Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Great people to work with

Great service, fast shipping, excellent value

I highly recommend etrailer for their competitive prices, excellent service, and speedy delivery.

Eyes are out of round and the brass bushings deform when pressed in making the wet bolts hard to install through bushing. The bushings will probably wear out prematurely.

Purchased these 5 leaf springs to replace original set (4 leaf) on my 20 year old fifth wheel toy hauler. I went with 5 leaf because I tend to load it a bit heavy so I’m looking for support not to increase payload. Fit and finish are great plus I like the fact they are painted. Besides price I also chose these because they are apparently made in America (doesn’t say so on the springs) hence the 4stars. On my test drive after installing them I can feel stability has improved and trailer not so “hoppy”. I’ve made a few purchases from Etrailer and they never disappoint great value, fast shipping and communication!!

I purchased these because new bronze bushings were fitting very loose in my existing springs. When I removed the plastic bushings installed in the springs I found the same loose fit despite there only being about .010” difference in bushing OD. It appeared that the paint or other black substance was all that held the bushings in. Shim stock was used to take up gap with the bronze bushings.

  • Replacement 26" Leaf Spring Recommendation for 6K Axles on a 2017 Jayco Eagle
Hey George, sorry to hear about your previous experience with your leaf spring setup. I've been stranded on the side of the road because of a trailer malfunction as well and it definitely isn't a pleasant experience so I understand where you're coming from for sure. Picking up some heftier leaf springs sounds like a great idea - I typically encourage people to give themselves some cushion for things like this (suspension and couplers) so you can be confident that loading your trailer all...

  • What Info Is Needed to Pick Out Replacement Leaf Springs for Trailer
Hey Levi, when picking out trailer leaf springs you want to base it off the axle capacity of the trailer and the length. You want to go with a spring that's about 1/4 inch shorter in length than one of your old springs when there isn't a load on it as they tend to flatten and stretch over time. So if you can get me the axle capacity of what you have now I can give you a better recommendation. Typically the amount of leaves isn't something to worry too much about for what that's worth.

  • How can I Tell that I Need to Replace the Leaf Springs on My 2017 Fuzion 371 Toy Hauler?
Hello Mike, Great question! You can tell your toy hauler trailer's leaf springs are worn out by looking for several visual and performance-related signs. Visually, worn springs may appear flat or even bowed downward, rather than having their original arch. If your trailer sags, leans to one side, or sits lower than usual, especially when evenly loaded that's a clear indicator of fatigue. Cracks, broken or missing leaves, and shifting or misaligned spring packs also point to failure. You...

  • What Axle Capacity Leaf Spring for 2018 Jayco Seismic 4212
Hey Timothy, I know the temptation is to go with a higher rated spring since bigger is better. But in reality the correct rated spring will give you a better ride quality since the heavier the spring the stiffer it will be. So instead I would recommend a 7k spring like the part # TRU52FR which will provide a much better ride quality. You do need to make sure you get the right length spring too. The TRU52FR is 25-1/4 inch long and is a very common size so be sure to measure what you have.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 7k Axle that is 25-1/4 inch
Hey Darrel, we actually have exactly what you are looking for with the part # TRU52FR which is for a 7k axle and is 25-1/4 inch from eye to eye. This is also a 6 leaf spring as well. The spring you referenced would be too short.

  • Do We Have 25" Long, 3,500 lb Trailer Leaf Springs
Hello Jason, The Dexter 072-098-02 are 25" long, 3,500 lb double-eye leaf springs, and while we don't have those specifically, we do have a similar option with the 25-1/8" long 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e54SR. I know these aren't exactly what you asked for but I did want to give you the option just in case they would work out for you.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2017 Eclipse Attitude 2714 Toy Hauler
We do have a 7k axle rated leaf spring with the part # TRU52FR which would work great most likely but it is 25-1/4 inches long so you'd need to verify that is length you'd need as well. This is a very common size but you'd need to measure to be sure.

  • Need Replacement Leaf Springs For 2018 Montana 5th Wheel With 7,000 lb Axles
Hello Norm. I can definitely point you in the right direction of new leaf springs for your 2018 Montana 5th wheel. Leaf springs are not custom fitted though, so there is no way to know what size spring you need just by looking at the model of RV. Knowing the axle capacity does help to narrow things down, but we will need another piece of information, and that is the eye-to-eye length of the current springs. The best way to measure a spring is to jack up the trailer and measure the spring...

  • What is Highest Weight Rated Trailer Leaf Spring that is 26 inches Long
Hey Bradley, in the leaf spring size you have of 26 inch the highest capacity option we have is the part # e94SR which is rated for a 6k axle. If you wanted to go to a higher rating you'd have to look into moving your suspension hangers. Like if you wanted to go to a 7k axle rated leaf spring you'd want the part # TRU52FR.

  • Upgraded Leaf Spring Replacement for 2020 5th Wheel with 6k Rated Axles
Hey Joseph, it sounds like your leaf springs have worn out and would need to be replaced...but since you are wanting a spring that's a bit more heavy duty I would recommend going with the part # TRU52FR as this is rated for 7k axles and is the 25-1/4 inch length you are needing as well. Going with a longer spring won't help at all and would basically just make the suspension bind up.
