Excellent, easy fit! "Reverse fishwire 1/2" bolts" instructions confused me for a while. Ballmount was not properly packaged. It was somewhat loose inside the box and knocked paint off both itself and the hitch. And......There is NO WAY I can figure out how to torque down the rear carriage bolts. It is impossible to use a torque wrench, even with an extension. The design of both the hitch and the Impreza does not allow this. Perhaps an access hole could be drilled in your hitch to allow this. I'm ready to attach bike carrier and search for a good bike trail. P.S. I installed this myself. In hindsight a 2nd pair of hands would have made the job even easier.

Recieved yesterday installed today. Only issue I didn't like were the square spacer blocks for forward end. I could only catch a couple threads if used. Round washers would be much better, thats what i went out and bought to match recess in frame. Rotorary file works best for notching out forward holes. Took about 45 minutes.

Had the same issue. Problem is bolts are different and directions dont spend enough time stating the longersmoller bolts are for the spacers. They would simplify if all bolts were the same...I looked quick and thought they were all the same. Mine took longer as I was doing it myself...

They use larger bolts in the hole towards the front of the vehicle to take advantage of the larger sized hole in the frame and help strengthen the connection in light of the spacer plate to fit the frame. The bolts in front are 1/2 inch and in the rear holes, they are 7/16. Not much of a difference, but needed nonetheless.

Tom T, Great idea to use round washers. Do you remember what diameters and thicknesses you used? Since you substituted the round washers for the quarter inch thick square spacer, how much thickness did you use between the frame and hitch after filling the recess? Were the washers stainless steel to prevent rusting? Thanks for any info you can remember.

My wife and I installed this on my her Impreza 5-Door so that we could use the Thule TH990XT to carry our bikes. Installation requires us to enlarge two holes in the subframe. After that, the installation was extremely easy if you have two people working on it. The hitch receiver looks great and does not stick out beyond the bumper at all. We don't even notice it when the bike rack is not on there.

by:

Installed with no issue and it works great. One issue, because the side plates are solid and saddle both sides of the muffler, it tends to create an echo chamber and at times sounds like an aftermarket/hi-flow exhaust. A bit annoying that I get the sound without the performance ??

Subaru XV Crosstrek

I purchased this hitch for my '16 Subaru Crosstrek. It arrived quickly and install took about 30 minutes. As you can see in the photos, it looks well integrated (not like an add-on). Using it with a Yakima Holdup bike rack.
Very pleased with the customer service from etrailer.com. A friend recommended to me and I will do the same.

Still vary satisfied with the hitch. I use it mostly for attaching my bike rack. Even bought a Subaru cap to put on it when not in use.

by:

Installation was a little tricky, doing it by myself without a lift. I used pieces of bicycle inner tube on the bolts to help prevent them from slipping back into the frame rail. Once I secured the nuts, I removed the inner tube pieces and carefully put the spacers in. All went good.

The product is fine, but the car bit the dust and I had to remove the hitch. Unfortunately, it did not fit my new car but I replaced it with the same brand.

by:
2012 Subaru Impreza

Hitch fit just as indicated. A bit of a pain enlarging holes but fortunately it was accomplished using a drill and boring tool. Whoever came up with the jig to pull the bolts through the holes is a genius. To anyone installing this or a similar hitch just “READ” and follow the instructions. Was able, though a bit tough installing by myself. Good luck torquing the bolts.....was able to get the forefront bolts to but getting the torque wrench on the back bolts was impossible, using a good socket wrench was the best I could do. On to the lighting assembly.....

2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

This trail hitch has been perfect for our 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. We use it for a hitch mounted bike rack with 3 to 4 bikes and also a 5' x 8' trailer.

by:
2017 Subaru Crosstrek

Fairly easy to install with a bit of help. My only complaint is that the front bolts were easy to torque down. The rear two were not easy as the hitch frame is in the way to get a straight on socket on them.

by:

was delivered timely and in good condition - worked as advertised at a decent price - easy to install

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

This hitch fit our 2013 Subaru Impreza Sport perfectly. Watching the video of this hitch being installed was very helpful. I watched the video several times during the installation process to make sure I was doing it properly. I backed the rear wheels onto car ramps to create an adequate working space. My only suggestion would be to make the 1/2" bolts a little longer to make threading the nut on easier.

by:
2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

The hitch arrived quickly from etrailer! I purchased a discounted model with a few cosmetic scratches on it? Guess what the scratches are hidden by the bumper of my 2014 Subaru XV Crostrek! Install took approximately 60 minutes. The paper instructions weren't easy to understand, but after watching the install video from your site, a couple of times it went smoothly!
I have also purchased the Swagman Chinook 2 bike platform carrier to be installed soon.

by:
2017 Subaru Crosstrek

The hitch install took me a couple of hours including gathering all the tools, and waiting a bit for the touch up paint to dry around the enlarged holes. It was very easy and I was able to do it by myself. The complaint I have is someone at etrailer put their sticker upside down on hitch.

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

Easy installation. The fish wire worked great! I had my doubts at first.

This will make transporting my bicycles a piece of cake.

P.S. I installed the hitch on a Crosstrek Hybrid, fit perfectly.

by:

What a great hitch and heavy duty. I use it for a bike rack and it keep the bikes far from the rear door as the hitch is flush with the bumper.
It only took about 1 hour to install.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

The hitch was an easy install. My friend JP did not believe the fish method would work. He changed his mind. The install took about an hour. Works great with my bike rack. Will recommend to others.

by:

Good price, shipped right away. A mechanic friend installed for me, though I could have muddled through myself and bashed a knuckle or two. It has worked perfectly! No complaints, completely satisfied with the product. My picture isn't of the hitch, but what it allows :)

by:
2014 Subaru Impreza

easy install, just be sure you have the correct brackets with the correct sized bolts! (The ones that go inside the frame rail) There are two different sizes.

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

Very satisfied with the product! The installation was as easy as it looked on your [online] videos (which are really helpful by the way)! Delivery Time was great as well.

Thanks for a job well done!

by:

A friend of mine helped me install the hitch on my car, and it installed just as the directions and video indicated. Though it was tricky at times, the video was very helpful and I am very happy with the product.

by:

Well you have plenty of photos of an installed hitch. The process went about as described in your video, which was very helpful. I installed the spacers on the forward bolts, only to find that they weren't needed to level the hitch. I didthis on my own and with having to remove the spacers it took two hours I'm 76, so not a speed demon,, if I ever was.

by:
2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Prompt shipping, great product and thanks for including items to help make installation easier.

etrailer is excellent UPS not so much but they fixed their mess up.

by:
2016 Subaru Impreza

Great instructions, good quality, but a huge pain to install if you have any sort of aftermarket exhaust. If you have an aftermarket exhaust where the tip is extended beyond the normal tip length, I highly recommend taking the exhaust off before you try to install it. It fits with my Borpa 11843 axleback but it may not fit at all with a different one.

  • Class 1 Hitch And Platform Bike Rack For 2015 Subaru Impreza Hatchback
Hello Jonathan. So, as far as hitch fitment goes, the hatchback and the wagon are one and the same. We just have it listed as 5-door wagon instead of hatchback. So, for a class 1 hitch for the 2015 Subaru Impreza, I recommend the Curt # C11286. This has a 1-1/4" receiver so it will allow you to mount any bike rack made for a 1-1/4" hitch. My recommendation for a platform-style rack is the Kuat Transfer # KU64FR for a 1-bike rack, or the Kuat NV # BA12B for a 2-bike rack. The Kuat racks...
