Question:
Good day, I currently have a PWC trailer loadrite 14F100WT with a load star wheels 4.80 X 12 with 5 lugs. I’m trying to go with a wheel and tire with a higher speed rating, I usually take the trailer on slightly off road areas and prefer a bigger tire. Do you have any recommendations on what would work for me. Thank you!

Hello Christopher, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly help point you in the right direction. The main thing to consider here is the clearance in your wheel well/fender area. Ideally you want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer.
So it may be possible to run larger tires depending on the clearance with the current tire setup.
For example, the 4.80-12 tires are about 20.7" in diameter and 4.9" wide.
If you need a higher speed rating, we would have to go with a larger tire like a ST145/R12. These are about 21.3" in diameter and 5.7" wide. These have an 81 mph speed rating. So as long as you have a little bit of extra clearance, these ST145/R12 are the upgrade you are looking for. For that I recommend the following:
- Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" Galvanized Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM31202

Hey Christopher, did you have a chance to check the clearance on your trailer to see if the larger ST145/R12 tires would fit? I'm curious to know if this upgrade worked for you, as it could help others looking to improve their trailer setup.
