Looking for Boat Trailer Wheel for Pontoon Boat Trailer ST145R12

Updated 07/23/2026 | Published 06/20/2026

Question:

Hi - I just got a used 18 pontoon tandem trailer, and Id like to replace the 4 tires already assembled with new tires/wheels. The spare looks in good condition. The current tires on there are Sterling Sport ST145R12 10PR 95/90L with a 5 lug. Would you have a recommendation on what to replace? I appreciate it as a first-time trailer owner. Thanks!

Hey Greg, welcome to trailer and boat ownership! So I would recommend the Kenda Karrier ST145R12 that you referenced part # AM31202. The tires are radials with a higher speed rating and the wheel is galvanized which means it will do a great job fighting corrosion. What kind of boat do you have now? Or did you just get a trailer for your boat?

Thanks Jameson! Those look nice - I've got a 2018 Sweetwater 1800 on a Wolverine Tandem Pontoon Rrailer. I have no history on the trailer so I figured better safe than sorry on a new set. Is there any way to tell how long a spare lasts? The spare looks like it's never been used, but contemplating if i need to get a 5th tire. I appreciate the advice!

@GregO Look up the date code and that will tell you what you need to know. Trailer tires generally are only good for 4-6 years so go off what the year is that you find. There should be a four digit code on the sidewall of the tire directly after the DOT sequence that states when the tire was made. This code could be on one side or both but if the tire is DOT approved then it will be present, or was at one time. The first two numbers in the code are the week and the last two numbers in the code are the year. For example, if the date code is 2511 then the tire was made on the 25th week of 2011.
