Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock

Today we're going to be taking a look at Curt's hitch lock for two-inch and two and a half-inch hitches. This hitch pin's going to be great for protecting your accessories. Most accessories don't come with locking pins and many don't even come with a pin at all. Well this way you can ensure that your gears going to stay safe and protected attached to your vehicle. The hitch pin attaches to the barrel style lock. It's a nice thick stainless steel, so it's going to be heavy duty and durable. Anybody that tries to take this off, is going to be spending way too much time out here that they're going to draw away too much attention and they're just going to hit the road.

On the end of the lock you have a watertight dust cap. This is going to keep out any moisture, dirt, and debris, ensuring a long lasting smooth operation of your lock.Once you insert your key, you can turn the key to unlock the barrel and it comes off. You'll see here on the inside that it has a rubber gasket that keeps any moisture, dirt and debris out of the inside of the tumbler as well, making it nice and smooth when putting it back on.With this particular style lock, you do have to unlock it first, then slide it on and then you can lock it again with the key. The hitch pin has a three and five-eighths inch span, which is going to be great for two and two and a half-inch hitches. This also includes your class three, four and class five hitches. When you're ready to install it, simply take the pin side, slide it through your hitch and whatever accessory you have in it.

Then you'll want to unlock the tumbler, slide it on and lock it down. You can finish by closing your dust cap. It's not only great for your accessories such as your cargo carriers and bike racks, but also for your ball mounts so you can keep those safe as well as your trailer that's attached to it.The pin comes with two keys for convenience. This way you can keep one with you and keep one at home for safekeeping. Many customers on our website compared Curt's hitch pin to Tow Ready's hitch pin and they both are three and a half-inch span hitch pins and they're both going to do pretty much the same job.One of the biggest differences though is that our Curt here is going to be stainless steel, so it's going to withstand the elements much better than just the chrome plated finish that the Tow Ready has.And that completes our look at Curt's hitch lock for two inch and two and a half-inch hitches.

Fit is perfect for a 2.5” receiver.

by:

Works well; only requires 1/4 turn of the key to operate. Stainless construction means it will last a very long time.

by:

perfect for easy securement of hitch attachment. Lock dust cover is a must especially for locations that are susceptible to road debris.

by:

Good quality, much nicer than the chromed steel hitch pins that always end up rusting. Also, A+ to eTrailer for re-shipping this order after the first one got lost by the mail.

by:

Overall I am very pleased with my ETrailer experience. Everything was pretty straightforward and my products came within a reasonable timeframe. My only suggestion to ETrailer is maybe to package the expensive products in a outer box. The product that I ordered was on the pricy side of things and I came home to see my expensive product sitting infront of my driveway, open to anyone driving past it. A criminal or an opportunistic person who understood the value of that product would definitely pose a concern. Other than that, this is a fabulous online store.

by:

Works great. Thank you!

by:

The product is just as described, but more importantly the customer service is outstanding. In an age where you can find the same products across multiple websites, etrailer stands above all with their great customer service. Follow through and helpful information makes etrailer a great resource not just another online vendor. For this reason I don't waste time web surfing and instead go right to etrailer every time.

by:

It's a shame we have to think about security so much. Since that's the case?? This is a great little invention!!

by:

Got my order in more than a timely manner. Worked with Rochelle who was great!

Had 3 items shipped to a fishery I was staying at on the Oregon coast. A bike rack, a bumper mount and a locking pin. The rack and the mount showed up as scheduled but the pin was lost in shipping. As it turns out the pin was not compatible with the Pro bike rack which I was told it was. I'm glad the other two pieces arrived and work fine and the pin is what got lost. etrailer is to refund the pin price and were very friendly about it.

by:

I hate this lock. Why? Because it requires three hands to operate it, and so it's incredibly difficult to install it by yourself. You need one hand for the key, another hand to hold the lock end, and a third hand to push the non-locking end tight against the receiver. I had a locking pin then went with a trailer I sold, and I wish I knew which brand it was, so I could get another.

by:

Love my new hitch for my 2019 Toyota Rav Adventure. At first, I didn’t think it would slide between bumper and exhaust system, but it did. My wife helped hold one side while a car jack was used to lift hitch into position. I used a rubber mallet to get into position to install bolts. About a half hour later, hitch installed! Only concern was when delivered, the box was split open and the hitch was sliding out. Thankfully, no damage, bump step and locking pin were still inside box and hitch bolts were taped inside receiver, otherwise they would have been long gone!

by:

Do not purchase this product. I ordered it and it lasted maybe 4 months. I went to remove it to switch it out and it was corroded and wouldn’t unlock and beat it off with a hammer. Then I called etrailer to ask about a warranty or replacement and they informed me that they don’t have a warranty on this.

The key to prevent corrosion with aftermarket products are to lubricate them often and remove them when not in use. Here are some more tips about prevention:

by:

Everything I ordered as an investment into my trailering needs is of super high quality and arrived in a few days.

by:

good service

by:

Can’t speak for durability yet since I just received it but seems to be a quality product which I expect it to be. Fits perfect on a 2011 GMC 2500HD receiver hitch.

Still works great no problems at all.

by:

Just received / installed the lockable hitch pin... just what I expected... exactly as described. Happy so far with my purchase. If it stands up to our NE Pennsylvania Winter weather with the snow and salt used on the roads without rusting, I'll be absolutely thrilled!

Some rust and corrosion inside and out, difficulty unlocking it so I cleaned it and loaded it with lithium grease inside hoping to combat the moisture that gets in and causes the corrosion

by:

So far so good. I could only line up two bolts to my wheel pattern but used a fender washer to secure the third. Overall, I would recommend this product.

by:

We had a family emergency so we just had an OEM hitch with a 2" receiver installed on a Toyota Highlander on Tuesday at Toyota in NC to tow a 6'x12' U-Haul back to NYC on Friday. We needed a secure stainless steel hitch pin and this fits the bill. It came quick as requested. Etrailer has the best products and service!

by:

Excellent product plus a perfect fit. etrailer always comes thru and I would never go to another vendor.

  • Can I Carry A Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Or Cargo Carrier With My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
Great news! We do offer a a hitch for your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. I recommend the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch part # C13383 because the 2" hitch will be the most versatile when it comes to accessories like bike racks. There are more options to fit the 2" hitch compared to the 1-1/4" hitch. The Curt 2" hitch is a glossy black powder no drill-installation hitch that can handle up to 400 lbs of tongue weight. If you prefer a matte black option for a more rugged look,...

  • Availability Of Replacement Keys For A Curt Hitch Lock
Hello Mark. The only way to get replacement keys for a Curt 23518 hitch lock is if you happen to know they key number. The problem with this is the key number is printed on the key itself, so unless you happen to have the key number written down somewhere, you are out of luck. The only option would be to find a way to forcibly remove the lock. Either cut it off with a grinder or drill out the lock core until it comes off. Then you will need to replace it with a new one. I do have a locking pin that will work for your Roadmaster Hitch Spare Tire Mount # RM-195225, but the etrailer D-Shape Anti-Rattle Locking Hitch Pin # e43JR will not work with that. The # e43JR is a D-shaped pin designed specifically for the Benton brand bike racks and carriers which all have a D-shaped pin hole. Before resorting to cutting off the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519 I recommend first trying to clean out what might be preventing the lock from working. You may need to repeat this process a few times. If this still doesn't work then the easiest option will be to try and drill the lock cylinder out....
