Question:

Hi, I am having difficulty getting a tow hitch for my 2018 Chrysler pacifica hybrid. I cant find the tow capacity in the manual. Can a tow hitch be installed on my vehicle? If so, which one? I just wanted to put a bike carrier and maybe small cargo carrier.

Great news! We do offer a a hitch for your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

I recommend the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch part # C13383 because the 2" hitch will be the most versatile when it comes to accessories like bike racks. There are more options to fit the 2" hitch compared to the 1-1/4" hitch. The Curt 2" hitch is a glossy black powder no drill-installation hitch that can handle up to 400 lbs of tongue weight.

If you prefer a matte black option for a more rugged look, I recommend etrailer.com Class III hitch part # e98903 which is the same tongue weight rating and installation as the Curt but has a matte black finish compared to the glossy finish.

I was able to find the owner's manual for the Hybrid and trailer towing is not permitted with this vehicle however, you can carry accessories in the hitch like you mentioned as long as you do not exceed the vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating which is labeled on a sticker affixed to your driver's side door or pillar. As long as the weight of driver, passengers, curb weight of vehicle and cargo (bike rack/bikes/cargo carrier/cargo) does not exceed the number that is listed you can carry bikes or a cargo carrier. Please keep in mind the weight of the biker rack or cargo carrier itself needs to be calculated into that number. From my research the curb weight of the Pacifica is 4,330 lbs.

For a small hitch cargo carrier, I recommend the 19x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches in aluminum part # C18100 because it only weighs 29 lbs compared to other steel carriers that can weigh up to 50 lbs or more. The lightweight construction makes it easier to lift up and pin into the hitch. The folding feature is also nice because you can fold it up against the Pacifica when you are not using it. I also recommend a locking pin part # C23519 to lock the carrier to the hitch.

If you are carrying clothes or cargo you do not want to get wet, I recommend Curt Waterproof Cargo Bag for the cargo carrier part # C18210 that includes tie downs so you can secure the bag to the carrier.

This is great info. I have a 2018 Pacifica hybrid and I'm looking to tow four bikes... 2 adult, 1 teen and 1 child. Which bike rack would you recommend? Thank you!

For a good family rack I really like the Thule Apex XT # TH9025XT. It features uniquely large spacing between the cradles that will really help loading up all your different sized bikes. Locks are also included to help secure your investments.
