Kodiak Trailer Brakes - KOD67VR

Highlights

  • Stops Smooth and Fast: Disc design gives shorter stopping distances and consistent braking for safer control.
  • Fights Rust in Harsh Conditions: Dacromet coating resists corrosion from salt, slush, and water with a 300–400-hour salt spray rating.
  • Saves Time on Upgrades: Pre-assembled 1-piece hub-and-rotor kit includes bearings, seals, bolts, and lug nuts for one axle.
  • Runs Cooler on Long Hauls: Vented rotors dissipate heat faster to reduce brake fade and extend pad life.
  • Needs Less Maintenance: Few moving parts and ceramic pads mean fewer adjustments and easier pad swaps.
  • Built for Heavy Loads: Rated for 8,000-lb axles with #42 spindles, 13" rotors, and 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.

Features to know about

Upgrade From Drum to Disc Brakes: One-Piece Hub-and-Rotor Assembly for Consistent Stopping

If your drum brakes are wearing out or fading on long grades, this Kodiak 13" disc kit makes a big difference. The one-piece hub-and-rotor assembly keeps water and debris out, reducing runout and uneven wear. Ceramic brake pads and a large 2-1/2" stainless steel piston deliver fast, controlled braking you can feel every time you tow. Rated for 8,000-lb Dexter axles with a #42 spindle, this setup gives you short stopping distances and smoother control at highway speeds.

Built to Handle Salt, Slush, and Spray: Dacromet Coating Resists Corrosion

Saltwater and road chemicals can eat through standard brakes fast. These Dacromet-coated hub-and-rotor assemblies, calipers, and brackets are designed to last in those conditions, holding up to 300–400 hours of continuous salt spray before rust begins. They’re perfect for use in coastal areas, freshwater launches, or snowy climates where corrosion protection matters most.

Keeps Cool Under Load: Vented Rotors Prevent Brake Fade

Heavy towing and mountain driving can generate serious heat, but these vented rotors are built to take it. The vented design moves air through the rotors to shed heat quickly, helping prevent brake fade and premature pad wear. Even with frequent trips or heavy loads, braking stays consistent and strong for the long haul.

Simplifies Maintenance: Fewer Parts and Easy Pad Replacement

These brakes are made with fewer moving parts than drum systems—no springs, magnets, or cables to maintain. The calipers sit on the outside of the assembly, so when the pads eventually wear down, you just remove one part to swap them out. That means less crawling under the trailer and more time towing with confidence.

Complete Kit for One Axle: Ready-to-Mount Components

Everything you need for one axle comes in the box—two Dacromet-plated hub-and-rotor assemblies with inner (25580) and outer (02475) bearings, races, grease seals (10-36), E-Z Lube caps, stainless caliper bolts, wheel bolts, and zinc-plated lug nuts. All you’ll add are brake lines and a hydraulic actuator rated at 1,500 psi or higher to activate the system. It’s a straightforward bolt-on upgrade built for durability and performance.

Fantastic love it. Worth every cent I paid for it. All big trailer should come with discus brakes standard . Stopping power is like night and day there a big difference.
by:
Dexter works well but sadly these come with china bearing. I order Timken instead. Wish you could get the best with the best in one package. Probably should be an option. Maybe it is and I missed it.

Nothing new which is good news, although I will replace the bearings sometime this winter with Timken. This is the stock brake for Morryde IIS and it work well enough. The China bearing are what it comes with, but in an effort to not have to worrywonder, Timken is my choice. Not sure about some of the complaints but other than cardboard not holding up to heavy metal mine were new and good. I believe sometimes returns and part get put in a box a second time and that screws everyone up. Not being an upgrade, I am not sure there is another choice even if I wanted it.

I replaced my drum brake system last year
I was very impressed with the additional stopping power.
I paid extra for the Dacromet material so that I wouldn't have to deal with them rusting during periods of non use.
When I opeed the trailer for the season, this is what I found.

Not happy!
by:
Your plastic caps are terrible
They heat up and fall off

It’s a disgrace that you would offer them
The set set should be sold with metal caps
by:
Lauren is great. I wished I would have let her handle everything!!!

by:
Seams to be quality product.Does NOT come with mounting bolts for the caliper bracket mounts so make sure you have 8 -7/16 nuts and bolts on hand if you are switching from factory brake setup.
by:
Kodiak stainless steel disc trailer brakes are phenomenal! Super durable especially in saltwater environments. They last for years
by:
Perfect fit and much easier to work on, compared to the original Dexter brake assemblies.

No regrets and loving the product design.

by:
One caliper failed (broke from flange) after 2000 miles. Had to reach out to Dexter for prompt warranty replacement. etrailer was very helpful in getting me in touch with the manufacturer.
by:
Good Product, Great service.
by:
Kodiak disc brake kits look very nicely made and work well with no issues.
by:
Delivered on time. I did not give it a 5 because the boxes were pretty torn up upon arrival. Other than that everything went well.
by:
These rotors and calipers are very impressive, they look better than I expected. Can’t wait to install them.

I decided to go with the Kodiak set up and we couldn’t be happier with the service with them. I feel that the trailer stops around 40 better.

by:
I bought the brake kit to repair the Kodiak brake kit that I installed over 10 years ago. I am very pleased with the kit. I lost a caliper and it damaged the rotor. I had a service teck grease my wheel bearings and I suspect he did not use lock tight on the caliper pins and did not thoroughly tighten the pins on one side. Shipping is an issue. The box is very heavy and was badly damaged during shipping. I was sent the wrong kit and received a correct kit a week later. Both shipping boxes were destroyed. Cannibalized one box to fix the other box (lots of packing tape) to return the initial kit.
by:
I'm so glad I swapped out these old drums. Installation was a breeze. Yes, I painted the calipers to match the Brembos on my Jeep SRT.
by:
Package box had a lot of damage. Bearings were not sealed in any packaging and were loose in the box. Not of the items had damage but I am not use to this type of quality from etrailer. etrailer is a very good company.
by:
Got them installed but haven't had the time to try them.
by:
worked well with no probs
by:
Quality is absolutely terrible. The Castings look like rejects. There is massive pitting of the metal. There are sharp edges where the part was cut from the casting trees. The caliper mount bracket is a casting that makes the caliper sit much further inboard than most of the other style brackets. When I tried to mount the caliper to the bracket, after the bracket was bolted to the axle flange. The Rotor inside of the rotor dragged on the caliper bracket. I had to grind away some of the metal of the bracket so that the hub/rotor would rotate freely. Where the rotor is bolted to the adapter, None of the bolts are recessed or set in the preformed holes as they should be. This is obviously very poor China or elsewhere manufacturing. Kodiak(DEXTER) should be ashamed of themselves for selling this junk.
by:
Always a helpful crew!
by:
Boat stays slipped used the trailer 4 times and caliper failed already.

I am sorry to hear about your experience with these brakes. We will reach out shortly and help resolve this for you.

by:
My parts seem to be old inventory that have been moved around in the warehouse for a while. Parts came loosely packaged in a kodiak factory box. Hub/rotor and brackets banging into each other causing scratches on surfaces. The races and bolts that hold the hub/rotor have a bit of surface rust. It's nothing to affect the performance of the parts but it is what it is. A little scotch brite and good as new.
by:
Everything fit as described. Much thanks to Alex for all his help. Very pleased with my trailer brake upgrade.
by:
It was several days late but that is not the fault of your company but a delay by UPS due to severe weather events. I was helped by a person named Eric P. who told me exactly what I needed and what kit to buy. The online install videos were very helpful as I had never done this before.

  • Replacement Wheel Studs For A 3,500lb Trailer Hub Assembly
Hey Mike, We sell replacement studs in single or multiple quantities depending on the specific sizing. For a 3,500lb trailer hub you most likely need the # DE52GR but I recommend punching one of your current ones out and comparing. The # DE52GR is 2" in length with a 1/2"-20 thread size. If you find your hubs have a different size wheel stud just let me know and I'd be happy to look for the correct replacement.

  • Recommendation for Converting 2021 KZ Durango gold G356RLT to Disc Brakes
Hey Scott, welcome back! So since we know your 2021 KZ Durango gold G356RLT has a tandem 8k axle setup the correct and best parts you need to convert it to disc brakes would be to start with the Kodiak 8k dacromet coated disc brake kit part # KOD67VR. This is a single axle set of left and right assemblies so you would need two of these. Then for a kit that includes everything else you'll need you would want the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi...

  • Kodiak Disc Brake Kit for Trailer with Lippert 8k Trailer Axles
Hey Nakit, thanks for all of the details on your setup. It's pretty rare we get that much info but it is really helpful. So the Kodiak disc brake kit you would want is the # KOD67VR which covers everything you are needing and matches everything as well. You'll need three sets of this since you have a triple axle. Since disc brake setups require higher PSIs than what you have (1,600 psi) you'd also need to replace your actuator with the # HBA16.

  • Looking For Kodiak Disc Brake Kit For Commercial Transport With 8,000 lb Lippert Axles
Hello Naka, thanks for reaching out, and thanks for providing all that info. Basically all you will need here are disc brake kits and a new 1,600 PSI actuator for disc brakes. • Difference Between Dexter and AL-KO/Quality Kodiak Disc Brake Kits

  • Disc Brake Kit Recommendation for 8K Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks
Hey Kyle! The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks # RM-2460-2580-3 can be used with disc brakes like the Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD67VR but aside from that we unfortunately don't have any 8K axles - the heaviest we have is rated for 7K. For something more in that HD range you'll need to have a trailer shop or RV dealer custom order an axle for you.
