Question:

I have an ez lube spindle that measures 1.06 where the bearings ride and 1.50 where the grease seal rides. It takes a D washer but should i get one with the tab that sticks out or the flat washer? Thanks

Hi Lindsey, the correct D washer for your setup is part # 5-23, and you’re absolutely right to double check this since that washer is what keeps everything locked in place and your bearings properly adjusted.

You do want to stick with a D washer for your EZ Lube spindle and not a tang washer like part # 5-101. In your case the measurements you gave line up with the common setup that uses that size. Your measurement of about 1.06 at the bearing surface corresponds to a spindle that uses an outer bearing like L44649, which means the washer needs to fit that roughly 1 inch flat on the threaded portion of the spindle. The 5-23 is designed for exactly that and will seat correctly and keep the nut from rotating.

As long as the washer sits flush and doesn’t have any play, the flat d-washer will work perfectly fine.
