Recommended Suspension Upgrade for a 2021 Grand Design Solitude

Updated 09/24/2025 | Published 07/02/2025

Question:

I have a 2021 solitude grand design…. 17-18k GVW. I’m considering your product to smooth out the ride. Do you think they will work with SumoSprings?

Hey Frank. The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket item # SS26MV you were looking at are going to take some of the bounce out of your trailer's suspension. They will smooth out your ride as they essentially act like shock absorbers so you won't feel as much of the road. You'll need two sets for a tandem axle trailer.

I also saw you were looking at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers item # RM-2460-2580. This is by far the best upgrade you can make to your Grand Design's suspension. The Comfort Ride works by replacing your entire suspension system. These kits include heavy-duty gas shocks along with setting up the axles up to operate independently. This not only helps with smoothing out your ride, it gives you extra traction.

You are going to need to take a measurement of the diameter of your axle, because I do not have that information available. These kits fit not only on the axle's capacity but the diameter of the axles. I have listed both options below:

3" Trailer Axles - Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks item # RM-2460-2580

3-1/2" Axles - Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks item # RM-2470-2580

Additionally, you will also need to replace the u-bolts and they are not included with the Comfort Ride Kits. For a 3" you'll need item # APUBR-8. For a 3-1/2" you'll need item # APUBR-35.

What comfort issues are you encountering when towing your trailer?

Hey Frank, did you get a chance to measure your axle diameter and decide on a suspension upgrade for your Grand Design?

Hey Jerred! I have 3” axles and would like to use something that is not a forklift upgrade.

@Frank The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket item # SS26MV are going to be your best option. This springs work with 5,000 lbs - 8,000 lbs axles that are mounted below your leaf springs. They'll help cushion road shock and stabilize your suspension. You'll need two sets. If your axle's are mounted above your springs you'll need two of the item # SS33HR kits instead.
