Availability Of Replacement Keys For A Curt Hitch Lock

Updated 06/23/2025 | Published 04/01/2024

Question:

I have a CURT 23518 but have lost the key and its unfortunately attached to the car. Is there a way to get a replacement key?

Hello Mark. The only way to get replacement keys for a Curt 23518 hitch lock is if you happen to know they key number. The problem with this is the key number is printed on the key itself, so unless you happen to have the key number written down somewhere, you are out of luck. The only option would be to find a way to forcibly remove the lock. Either cut it off with a grinder or drill out the lock core until it comes off. Then you will need to replace it with a new one. We do not carry the 23518 but we do have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519 which is the stainless-steel version.

@Peter Not that I am aware of. If yours is in need of replacement you will just need a whole new locking pin.

@Mathieu Hel Mathieu. It doesn't look like we ever heard back from Mark here but if your lock is attached to the car and the keys are gone the only option would be to drill out the lock core until it releases, or to cut the pin off with a hacksaw or angle grinder. Or get creative and find another fun way to remove it.
