Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Replacement Spindle Washer

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this replacement Tang Type Spindle Washer for E-Z Lube. Now this spindle washer has a thickness of 1/32 of an inch with an inner diameter of 1 inch. And let me go ahead and just get my ruler here real quick to confirm that inner diameter for you. Hopefully, my camera will stay in focus there. So as you can see, we're sitting right at 1 inch.

And as you probably know, when you install this, you are going to bend one of these two tangs up into a slot for your castle nut, and that's what holds your castle nut in place and it keeps it from backing off. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope the information was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

Perfect fit & Quick Shipping!

by:

Just what it is suppose to be.

by:

Good product

by:

As described. Great price, and shipping was very fast.

by:

EXCELLENT...... START TO FINISH. Fantastic service, great prices, quality products. So much better than trying to clean up the old bent ones. I'll need to order more to have on hand. Thanks again, Bill Borland in Michigan

by:

I was re packing my bearings, and found this broken, ordered a new one, it fits my trailer as it should.

by:

Should have been included with the drum package as I forget to add them to first order.
No worries. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Hard to find good customer service even dealing face to face, much less over the internet. Good experience, good price and fast shipping.

by:

Not a highly sophisticated product I needed - spindle washers - but in this hick town of Duluth, MN they were impossible to locate. Etrailer's
service was exceptional and the next time I need a more substantial
item, this is the place I will go. Thank you.

by:

Please see the attached picture of the broken parts I found when inspecting the wheel bearing on my boat trailer.
I was unaware of the tang wheel bearing washer assembly until I visited your website and watched the installation video.
I had never seen any other method than the cotter pin assembly to retain the bearing on the axle.
I was glad to see the the actual way the washer was manufactured. It didn't seem right that the small tab alone cold retain the bearing.
Thank you for the video and the prompt delivery of the needed parts.

by:

Very good customer service, Austin was very knowledgeable, all the parts I bought worked perfect. Also recommend etrailer to a neighbor who wants to replace his trailer brakes.

by:

These were just what I needed and they are working great. The technician that did the repair work on my trailer did not have the correct washers so because I had these washers from Etrailer he was able to complete his repair work.

by:

Glad I grabbed extra of these when I want to service the bearings.

by:

Could not find anywhere until I tried etrailer. Good product good service. Definitely go back.

by:

Great customer service

by:

Just what I needed, and shipping was fa st!!!

by:

I purchased 2 galvanized wheels and 2 galvanized hubs. The box they shipped the items in was sealed well with staples and was robust, but the items weren't separate well at all. Whomever packaged the order placed a few pieces of packing paper inside. All the items were tossed around and dinged up. The threaded wheel lugs on the hub were dented and needed to be filed and thread chased. Other than that, the products seem nice, but time will tell.

by:

Exactly what I ordered.

by:

All of the parts I ordered arrived together and nothing was damaged, so that’s a plus. Ordering the seal puller and 7 piece installation set was definitely a good investment, because it definitely made everything that much easier to install!

It has been over a year since I replaced all of the bearings on our pontoon trailer and everything is performing as expected.

by:

I thought I'd have a hard time finding these. One call to Will at etrailer and they were on the way!

by:

They work good.

by:

Finally order arrived, box intact and all parts ordered in it. Will replace my old Tang washers with the new ones this weekend.

by:

Correct part for my application. Fit perfectly. Looks like good quality.

by:

perfect fit. fast shipping.

This was just to have a spare and its g reat.

  • Method for removing and Installing Tang-Style Spindles Washers
A replacement tang-style spindle washer like part # 5-101 is intended to be installed behind the castle nut and have its prongs bent down so that they prevent the castle nut from rotating on an E-Z Lube type spindle. The castle nut holds the washer in place, of course, and the washer's prongs fold down into the gaps in the nut to prevent it from loosening on the spindle. The removal and re-installation processes are shown for you in the linked video.

  • Should There Be a Washer on Trailer Spindle Between Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing
There really should be a flat washer between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be used on a spindle that has a flat side and uses the same castle nut and cotter pin setup. A Tongue Washer,...

  • Washers Compatible With 7/8 Inch Castle Nut
For castle nut # 165931, for a D washer use part # 5-23 or round washer use part # SW1000. These are both for 1 inch spindles but are compatible with the 7/8 inch castle nut assemblies. You can also use the Replacement Spindle Washer - Tang Type for E-Z Lube # 5-101.

  • How to Find the Correct Idler Hub Replacement for Boat Trailer
In order to find the correct wheel bearings, you can take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you would need to use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure. I've also added a link to a help...

No, it does not Greg but I have one that does. For 13" wheels you'll need the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub for 2K Axles item # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K. This is also a pre-greased idler hub with 5 on 4-1/2 lug nut pattern that has item # L44649 inner and outer bearings. It has a 2,000 lbs capacity and is sold individually. The item # AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-2K you were looking at only works with 10" to 12" wheels. What kind of trailer do you have?

  • Are D-Washers and Tang Washers Both Necessary on Trailer Spindle
Whatever bearing kit you got likely came with both to give you options. Since you already had a tang washer on your spindle you can stick with the tang washer. Using the tang washer like the # 5-101 with a D washer like the # 5-23 would give you no advantage.

The TruRyde Replacement D Tang Spindle Washer # 5-101 that you referenced has a 1-inch inner diameter to fit on 1-inch diameter spindles. The #42 Spindle # TRU57FR does come with a Standard Washer # SW1000, Cotter Pin # 165649, and Castle Nut # 165686 to secure the hub to the spindle. The D-Washer # 5-23 and Tang Washer # 5-101 were created to allow for a Grease Zerk # LC44XV to fit the end of the spindle and allow you to grease the hub bearings without removing the hub.
