The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The circuit board is sealed, which means that water will not damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we're taking a look at the Peterson Piranha LED red clearance or side marker light. This rectangular trailer light functions as both a clearance light and a side marker light for your trailer. Has a nice sealed design so it does a great job at keeping out dirt and moisture. It's an LED unit so it makes a great replacement for incandescent lights. LED's, they last longer, they burn brighter, they're more efficient. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. It mounts on the surface of a trailer with a bracket. Your bracket is sold separately.
It's available at etrailer.com and then it accepts the female marker light plug from Peterson, which is also sold separately and available at etrailer.com.It's Department of Transportation compliant. When it comes to the measurements of the unit, take a look at that and then we'll hook it up to power. We're looking at about three, and if we're going edge to edge, we're looking at about three and 13/16ths of an inch. Edge to edge going in this direction it's about an inch and a quarter, and the depth, just measuring the actual lens and housing area, it's about 13/16ths of an inch deep. All right, we'll go and hook it up to power. Turn off our our overhead lights so you can see it in a low light setting.
So you can see here, it sends out a really nice clear, consistent signal. It has a multi diode design, so that means that it has four LED's. So the multi diode design really helps optimize the overall light output. It's a very bright design, very visible, nice and easy to see.I do want to point out that the rated input voltage for this unit is nine volt to 16 volt DC.That's going to do it for today's look at the Peterson Piranha LED red clearance or side marker light.
