Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 3,500-lb, Round Trailer Axles

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Redline U-bolt kit for mounting 3500 pound round trailer axles. These are 5 1/2 inch long U-bolts. The part number is APUBR-1.Now, when replacing your axle, it's a really good idea to also replace the U-bolts. These are a pretty cost effective item you can get and ensure that you're going to have excellent, excellent hold with your axle to your springs. You can see this is going on a floor spring pack. The opening on them is going to be 2 3/8 inch, so it's going to fit the outer tube diameter of our axle here.

It comes with the new lower plate, and also four new flange nuts that allows you to secure that end, keep everything locked tight, so you don't have any issues for a very long time. Now we're going to remove the four nuts on the bottom here that hold our axle down, and they hold the U-bolts here. When replacing an axle, generally you're going to replace these as well, just because these can kind of stretch over time. So, if these nuts won't come off, you can also just cut your U-bolts on each side. Now we're going to grab our new U-bolt kit and place these down and around, just like our old U-bolts were, and when we we'll replace the bottom bracket up on the U-bolts we'll see the hole here in the middle. That's meant for that nut to come down through, and then in each position we'll install one of the flange nuts. Now we'll go through and you're evenly going to tighten down our bolt. We'll get them snugged up first and then we can torque them.

For these nuts you'll want to use a 19 millimeter 3/4 inch socket. Notice we're tightening them evenly, but in a crossing pattern. That's going to compete our look at the U-bolt mounting kit for 3500 pound round trailer axles, part number APUBR-1.

  • How to Determine Correct Leaf Springs For 2018 Jayco Travel Trailer
Hi Austin, I can help you determine the right replacement double-eye leaf springs for your 2018 Jayco trailer, though we don't have any way of knowing what specific ones you need. It's pretty easy though, as all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes, and you also need to know the weight rating of your axle. Based on its weight, your 174BH is likely to have a 3,500 lb axle, though you'll want to double check just to be sure. Leaf springs...

  • Replacement Hub that Has Bearings L44649 and Bolt Pattern 5 on 4-1/2 inch
The trailer hub part # 8-258-5UC1 that you referenced is an exact fit for the spindle you have on your trailer based on the bearing numbers you listed and the wheel bolt pattern. To jump up to a 3,500 lb axle would require more info from you. I'd need spring seat center to spring seat center plus hub face to hub face off your old axles. You have slipper springs which we can help with that as well. How long are the springs you have now?

You will need the U-Bolt Kit item # APUBR-1 to use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 27" Long item # SP-210275. The kit uses 1/2 inch diameter nuts that you will want to torque them down to about 70 foot pounds.

  • Recommended Axle And Fenders For Karavan Trailer
The 3,500 lb axle we offer that meets the 82-5/8 flange to flange measurement you mentioned you need is part # T3584F-8974. The spring to spring measurement for this axle is 74 inches. None of the axles we offer in this weight capacity have the 76 or 78 spring-to-spring measurement. The U-bolt mounting kit I recommend is part # APUBR-1. This includes the U-bolts, plates, and hex nuts needed for installation. If you are looking to buy new springs for your trailer you can check out the...

  • How To Choose Correct 3,500 Lb Axle for Slipper Spring Setup
In order to determine which axle is correct for your trailer we need to find out what your hub face (HF) and spring center (SC) measurements are. If you take a look at the photo I have attached for you that should then help with obtaining the above two measurements. The most important thing we need to look for is the hub face as the spring center can then be moved (within a range) if we need to. I have attached a list of the 3,500 lb axles we offer in the varying hub face and spring center...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2015/2016 Riverside Retro 195
Hi David; you will have to measure your other leaf spring to find the right replacement. I recommend measuring the flat length to get the most accurate measurement, see the article linked further down on this page. For example, if you found that the overall flat length was 26-3/8", or the eye to eye measurement was 25-1/4", you could use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e54SR. If you have a different measurement let me know in the comments below and I'll see what...

  • What Is The Purpose Of Steel band On Leaf Springs
The leaf springs are normally installed with the band forward of the axle, but it is not something that has to be done that way. The steel band is called the rebound clip. Their main purpose is to help keep the main leaf from breaking on a rebound. When the weight of a vehicle or trailer is on the spring, all of the leaves work together to support the spring above them. If the wheel drops for any reason the total weight of the axle falls on the main leaf if there are no rebound clips....

  • Looking For New Suspension Parts For 2985 Holiday Rambler AlumaLite Camper
Hey Alexis, thanks for reaching out. You are on the right track with the # E59SR spring. That will be the closest to the specs you provided. It is like 3/8" longer than your current springs, but that is within the acceptable tolerance. As far as the rest of the parts you mentioned, we can provide them, but we do not carry everything in one all-inclusive kit. I can tell you the u-bolt kit you need is part # APUBR-1. For the equalizers and shackle links, I will need some measurements...

  • Replacement U-Bolts for Bunks on Escort Bunk Trailer

I'd recommend checking out the size you have now and comparing them to these. If you need something different let me know.

It definitely will Paul. The spring seats on the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs item # e52GR are welded on at an 80" spacing. All you'll need to do is bolt this up where your current axle sits. You will want to replace the U-bolts though. It's not recommended to reuse them when swapping out axles. The item # APUBR-1 kit will provide everything you need. What happened to your old axle?

  • Correct Leaf Spring for Trailer with Lippert 3,500 lb Axle
Thank you for the photo! I was able to use the serial number on your axle to determine which is the correct replacement leaf spring for your trailer. For this, you are going to want to use the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e57SR. The measurement you provided of 26" long is correct but the leaf spring needs to be measured while unloaded as it will lengthen while a load is present. If you were to take the leaf spring off of the trailer it would measure 25-1/4" unless badly worn. I don't recommend...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Calkins Boat Trailer with 3500-lbs Axles
I'm not seeing any matches with a CW1820 on that trailer, but it sounds like your trailer has a 3500-lbs axle capacity. You will need to measure your existing leaf springs and then choose the closest match in length; your worn out springs will be a bit longer than a new spring, so you'll typically you'll go down by about 1/2" to find the closest match. For 3500-lbs axles, something like the # e54SR is 25-1/8" long and might be a good option, but there are also a 23-1/8" spring # e59SR...

We do have 26" long leaf springs, I would just want to make sure your measurement was taken with the springs were not under a load, otherwise they will measure a bit longer than they actually are. If you do need a 26" long spring, the closest we have is the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e22YR which is 26" long and for a 4,000 lb axle. • Replacement 3,500 lb Leaf Springs & 7-3/4 Inch Wide Equalizer
Thanks for all that info and we can get you exactly what you are needing. Since you have a 2-3/8" axle that would be a 3,500 lb axle, so you want leaf springs rated for that weight. The concern with springs that exceed the rating of your axle is that they will give you a very stiff, rigid ride, so you want to stay with the correctly rated springs. I'll go ahead and list out the parts you need, with a couple notes. First is that leaf springs elongate slightly over time, which is why the...

In order to find the correct replacement slipper spring you will need the length, width, and the capacity. • Torque Specifications on Lug Nuts, Leaf Springs, and Equalizers.
For U-bolts like # APUBR-1 the torque spec is between 45 and 75 ft-lbs. For the shackle bolts on the end of your leaf springs and a standard equalizer there are no listed torque specs. If you make them too tight they won't function properly. I would tighten them down until they make contact with your shackle straps and then add another 1/4 turn. For the torque spec on the lug nuts on your wheels see the chart below.
