Video Transcript for 1-7/8" Hitch Ball: The Breakdown

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Draw-Tite's one and seven eighths inch hitch ball with a three quarter inch shank. This ball is designed to work with both Class I and Class II hitches. With a maximum towing capacity of 2000 pounds, that makes it perfect for our Class I trailer here that also accepts a one and seven eighths inch ball. We can just slide it down on there and it snaps in place keeping it nice and secure. This ball mount is going to be ideal for small utility trailers like this for if you just need to get some things moved around or maybe you're helping a buddy move and you just need to have some extra space. And it's also great for recreational activities like hauling around some dirt bikes or possibly some small jet skis or ATVs.

Our ball is constructed of a cold forged steel with a chrome plating to give it a nice appearance and also to protect it against corrosion. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it mounted up onto your ball mount. Now that you got your ball, you are going to need a ball mount for it. You'll want to choose one with the appropriate drop that matches your trailer so you'll have a nice level towing experience. That'll just provide better tongue weight and transitioning of the weight onto your vehicle. We'll now need to take our ball, we're going to put it in our ball mount.

You'll want to choose if you want it in the drop or rise position. We're going to be placing ours in the rise position, so that way when it's in our trailer, it raises it up. Place the included lock washer on the back, followed by the nut. We'll then want to clamp our ball into our vice here. And then we can tighten it down to the specifications included with your ball. When you're ready to use the ball mount, you simply slide it into your one and a quarter inch receiver matching up the hole with the ball mount in the hole in the hitch.

We'll then take the included half inch hitch pin and clip to secure it to our receiver. And we're now ready to attach our trailer to it. And that completes our look at Draw-Tite's one and seven eighths inch hitch ball with a three quarter inch shank.

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Sedan
For your 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Sedan, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C34UR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Corolla with included hardware. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a 2,000 lbs towing capacity and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. This is the highest capacity hitch available for your car. I have linked an installation video below along with a picture so you can see what this hitch looks like installed. If you are planning on towing...

  • Trailer Coupler Will Not Release Hitch Ball Even After Lubrication
I see you have tried the usual fixes for a coupler that won't release the hitch ball - moving the vehicle slightly to potentially release excess tension on the ball, lubrication with WD-40 and even a little brute force with the pry bar. You can also first make sure the trailer is supported, and then remove the hitch pin from the ball mount and move the truck forward. This will ensure there is little or no tension on the ball/coupler. This will also give you more room to work and free up...

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2024 Kia Forte
To add a hitch to your 2024 Kia Forte, I recommend the Curt item # C55HR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Kia with included hardware. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a 2,000 lbs towing capacity and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. I really like the Curt Hitch item # C55HR because the crosstube mounts behind your rear bumper leaving only the 1-1/4" receiver exposed. This not only looks better but it helps with ground clearance which is important with a...

We have not had a chance to install this hitch on a vehicle like your 2009 Volvo S40, but I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said the majority of this trailer hitch will not be visible. The top of the receiver will sit flush with the bottom of your bumper fascia. He did mention that you may be able to see the bottom part of the mounting arms that extend just past the crossbar on both sides. I have attached installation instructions for you to check out. • How Tight Should Trailer Coupler Be on Hitch Ball
A little bit of play is acceptable, the coupler should be tight enough that the coupler won't come off the ball, but not so tight you can't close the latch. I typically tighten the coupler up until I feel a slight resistance when closing the coupler latch, then I'll back it off slightly from there. Reese sells a white lithium grease that's conveniently packaged for use on hitch balls, part # 58117.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for a 2020 Toyota Corolla
We actually do have a trailer hitch for your 2020 Toyota Corolla Sedan! It is the Class I Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24983 and it has a 1-1/4" hitch receiver. You did refer to this as a tow hitch so if you planned on using this trailer hitch for towing you also need some wiring and a ball mount kit. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118810 for wiring because of how reliable it is and that it bypasses your OEM wiring so you know your vehicle is protected. For a ball mount...

  • Can a 2009 Pontiac Vibe Safely Tow a 1,500 Pound Boat Trailer
Since you would be right at capacity I do recommend taking any measures feasible in lightening the load. That will make it that much easier on the vehicle. I do believe that properly equipped, the 2009 Pontiac Vibe will be fine towing the 1,500 pounds. Since you will not constantly be towing it up a steep ramp, and that aspect is only a small part of the journey, the Vibe should be just fine. For a trailer hitch, you can use # C12221 but it is for GT models. If you have a GT model then...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible
There is a confirmed fit for a 2012 Chrysler 200 convertible and it is Curt Hitch # C11133. The Draw-Tite hitch is not yet a confirmed fit. The Curt hitch comes with the correct ball mount, hitch pin, and clip. For a ball you can use # 19256 for 1-7/8 inch diameter or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter. For trailer wiring, use the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56211. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the hitch and for the wiring harness for you.
