Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Replacement Spindle Washer

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this replacement Tang Type Spindle Washer for E-Z Lube. Now this spindle washer has a thickness of 1/32 of an inch with an inner diameter of 1 inch. And let me go ahead and just get my ruler here real quick to confirm that inner diameter for you. Hopefully, my camera will stay in focus there. So as you can see, we're sitting right at 1 inch.

And as you probably know, when you install this, you are going to bend one of these two tangs up into a slot for your castle nut, and that's what holds your castle nut in place and it keeps it from backing off. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope the information was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

All of the parts I ordered arrived together and nothing was damaged, so that’s a plus. Ordering the seal puller and 7 piece installation set was definitely a good investment, because it definitely made everything that much easier to install!

Excellent. So nice to have the exact parts to do the job right the first time.

These tanged washer were replacements for my camper trailer hubs. I wanted to place new tang washers on my spindles because the old ones had be removed and reinstalled several times. Didn't want to take a chance of tab breaking off on the road.

My wheels are still on the camper and we have traveled more than 7,000 miles since.

by:

Perfect fit. My trailer was borrowed and came back with a replaced hub - while servicing the hubs I noticed that the replaced hub did not have one of these installed. Scary. Ordered one from Etrailer and had it a few days later, shipping was cheaper than running all over town trying to run this part down.

Thanks for taking the time to follow up with me. Ive only put a few hundred miles of use on the trailer but everything is working great. Ive actually recommended etrailer to my father, a friend of mine and anyone at work who would listen made easier by the fact that I had everything I ordered shipped to my job instead of home. Barring an emergency situation that requires an immediate solution you have my business in the future.

Great customer service

Just what I needed, and shipping was fa st!!!

by:

An odd, yet necessary, item when doing bearings on a boat trailer (it locks the castle nut in place). I live in an "inland" area and while local bearing providers stocked the bearings, they didn't stock the lock washer. Fortunately etrailer did and they were inexpensive and promptly shipped.

The product is one of those place and forget things. Having been installed, it has never given me any problems which is the nature of such place and forget things. So, still pleased.

by:

Web site was easy to navigate to find the item I needed, ordering was seamless, item shipped and delivered in a short time frame. Just what I needed. Thanks!!

by:

When repacking the bearings on my trailer, the lock rings were damaged. Unable to find them locally, I checked etrailer and there they were! I submitted my order, which was received in record time, and with the correct item. I do a fair amount of ordering online, and etrailer sets the standard in my opinion. Communication and follow-up from etrailer is excellent. Have recommended etrailer to my friends, and will continue to do so. A+++++!!!!!

Very happy. My parts requirement was very small, but not available around here. Although this part doesnt generally wear in normal use, it has done the exact job so far, and the service/shipping were extraordinary. Next time I need trailer parts, etrailer.com will be where I go!

by:

Product is as expected.

by:

Worked perfectly!

by:

Glad I grabbed extra of these when I want to service the bearings.

by:

I needed it, they had it, exact part. I paid, they shipped, perfect

by:

I purchased 2 galvanized wheels and 2 galvanized hubs. The box they shipped the items in was sealed well with staples and was robust, but the items weren't separate well at all. Whomever packaged the order placed a few pieces of packing paper inside. All the items were tossed around and dinged up. The threaded wheel lugs on the hub were dented and needed to be filed and thread chased. Other than that, the products seem nice, but time will tell.

by:

Please see the attached picture of the broken parts I found when inspecting the wheel bearing on my boat trailer.
I was unaware of the tang wheel bearing washer assembly until I visited your website and watched the installation video.
I had never seen any other method than the cotter pin assembly to retain the bearing on the axle.
I was glad to see the the actual way the washer was manufactured. It didn't seem right that the small tab alone cold retain the bearing.
Thank you for the video and the prompt delivery of the needed parts.

by:

Great products and very helpful installation videos.Etrailer is the go to for trailer parts.

by:

exact replacement

by:

These were just what I needed and they are working great. The technician that did the repair work on my trailer did not have the correct washers so because I had these washers from Etrailer he was able to complete his repair work.

by:

I wish I could give a 5-star review. My order arrived quickly and the most important parts arrived in good condition. However, I ordered 4 Spindle washers and only received 3. Fortunately I order 2 extra to keep as spare parts so it does not stop my project, but I'm out $5.56. etrailer has always done a great job so I will give them a second chance.

by:

Best spindle washer I have ever purchas ed!!!

by:

The team at etrailer are not only knowledgeable but also fantastic at resolving issues and making right by their customers. They really know their products and provide exceptional customer experience.

by:

Very good customer service, Austin was very knowledgeable, all the parts I bought worked perfect. Also recommend etrailer to a neighbor who wants to replace his trailer brakes.

by:

Thank you for helping verify the right size hubs for my 30 year old trailer. The parts work as expected

  • Should There Be a Washer on Trailer Spindle Between Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing
There really should be a flat washer between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be used on a spindle that has a flat side and uses the same castle nut and cotter pin setup. A Tongue Washer,...

  • Method for removing and Installing Tang-Style Spindles Washers
A replacement tang-style spindle washer like part # 5-101 is intended to be installed behind the castle nut and have its prongs bent down so that they prevent the castle nut from rotating on an E-Z Lube type spindle. The castle nut holds the washer in place, of course, and the washer's prongs fold down into the gaps in the nut to prevent it from loosening on the spindle. The removal and re-installation processes are shown for you in the linked video.

  • Correct D-Washer for Spindle That measures 1.06" Where the Bearings Sit
Hi Lindsey, the correct D washer for your setup is part # 5-23, and you’re absolutely right to double check this since that washer is what keeps everything locked in place and your bearings properly adjusted. You do want to stick with a D washer for your EZ Lube spindle and not a tang washer like part # 5-101. In your case the measurements you gave line up with the common setup that uses that size. Your measurement of about 1.06 at the bearing surface corresponds to a spindle that uses...

  • How to Find the Correct Idler Hub Replacement for Boat Trailer
In order to find the correct wheel bearings, you can take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you would need to use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure. I've also added a link to a help...
