Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 19258

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff from etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt 2" Chrome Hitch Ball. It has a 3,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball will provide the connection point for your trailer's coupler. This is a durable steel construction.

Has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it. It does uses the fine threads here on the shank, provide exceptionally tight, strong grip. If you notice on the flange portion, these flat sections on each end, those are built in wrench flats, make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening the nut. Does include the lock washer and the nut. Few specs again, the ball diameter is 2 inches.

The weight capacity, which will be stamped on the top is 3,500 pounds. Now, I do want to give you a few critical dimensions that you want to be aware of. When you go to purchase a hitch ball, you do want to have some measurements to make sure it'll fit your ball mount. One of them's going to be the diameter of the shank. The diameter on this one is going to be right at 3/4 of an inch. The length of the shank, which is from the bottom of the flange to the end, is going to be right at 1 1/2 inches long.

This one is designed to fit ball mount platforms with a 3/4 inch diameter ball hole, and that fits the ball mount platform thickness of 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch thick. Now, the height of this, once this is installed from the bottom of the flange to the top of the ball, it's going to be right at 2 3/4 inches. When you do go to install this you'll drop this through the hole in your ball mount, take your lock washer, put it on, take your nut, and then go ahead and tighten it down. Then you'll torque it to the specs that are recommended for this application. Now, it does require a installation...

Or the installation for this nut requires a socket size of 1 1/8 inch diameter. But that should do it for the review on the Curt 2" Chrome Hitch Ball with the 3,500 pound gross towing weight capacity.

The packaging could have been better. There was also a drawbar along with this ball, in the same box. These two parts are very heavy and it appears that the ball knocked off a lot of paint from the drawbar, so I have no way to know if the drawbar was a wrecking yard pull or actually new. There wasn't really anything added to the inside of the shipping box to prevent items from moving around. The other items did just fine because they were inside plastic clamshell packaging, and are very flexible. I doubt that standard foam peanuts would hold up to the weight of the ball & drawbar, something a bit more aggressive would be needed, like zip-tying those two parts to a packboard, or sprayfoam-filled bags. Otherwise, the ball is very nice. I didn't happen to notice on the website but it's made by Drawtite

I'm so grateful for the help and expertise I received from the folks at etrailer, and for the great quality products. My wife and I will be driving across the country as part of a move and we needed to be able to pull a trailer behind our small SUV. Justin at etrailer figured out exactly what we needed in a single, simple phone call and all the materials were at my door in just a couple days. A service station down the street helped with installation and we are good to go. (And my hitch also works with my bike rack!) A truly excellent experience.

Now I can tow my teardrop trailer or put on my bike rack. etrailer made it easy for adapting my Scion for towing.

Rcvd my hitch today (one day earlier than predicted by etrailer when I ordered...well done!). Everything was received as expected/requested. Crawled under the car and started installation immediately. Piece of cake really; although some people would struggle with the tight space, 13 year old car, and need to clean threads, and remove caulk/undercoat in order to achieve "hole alignment". Hyundai also did a great job by having pre-threaded welded nuts in place. So far.... a great product received in time to use this weekend (as was my plan). Great job and great product by etrailer. Also, the website was easy to use and the videos quite helpful. I will be back! Thank you, 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Everyone said that they never saw one on a Mercedes-Benz, let alone, a convertable. This is my father's 1965 sailboat and 1965 Sears trailer. The car is a 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 450. I had not sailed the boat since 1977. I have the license plate from the trailer to prove it. The dealer who sold me the car had never put a hitch on a car. After he saw the trailer attached to the car, he offered me a job. I turned it down, but I told him if he ever got a request, I would help him with it. Thanks for everything.

Quick. Fair Price. Excellent Communication. First, we ordered the hitch and had it installed. Then we needed the perfect fit for the task at hand: to pull a tank with gray water through a campground. Very specific. Just for our toad, a Smart car. Etrailer.com has the perfect software to lead you to what you need for the perfect combination. Quick shipment, reasonably priced. Direct communication for every step in the process. All in all, exactly what you’d hope for during these extremely dysfunctional time.

Install videos online are extensive if you have some knowledge of working with tools it's easy, I have a 2012 mk6 GTI. Towed a trailer within my weight specs of course. From Houston --> Phx Arizona. I use the hitch and ball all the time for small projects super happy with its high quality and a year later is when they asked for this review. Wow, great company who does that? Oh, a company that cares about quality probably. Now specifically for this ball and shank well it fit with the trailer hitch and they are both amazing.

The hitch was well made and relatively easy to install. I installed it on a 2016 Golf Sportwagen LE. I can confirm that as others have stated that I did NOT need to trim the bumper fascia (as the instructions said I would need to). I separated the black, lower part of the fascia from the top part before reinstalling the main fascia. I was then able to snap the lower part on after fitting it around the hitch chain loops. A couple of other notes: the LE has the rear cross traffic alert. The sensors are bolted on each side of the bumper. I thought with the additional thickness of the sensors that the bolts might not be long enough but they fit fine. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the torx screws in the wheel wells have very little clearance. I highly recommend getting a torx racquet set. I bought one at a hardware store for about $20 (Kobalt 24-Piece Standard (SAE) and Metric Mechanic's Tool Set with Hard Case). This makes the removal of those screws straight-forward.

I purchased the Ball and 1.25” tow hitch draw bar. Both items are solid and fit well. I plan to tow a pop up camper and small trailer.

Customer service was amazing. I ordered this for my business and etrailer immediately called me after I had ordered the wrong ball size. Simultaneously, another customer relations personnel reached out via email to confirm I had meant to order the ball. Cant say enough of how easily they solved an issue before it turned into a problem. Installed hitch the day it arrived, less than 30 min with the help of their instructions and an install video.

Great prices, fast service, best selection. What else could you ask for. I always check etrailer for my trailer parts.

The short shank of this ball is great for an ATV going to off road because it give more ground clearance, so it’s less likely to hang in stumps or rocks in the forest. I use it with my LogRite ATV Arch, with my wood splitter, and for transporting maple water to my sugar house to produce maple syrup.

Steve performed 'above & beyond' the call of duty to ensure that I received the correct parts, on time. His thoroughness & commitment to excellence are COMMENDABLE!

- 19258
by:

Price was good, plating is showing rust after only a few exposures to rain, and 5 trailer towings, with only 1 being with the boat on it, but it was 350 miles, the other uses were around town, Home DePot to pick up wood the trailer could carry, bring some furniture to a rental property 45 minutes away. It is a trailer hitch ball, so I would buy it again.

I wouldn't recommend doing that, as it will reduce the structural integrity of the bumper.
