Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Beveled Stud Holes

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Very happy with this purchase. I previously had 8" trailer rims/wheels and really wanted to upgrade to larger tires to accommodate the extra weight I have added to my small boat. But, I am not a handy guy and really didn't know what I was doing. In other words, I know how to fish but know zero about boat trailers. So, I spoke with etrailer support Tech Paula who walked me through the process in detail and waalaa, done!

@GwendolynY Yes it is a Load Rite PWC trailer.I trailer relatively long highway stretches and the current tires were at the max of there specs. Over the years I have had issues with the stock tires being so close to their max specs (overheating mostly after 8 hours on the road) Hoping these will be a better fit for my use case. Time will tell. Thanks!

by:

Bought this as my spare on a dial key ski trailer. Haven't had to use it yet but I can tell it's eager to jump into action if either of the main tires fails. It just sits there on its mount longing to do its job. Every so often it twitches and gives me that "now?" look but I have to tell it "easy there fella. The others are doing fine" so it gives a look of disappointment and a little sigh but it still remains willing and able.

Just got both of these tires. Shipping was painless and quick. I screwed up and ordered 1 tire, but ordered the 2nd one the next day. Got one tire on Thursday and the other one on Saturday. Immediately put these on my boat trailer as the bias ply tires were freaking me out lol. Will be testing them out tomorrow, by going to a lake thats 30 minutes away via highway. Sure will be nice to go at highway speeds instead of having to keep it below 70. Really liked that the tires were pre-inflated to 64 psi. They look really sturdy and are bigger than my old bias plys. Definitely recommend upgrading to radials for the peace of mind.

by:

Great rims and tires for my jetski trailer. Just what we needed, super fast shipping as a bonus!!!

by:

Perfect upgrade over other tires and rims, these new tires are of a much higher quality than my old Carlilse brand tires. I got a larger tire and wheel that fit on my existing hubs. I have made several purchases from etrailer, and never unhappy with my purchase.

I wish I got radials sooner. Great looking up-grade. Much wider with great thread design. Load range D and increase load capacity is significantly higher then LR C’s Delivery was very fast with great tracking and knowledgeable salespeople to answer any questions. Always happy with etrailer products.

I purchased these tires to replace the 5 year old tires on my malone microsport trailer.I plan on driving from MA to SC and i found that the AM31202 HAS THE BEST OVERALL rating for 12" tires for driving on highway for long distance, and e trailer ,has the best prices and the galvanized coating was prefect, i have purchased many items over the years from e trailer , every purchase was perfect. The employees know there stuff , and sell high quality products., and shipping was fast.

by:

These tires cost more but these tires are 8 ply load range D radial tire which have a higher rating on the weight capacity with a updated tread design. The galvanized wheels are a must for any boat trailer being put into salt water and fresh water in the area of the world I live in. Time will tell but the set up looks as it will hold up to years of repeated use. The tire & rim set up balanced easily on my old style bubble balancer I use in my shop. You get what you pay for...

After one year, the tires are holding up just fine. Gladi made the switch

by:

My wife & I are leaving fo our Western NY Home traveling on Rte 75. Driving at 70 mph, so these radial 12", 8 ply trailer tires should hold up for this 13 hr drive. I'm always worried towing and 12" wheels heat up at high speeds. Really glad you had these tires & wheels in stock & able to ship them in a couple days. I had 4 year old bias ply C rated tires on my trailer but I didn't trust them for the speed & distance I'd be traveling.

by:

As with my order last week service was excellent, delivery was just as prompt as my order last week. Impressive operation. Thanks to all involved.

by:

Tire is fine but rim looks like a unsupervised 2 year old got hold of a spray can and painted it. The galvanizing has awful runs. I know this is isn't the most expensive tire/wheel but does anyone take any pride anymore?

Katrina D. profile picture

Unfortunately, this is very common for these galvanized rims. They are dipped into molten zinc and are drip dried. This will sometimes cause bubbles and or rough marks on the rims, you can sand it down to make it smooth.

by:

I'm glad to see I have an option to garbage bias ply 4.80x12 trailer tires. I've tried a lot of them over the years and always the same result, poor quality, ride, and terrible tread life. My last set of bias plys on a 2 ski pwc trailer were already down to the wear bars in a year and maybe 1000-1200 miles.
Ordered these galvanized wheels and kenda radials and as always etrailer got them here very fast and well packed. Took them to my local tire guy and he balanced them. Didn't take much weight and watching them spin showed a straight rim and tire. Installed them and was shocked the first trip to the river. Zero vibration from the trailer! Bias plies seem to bounce and transfer it to my truck through the hitch. These tires are smooth, no trailer bounce, pull great, and I don't see my yamahas vibrating in the rear view mirror.
Fast forward a few months till now. I probably have 5-600 miles on them. Still perfect, zero air loss, zero tread wear noted. I will buy these from now on based on what I'm seeing so far.

by:

Haven’t had them in salt water yet but great fit on my trailer and love the lower height. Wonderful service and fast delivery to my front door.

by:

Fantastic price, great selection, and free shipping to boot. I needed new tires for a long ATV trip and wanted a spare tire as well (I know, I know, but I usually only trailer locally). I ordered these radial tires and rims pre-mounted which allowed me to use one of the old wheels as my spare. Everything performed flawlessly over about 600 miles and even held their torque specs when I checked them during and after the trip. The spare tire carrier compliments the galvanized trailer frame and rims and looks like it will hold up to the elements of the North East. All in all, I highly recommend these products and etrailer.

  • Can A Smaller Tire Be Put On My Trailer To Lower It
Yes, you are able to put a smaller tire on the trailer to lower it, however there are a few things that you want to consider when choosing a smaller tire. According to my research the standard tires that are on your trailer are ST175/80R 13LRC tires with a 1360 pound capacity. It also has a 2200 pound rubber torsion axle with no brakes. This type of setup has either wheels with a 4 on 4 Inch # AM3S120 or a 5 on 4-1/2 Inch bolt pattern # AM31994. This is something to consider when choosing...

  • Best Wheel and Tire for Trailer to Replace 4.80-12
Hey Jeff, I would recommend going with the part # AM31202 over what you have now as the tire is a radial construction as opposed to the bias ply that was on old wheel. Radials do much better on the highway than bias ply tires. It would be a direct replacement that wouldn't have any clearance issues.

  • Recommended Tire Replacement for 155/80R13 Tire on a Shorelander Boat Trailer
I recommend the 145/80-12 over the 5.30-12 simply because the it comes in a Radial construction while the 5.30-12 is only available in a Bias construction. Either one can be used for a boat trailer, but Radial is overall better for highway use which is why I recommend going that route. For a 4 on 4" bolt pattern I recommend the part # AM31208HWT which comes with an aluminum wheel but if you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern the galvanized wheel kit # AM31202. I'm linking some review videos...

  • Tire Recommendation for Size 20.5x8-10 on Coleman Fleetwood PopUp Camper
The tire size of 20.5x8-10 is the same as the size 205/65-10 which for that we have the Loadstar part # AM1HP56 which has a weight capacity of 1,650 lbs at 90 psi and a higher speed rating of 87 mph so it's overall a really great option. This is the largest size for a 10 inch wheel though so it's probably easiest to stick with this option. Going to a larger size would require a new wheel and tire combo like the # AM31202 which is a tire size of ST145/R12 and is only about .8 of an inch taller.

This also most likely would be too large to fit behind your 10 inch trailer wheels as well. In the 10 inch trailer tire size there are only bias ply options available. Hey Neil, thanks for reaching out. The tire and rim combo # AM35354 is a steel powder coated wheel. It can be used on a boat trailer, but generally we recommend going with either a galvanized or aluminum wheel for boat trailers. • Looking For Tire With Higher Speed Rating For Loadrite Trailer With 4.80-12 Tires
Hello Christopher, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly help point you in the right direction. The main thing to consider here is the clearance in your wheel well/fender area. Ideally you want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. So it may be possible to run larger tires depending on the clearance with the current tire setup. For example, the 4.80-12 tires are about 20.7" in diameter and 4.9" wide....

Hey Craig, yes the Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H325 would be the best wheel and tire in the size you have currently of 215/60-8. It has the highest Load Range and also a galvanized wheel that will work great to prevent corrosion. To end up with a radial you'd need to go to the larger tire size of ST145/R12 like the part # AM31202. This would raise the height of the trailer about 1.5 inches which I know snowmobile trailers like to be as low as possible.
