Video Transcript for What to Know About the Dexter Trailer Coupler

This right here is the Titan Adjustable Trailer Coupler. This is gonna be for your two and five-sixteenth inch ball and it's gonna give us 14,000 pounds of capacity, which is quite a bit. It'd be great for your construction trailers, your enclosed trailers, pretty much any trailer with this front channel right here. So if you have a channel on your trailer already great, if you don't, we have some on our website that you can grab. We have a bunch of different sizes and stuff when it comes to how many holes they really have. You just wanna make sure that the inside width is gonna be three inches.

You wanna make sure that holes are five eighths inches in diameter. And then the span between the two from center to center there need to be two inches apart and then you're good to go. We have a lot of cool things going on with this but it doesn't come with hardware. So what I recommend doing is grabbing hardware. What we're using right now is grade eight.

I'd rather go ahead and grab the better type of hardware. Grade eight's gonna be a little bit stronger than grade five and some of the others, but that's just all up to you. All you need to make sure is that the overall length of it's gonna be five inches and then the diameter is five eighths of an inch. One thing I noticed with this, though we have a little bit of play there. We have this fully tightened down and torqued spec, but what I recommend doing is maybe add a couple more washers, maybe one, two on each side, just to take some of that play out.

I just think whenever something's not completely tight in there, it's going to wear down your trailer, your coupler, and your hardware a little bit quicker. I've messed with a lot of couplers, what sets this one apart is the little ring right here. Uh, my fingers aren't too big, but if you did have gloves on it might be a little too big to get through there. So let's get you a little measurement. So the diameter of the whole is gonna be seven eighths of an inch.

But that's what you use to lift it up like this and it stays up like that. You can take your ball, back up to it, and then whenever you're done, you just latch it in and it fits into this little slot here. So that's kind of cool if that's something that you're really looking for. Maybe if you have a little bit of troubles getting some of the latches up on other couplers, this one's gonna be pretty easy for you. And then another thing it doesn't come with is a pin. We're gonna wanna put a pin in here. So you don't really need a massive pin here, but I recommend if you're grabbing a pin, might as well get one that's going to lock. So we have one that is gonna work with multiple different spans. It's an etrailer designed product, so it's pretty cool. You can use it on multiple different size couplers, anything from like a half inch thick, all the way to two and a half inches thick. So you can use it on multiple different trailers. I highly recommend locking this up, especially if you're keeping it outside your house, or at the job site, just to give you peace of mind. so it's there whenever you have to use it again. And there's another way that you can lock this since it has a little lip right here we have another one we designed that kind of slides over and it covers the bottom completely so no one can even take a smaller ball when it's like this and latch it in there. So I recommend grabbing a locking pen for sure. Cause you have to grab one anyway, cause none, nothing comes with it, but also grabbing another one for extra security. That's what I would do. If you're hauling in the winter or if you're on the coast, the steel construction that it's made out of is zinc coded, so it's gonna resist against that corrosion a little bit better. I think that's something that kind of sets it apart. Between that and the little easy latch feature that you can use your finger with. I think that's gonna be the bread and butter of this. I've used a lot of these couplers, did a lot of videos and installed a lot of them. It doesn't install any easier than any of the others but the coating for resistance against corrosion and the little finger hole here to make it a little bit easier. It's really, what's going to set this apart from some of the others, and at the end of the day that's pretty much it for a look at the Titan Adjustable Channel Mount Trailer Coupler..

  • Is Play Between Channel Mounted Coupler and Channel Normal
A little bit of play between the coupler and the channel is normal. As long as the bolts are properly torqued, the play won't damage or harm anything. We've confirmed this with our channel mount coupler manufacturers like Bulldog and Titan.

  • Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator With Electric Lockout
There are only a few hydraulic drum brake actuators that come with electric lockouts, and the right one will depend on the size of the channel you are bolting it to. The Titan Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop and Electric Lockout # T4854020 is large, fitting on a 4" wide channel and coupling to a 2-5/16" hitch ball. Based on your trailer's GVWR of just under 6,000 lbs you likely have a 3" wide channel (though you will need to verify this). So what I recommend instead is the Titan Brake...
