Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Dexter U-Bolt Kit for mounting 5,200 to 7,000-pound round trailer axles. Now this kit is designed to fit axle diameters of three inches, which is going to be your typical 5,200 to 7,000-pound axles. And this kit includes everything that you see here on my table before me. You're going to receive four seven-inch long U-bolts and then two U-bolt plates for 1 3/4-inch or two-inch springs, and then eight 1/2 inch by 20 nuts. And the spring seats.

Spring seats are required for mounting the axle to the leaf springs, and those are gonna be sold separately from this kit. Now, if we measure from the inside of the U-bolt to the bottom of the bolt post, that's gonna give us our seven-inch measurement. And these are tapered where the axle sits to help the U-bolt stay in place on your axle. And the area between the bolt post measure three inches. So that's where we are...

That's where we get the spring width fitting from. And then the diameter of each one of these bolts measure half an inch. And of course, the plates that are included are designed to fit these U-bolts. Well, that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.

Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

  • Replacement Axles for D44 Axle With 86-1/2" Hub Face Measurement
The Dexter Trailer Axle # 8327816-EB would be your best replacement option. This includes the hub/drum and brake assemblies so you won't have to piece that together separately. It matches your 86-1/2" hub face measurement but the spring center is a little off. You will need to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS300 to match your 68-1/2" measurement. You will also need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8.

  • Parts Needed to Convert a Tandem Axle Trailer to a Triple Axle Trailer
Daniel, you can add a third axle but you're going to want to keep all of your axles the same size. So if you wanted 6K axles instead of 5.2K then you'd want to swap the other two as well. With that said, to add your third axle you're going to need the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8, the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APTT5, and the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,300-lb Trailer Axles # e76SR. For the axle itself, let...

  • Parts Needed for Adding Electric Brakes to Trailer with Bearings LM67048 25580
For a new hub/drum that will work great with your current axles you'd want the part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ and then for brake assemblies you'd want the # AKEBRK-7-SA which are self-adjusting. To wire up the brakes you'd need 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot. Then leaf springs the part # e34SR would work really well too. Then for a U-bolt kit you'd want the part # APUBR-8. For new shackles I'd need you to get me the length of the ones you have now though. Measured from...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for 2017 Grand Design Imagine 2600RB
Thank you for providing that information. Leaf springs like the ones you have now typically match the axle capacity on your trailer. Although adding leaf springs with a slightly higher capacity won't hurt, it also is not necessary. Based on the leaf springs and and other information I'm sure you have 3,500 lb axles. Your standard diameter for this capacity would be 2-3/8". In addition to the capacity you want the eye to eye length to match, so we are looking at 25-1/4" long leaf springs. I...

  • Replacement Axle, Hubs, Brakes, and Tires for Older Trailer With Dexter 22834 Hub
Based on the axle and bearing measurements it looks like your trailer was using a Dexter 22834 hub. The Outer Bearing # 1779 has an ID of .938" and the Inner Bearing # 2788 has an ID of 1.50". The outer bearing is slightly off but that may be due to a measuring error. That would also mean you have 5,200 lb axles on the trailer. This is an obsolete assembly so you will need to replace the entire axle. For a replacement you can use the # e55SR. This will stick out an extra 3/4" on either...

The Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e45SR is the closest axle we have that meets the criteria that you gave me. This axle is 6,000lbs with a 4" drop. It has a spring center to spring center measurement of 74" and hub face to hub face of 89". It includes electric brakes and hubs with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. The axle does include easy lube spindles that make greasing your bearings much easier. If this will not work please let me know your hub face dimension and wheel bolt pattern...

  • Rebuilding a Tandem Axle Trailer with 6,000 Lb - 7,200 Lb Axles
I would love to help but are you sure that you have space to lower the trailer 4" - 6"? You will need at least 3" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender in order to allow for proper suspension travel. It looks like the fenders on the trailer now will not allow for this therefore I would you to do some measuring before any of the new parts are purchased. I would also need more info on the trailer such as axle capacity (see center label), leaf spring length (eye to eye), leaf...

  • Parts Needed to Convert 7k Axle Trailer with 38 inch Wheelbase to Slipper Springs
Hey Clark, so for a tandem slipper spring hanger kit designed for 38 inch wheelbases is the part # HAP-105-205-01. Then for the slipper springs you'd need the part # e74SR and you'd be set. For a u-bolt kit that is compatible with the 2 inch wide springs that I mentioned you'd then also need the part # APUBR-8.

Hey Ron, good to hear from you! How long are your current U-Bolts? The U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-8 could potentially work as it has 7" long U-Bolts, but it really boils down to what you currently have. For something longer we have the MORryde U-Bolt Kit # MR66ZR which are 7-3/4" long.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring and Equalizer Kit for Trailer with 5,200 lb Axles
For leaf springs you would want the part # e34SR which is a 25-1/4 inch long leaf spring that is rated for a 6k axle. The shorter length of this would match up well with what you have now. Then for a U-bolt kit you would want the part # APUBR-8 which is correct for 3 inch diameter axles. Then for a tandem axle equalizer and shackle kit you'd need the part # AP233 and you'd be set.

  • Recommended Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Kit For A 2022 Keystone Montana 3121CK
Looking at the GVWR of a 2022 Keystone Montana 3121CK you most likely have 7K axles so the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers # RM-2460-2570 would be what you need. To confirm you'll want to look at the axles for the axle tag and check their capacity. This kit is good for 5,200lb - 7,000lb 3" axles. You will most likely also need to replace the U-bolts even though Roadmaster says you can reuse the current ones in the installation manual. There typically...

We have either a 5,200LB # 8327816-EB or 6,000LB # 8327826-EB axle you will be able to use to replace your current 4,400lb axle. Both these axles have the 86-1/2" hub face spread and include hubs with electric brakes and the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern your wheels and tires require. The brakes are the larger 12" diameter but will fit with the ST225/75R15 tires I see the Grand Design Imagine 2670M comes with. • Does The Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e65SR Also Include U-Bolts For Mounting?
The Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e65SR does not include U-bolts. We have either the Standard # APUBR-8 or Zinc/Galvanized Coated # CE23003 U-Bolt Kits depending on your application. If you are in an area prone to rust steel easily due to road salts or high humidity you will want to use the zinc/galvanized kit.

  • Recommended Axle Upgrade for a 4,400 lb Lippert Axle
We do carry the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e75SR which would be an upgrade to your 4,400 lb axles. You're just going to need to measure your hub-face to hub-face and your spring-center to spring-center. This particular axle has an 89" hub face measurement and a 74" spring center measurement so if that's what you have then this axle will work great. First of all, thanks very much for all that specific info, it was extremely helpful. Let's go ahead and and start with the equalizer upgrade, and for your 33 inch axle spacing, the best option are the MORryde rubber equalizers with their suspension upgrade kit. The equalizers give you 3" of travel so smooth out the ride, and the upgrade kit gives you the greaseable bolts and thick shackle straps. • Trailer Suspension Hanger Kit for Slipper Springs and 38 inch Wheelbase
Since you have a wheelbase/axle spacing of 38 inches the correct hanger kit for slipper springs would be the part # HAP-105-205-01. And then for a 7k trailer axle the u-bolt kit you'd want would be the part # APUBR-8. I attached the diagram to use to space everything out at. I would recommend putting the center hanger of this kit in the same location as the center hanger on your old suspension hanger configuration.

We do have the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-8 for 3" diameter axles. This has 7" long U-bolts so you can compare that to what you have now. You should also measure your equalizers, or at least the wheelbase,...

Absolutely, the Dexter leaf spring part 072-098-00 is a double eye spring, designed for 7,000 lb axles, with a 25-1/4" eye to eye measurement. • Can 3,500 lb Axles be Changed to 5,200 lb Axles and Parts Needed
The short answer is yes, you can replace your 3,500 lb axle with a 5,200 lb axle. The longer answer is that while you can change to a higher-rated axle, that does not mean your trailer has a higher weight capacity. The reason is, weight ratings are determined by the lowest-rated component, which can be something other than the axle, like the trailer chassis, for example. So you would need to ensure via the trailer manufacturer what the lowest-rated component is. With that said, in order...

  • Can Trailer Upgrade From 3,500 lb to 5,200 lb Axle
While the simple answer is yes, you can replace your 3,500 lb axles with 5,200 lb axles, it will require a number of all-new parts and isn't going to quite give you the safety margin you are looking for. The reason for that is because capacity is determined by its lowest-rated component, so if you have a pair of 3,500 lb axles, your leaf springs are also likely rated for that much (or very close) and higher-rated axles won't supersede that rating. That said, in order to choose the correct...
