation process was pretty easy to follow from the instructional video by the manufacturer. After 1 year of use, the black powder coat finish is still intact.

Glad it's still looking good and working well for you, Michael! What kind of bikes do you ride? My family was always riding GT back in the day and we had some pretty good rides we did in the mountains of Southern California.
Clean install on 2021 Outback. Very clean look and fit very well. Couple of notes:
You can snake the carriage bolts though the tubes in the hitch easier than the frame access holes.
When you cut the underside of the number cover for clearance drill 3/8” holes at the corners and then cut the plastic to the holes leaving the outer curve of the hole intact. Square corners can create dress risers where the plastic can crack easier.
Very satisfied with the hitch and the customer service, would order from trailer again in a heartbeat.

Installed on a 2026 Subaru Outback Premium.
Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Total time to install was about 75 minutes and was easily done by one person.
Installing the hitch did require cutting the removable trim piece of the bumper. The cut is not visible and is about 2.5 inches square.
I also installed the C59236 Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector.
etrailer is excellent as an online retailer for auto parts. I’m disappointed that my Curt hitch didn’t precisely line up with the holes on my base model 2020 Subaru Outback. I had to make slight refinements to the factory holes with a dremel. The videos show a higher trim model than mine, so I’m guessing that maybe this was the issue. It was close enough, but slightly annoying.

So far, so good. The trailer still fits tight. There’s no rattle, rust, or chipped paint. We use it primarily to hold a Yakima bike rack that holds four bikes. All is well a year later.
