Video Transcript for Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball Review

Today, we're going to review part number 19258. This is a 2-inch hitch ball with a 3/4 inch shank from Tow Ready. This is our hitch ball right here. You obviously get the hitch ball, lock washer and a nut. You also get this label which actually tells you your torque specifications of whatever you're going to install it onto. One thing I want to point out is when you install a hitch ball, every now and then you'll see the tag left on there.

Don't do that. Aside from looking tacky, this actually can crush over time and whole hitch ball can loosen up from the lock nut, so always take this off. You always want to install this in a ball mount with a 3/4 inch hole. There are bushings that you can fit in there with that, but this actually still gives it room to move around and potentially loosen up. Try to use the same matching hole as the hitch ball. This ball is ready to have 3,500 pounds and this is the diameter, that's 2 inches.

Always use a decoupler that requires a 2 inch ball. The 2 and 8th inch, this will pop off, so don't use it with that, it's a style coupler. Obviously not much to it. Has a chrome finish. Let's put it in a typical installation. In this case, we're using a light duty hitch, a class 1.

Typically, we're going to mount in an up position like this, or a raised position. Simply put your lock washer nut into place, run the nut down, and then tighten it up. Let's put it into our hitch of our car and we'll tighten it down. I'll show you a little trick in tightening these down. We're actually going to put our ball mount in sideways.

That way, we can get leverage on our tool to go down to the ground. We'll go ahead and snug it up with a regular ratchet and a 1 and 8th inch socket. We'll take our slack, then we're going to use a pipe wrench on these flats right here on the ball. Put your wrench on the flats right here. That way you won't mess up the finish on the ball itself. You'll notice that we also have our pipe wrench on the ground. We'll put our torque wrench on and finish torquing the nut. We're constantly pushing down, we won't have to worry about the ball mount sliding out. Take your pipe wrench off. Then, we'll put our ball mount in correctly. Now our ball is ready for service to pull a trailer. That will finish it for our review of our hitch ball with 2-inch diameter and a short shank ready for 3,500 pounds tongue weight. Part number 19258, from Tow Ready. .

Being completely clueless and brand new to the towing/trailer world, I ordered mismatched parts. Roger R immediately reached out to me to ensure I had what I needed to properly install my hitch. I'm completely impressed with the customer service and affordability of etrailer.com and will recommend it to anyone... now to just get the parts installed and go get on the water!! 860421

Everyone said that they never saw one on a Mercedes-Benz, let alone, a convertable. This is my father's 1965 sailboat and 1965 Sears trailer. The car is a 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 450. I had not sailed the boat since 1977. I have the license plate from the trailer to prove it. The dealer who sold me the car had never put a hitch on a car. After he saw the trailer attached to the car, he offered me a job. I turned it down, but I told him if he ever got a request, I would help him with it. Thanks for everything. 854444

Quick. Fair Price. Excellent Communication. First, we ordered the hitch and had it installed. Then we needed the perfect fit for the task at hand: to pull a tank with gray water through a campground. Very specific. Just for our toad, a Smart car. Etrailer.com has the perfect software to lead you to what you need for the perfect combination. Quick shipment, reasonably priced. Direct communication for every step in the process. All in all, exactly what you’d hope for during these extremely dysfunctional time. 851673

The hitch is perfectly fine. Very solid and fit appropriately. However, what I didn't reallize is that the mounting shelf on my mower wouldn't support much weight. I have a John Deere D100 and the mounting tray where I attach my utility cart and other tools will not support the tongue weight for my boat - or even a small (5' x 9') empty utility trailer. It's a fairly thin piece of sheet metal on the mower and bends immediately as weight is applied. 812230

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Ball

  • Is there an Adapter to Fit a Hitch Ball with 1 Inch Diameter Shank in a 1-1/4 Ball Hole
All you will need is a mushing # 58184 that will allow you to use the 1 inch ball shank in the 1-1/4 inch diameter hole on your weight distribution head. If you instead decide to get a new ball you can use # 19286.

If you are buying a new ball such as # 19258 then its thread pitch doesn't matter because it comes with a compatible nut. This ball has 16 threads per inch which is about 0.05 inches from the top center of one thread to the top center of the next.

  • Does Maximum Towing Weight Listed On A Trailer Hitch For A Toyota Prius Mean It Can Tow That Amount
When you install a hitch like the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24847, on a 2011 Toyota Prius it does not mean that your vehicle can now tow 2,000 lbs. That is just the maximum towing weight capacity for that hitch. If the vehicle that the hitch it goes on has a lower towing weight capacity, then the lowest weight capacity is what is used as the maximum towing weight capacity for your towing setup. You will want to check your owners manual or with the Toyota dealer for the...

We need to get you a ball mount that will allow your tow dolly to be towed at the correct height. • Can Trailer Ball Hole in Towing Bumper Be Enlarged to Accommodate a 2-5/16 inch Trailer Ball
I wouldn't recommend doing that, as it will reduce the structural integrity of the bumper. Most towing bumpers are only rated for 3500 lbs, and a trailer that would use a 2-5/16 ball is typically heavier than that. You'd want to use the receiver hitch shown in your photo, rather than mounting a ball in your bumper.

The ball size you need will be dictated by the coupler on the trailer. Take a good look at the top of the coupler. The necessary ball size should be stamped on the coupler itself. The 1-7/8 inch balls come with various shank diameters with 1 inch like part # 19260 or 3/4 inch like part # 19256 being the most popular. You will want to choose a trailer ball whose shank diameter matches the diameter of the...

  • Is There a Ball Larger Than 2 Inch Diameter For Class II Trailer Hitch
The largest ball they make for Class II hitch is 2 inch. There are not any bigger sizes because the Class II hitch would not be able to handle the weight even if the ball is rated to handle more weight. There are bigger ball sizes larger than 2 inch available for higher class hitches because those hitches can handle more weight, and a higher rated ball is used in some applications.
