Correct Leaf Spring for Trailer with Lippert 3,500 lb Axle

Published 10/19/2018

Question:

Thank you Conner. I want to make sure I purchase a beefier spring than stock. Is the SP-220275 you recommend the highest weight limit I can go? What about the SP-218275 (5000 lbs)? Also what U-Bolt Kit do you recommend. Thanks again.

Thank you for the photo! I was able to use the serial number on your axle to determine which is the correct replacement leaf spring for your trailer. For this, you are going to want to use the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e57SR.

The measurement you provided of 26" long is correct but the leaf spring needs to be measured while unloaded as it will lengthen while a load is present. If you were to take the leaf spring off of the trailer it would measure 25-1/4" unless badly worn. I don't recommend using either part # e27SR.

If you wanted something more beefier than the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # SP-220275 then I would use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # SP-218275 which is rated for 5,000 lbs total. I would not go higher than 5,000 lbs as the suspension would be very stiff and cause a bouncy ride. For a u-bolt kit I recommend part # APUBR-1.
