Question:

I bought the following, but the cables are too short. How can I get 8 ft cables? Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist w/ Cable - 300 lbs

Hello Richard, thanks for reaching out. The Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist w/ Cable # GL1 only comes with one length of cable which is about 57" long. We do not offer any other length of cable for this. You could try reaching out to Gorilla Lift to see if they offer anything. Otherwise you might have to get creative and come up with a way to extend the cables.

I am a bit curious why you need longer cables? Is it just the way your trailer is configured and they don't reach? Just curious.

@Rich I gotcha. Yea it sounds like this might be a custom job if you still intend to use it. Feel free to reach out anytime you need anything else though.

I bought a gorilla lift kit for my trailer put it on with no problem then the wires keep cutting the rollers in two . Bought new rollers put them in did the same thing. I didn't notice that the one roller had cut through the PIN and roller the gate came down and broke my big toe and smashed it so what can I use to keep it from cutting the rollers in two and fraying the cable. Thank you

@Pat Hey Pat, man that’s rough — sounds like that really nailed your toe. If the cable is slicing the rollers and fraying, it’s almost always an alignment issue or the cable not tracking dead center in the groove. Even being a little off will turn it into a cheese cutter. I’d check that both lift arms are mounted square, the brackets aren’t twisted, and the cable isn’t riding the edge of the roller under load. Also make sure the door isn’t binding or heavier than the lift is rated for, because extra tension will chew things up fast.
