Detail of housing assembly, rollers, and cable for Gorilla-Lift trailer tail gate lifter

The Gorilla-Lift tailgate assist reduces the amount of force needed to lift or lower your tailgate. It is comprised of 2 separate units that mount to both sides of your trailer. With even tension applied to each side of the tailgate, the tailgate is able to be raised and lowered evenly, reducing wear on the hinges and helping to prevent warping. Each unit has a spring located in the back. This spring attaches to the cable that hooks onto your tailgate.

Gorilla-Lift trailer tail gate lifter allows you to easily lift and lower your tail gate

When you lower the tailgate, the majority of the load is taken on by the springs, thereby decreasing the amount of weight that you have to manage. When you raise the tailgate, the springs, which extended as the gate lowered, will begin to retract, thus helping to pull the tailgate back into the upright position, again limiting the weight that you are responsible for lifting. As you raise and lower your tailgate, the self-lubricating thermoplastic rollers help to guide the cables in and out. This controls the movement of the cables for smooth and steady operation of the assist, and it also reduces wear on the cables.

I've had two back surgeries so I was very hopeful these would help with raising and lowering a heavy tractor ramp on my new trailer. They have exceeded my expectations.. I can literally use one hand to raise and lower the ramp... I would like to offer a install tip.. use a adjustable wood clamp to align the two tubes when tightening the bolts and they will be perfectly aligned. Great product. 738993

We wish we'd bought this years ago. I do a lot of the mowing and handling the trailer ramp/tailgate is hard on my back and shoulder. I decided to buy from someone besides the big online retailers and ETRAILER'S price was comparable. I like the ease of ETRAILER'S website and appreciated the video on the installation. We did the install in about 1 1/2 hours. Looking forward to using the gorilla lift! 399731

I installed the Gorilla Lifts to my trailer following the directions included in the box. The direction were easy to understand and follow. The lifts were easy to install, adjust and work great. The ramp on my utility trailer was heavy and hard to lift by one person. It is an easy, one handed operation now. I am very happy with the lifts and the service I receive from etrailer.com 524738

The Gorilla Lifts I purchased from etrailer.com and installed on my carry-all trailer are fantastic. They have raked the strain off my back when raising and lowering the tall tailgateramp. I recommend them to everyone who has a similar style trailer!

Easy to install and works quite well. It can take some time to figure out the best spring combination. I Each side has a double spring, I ended up with the double one one side and the single inner on the other to get it to operate well. 821362

I'm 72 and lifting my trailer tailgate was getting to be a problem. My only wish is that I purchased my lift assist years earlier. I have a bi-folding tailgate and it took a bit of adjusting to get it set up correctly, however once figured out it worked like a dream. 804936

I purchase these lifts about a year ago for my 6.4by16ft trailer which had a 300lb tailgate, best decision I have ever made, definitely a great and well built product. I would recommend to anyone to definitely purchase this product if you have a heavy tailgate and you are tired of a sore back. 764839

by:

My trailer had a heavy back braking tailgate/ramp. I installed one side and it was enough lift to allow anyone to operate the tailgate. I installed the other side cause I don't have a second trailer to use it on. With both on, the ramp has almost no weight to it. It's a simple straight forward product that works great. Quality is well worth the price. My installation was slightly more difficult due to the trailer having extended sides. I had to use a piece of flatbar to offset the yellow tubes slightly. I included a pic and you can see the offset bracket if you look closely. 762825

  • Weighing Tailgate to Find Which Tailgate Lift Assist Can be Used
The easiest method to weighing your trailer's tailgate would be to use a hanging scale with the appropriate capacity as they are both inexpensive and easy to find. That would allow you to know whether or not you need the 200 lb capacity Rack'Em Double Barrel Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist # RA-27C, which you would only need one of, or the 300 lb capacity Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist # GL1, which would require use on both sides of the tailgate. It does not look like there is one from the photo you attached but I could be wrong. That said, if you do not have this rail then you could install one of your own but that would be the only way for you to use the lift assist. The height of your tailgate will not be an issue.
