If you’re tired of long stops or uneven braking from old drum setups, this Kodiak kit is a big step up. The 13" hub-and-rotor assemblies deliver strong, consistent braking with a large 2-1/2" stainless steel piston and ceramic brake pads. Each assembly is built to handle an 8,000-lb axle with a #42 spindle and uses an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern with 5/8" wheel bolts. The result is smooth, responsive braking that feels steady even at highway speeds.

Coastal air or salted winter roads can corrode standard brakes fast. These Dacromet-plated cast iron hubs, rotors, calipers, and brackets are made to last in harsh conditions. The coating withstands 300 to 400 hours of continuous salt spray—comparable to galvanized steel—so you can tow confidently in wet or salty environments without worrying about rust taking over.

Heat is the enemy of braking power, especially on long grades or heavy tows. The vented rotors on this kit disperse heat quickly to prevent fade and pad wear. Kodiak’s one-piece hub-and-rotor design also keeps water and debris from getting between components, reducing the chance of uneven wear or runout. Fewer parts mean fewer maintenance hassles and a longer-lasting brake setup.

Each kit includes two Dacromet hub-and-rotor assemblies with inner (25580) and outer (02475) bearings, matching races, oil seals, oil caps, synthetic bearing oil, wheel bolts, and lug nuts—everything needed to upgrade one axle. Hydraulic activation requires a brake actuator rated at 1,500 psi or higher and compatible brake lines (sold separately). The kit uses standard 3/16" fittings with a 3/8"-24 thread size for easy connection to Kodiak hydraulic line kits.
With no springs or magnets to adjust, these disc brakes are virtually maintenance-free compared to drum systems. When it’s time for service, the calipers sit on the outside of the assembly so pads can be swapped quickly without pulling everything apart. Built with automotive-grade quality and backed by a 3-year warranty, this Kodiak setup delivers reliable stopping power season after season.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 13-inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This is gonna allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum breaks to disc brakes so that you can get all the benefits that come along with having disc brakes, including the superior performance that they provide. So this set is going to allow you to upgrade a single Dexter axle with an 8,000 pound capacity and the number 42 spindles. Our rotors are 13 inches in diameter, and as you can see, we have the 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern, so these are gonna work for your wheels that are 16 inches and larger. Our hub and rotors, our calipers and our mounting brackets all have a Dacromet finish that's gonna offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance with a 300 to 400-hour salt-spray rating, so these are gonna be great for your boat trailers and trailers that are used in coastal areas or that come in contact with heavily treated roads and that sort of thing.
So if you are going to be in those sort of environments, these are gonna hold up really well for you. If you're looking at your good, better, best as far as your trailer breaks go with those finishes, I'd say the only thing better than these is going to be just a stainless steel construction. But as far as finishes go, the Dacromet is gonna hold up really well and do a good job for you. So upgrading your trailer from drum breaks to disc brakes is going to have several benefits as far as performance goes. It's going to dramatically shorten your stopping distance.
It's also going to give you a much smoother, more controlled ride so you're not going to experience that push and pull that you're probably used to when you're pulling your trailer that has the drum brakes. We do have the ceramic brake pads here that are going to help increase your stopping power. There's also a large 2 1/2 inch diameter stainless steel piston here that provides fast responsive braking, so it is gonna be a much better performing break for you. And in addition to better performance, these are also going to require less maintenance, so it is gonna save you time and money over the long run. Having that one piece hub and rotor assembly is gonna reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear.
We also have the vented design here on the side that's gonna help dissipate heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. And all around these are a nice high-quality automotive grade construction, so they are gonna be very long lasting, help save you money in that way as well. The caveat that comes with upgrading to disc brakes is that disc brakes do require a higher line pressure than your drum brakes, so you are going to need to make sure you have a brake actuator and brake lines that are rated for 1,500 psi or higher in order to activate your drum or your disc brakes here. Now, obviously, those are not included in this kit. We do sell them separately here at etrailer.com.
But if you don't already have them, you will need to pick those up. But this kit will provide the two cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the eight 5/8 inch diameter pre-installed wheel bolts on each. You're also going to get 16 of these 5/8 inch zinc-plated steel lug nuts to make sure that your wheel stays in place. You'll get the two cast iron calipers as well as the two ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. And so these do have the four bolt brake flange configuration, so it is gonna be very easy to get these mounted on your axle. I do want to point out that just for display purposes, I have these mounted on top for balance and whatnot. When you actually go to install these, you will be mounting them on the side, and that side support design puts all the weight on the mounting bracket itself instead of on the bolts, so it's gonna reduce the strain on the bolts, help them last longer. You are gonna get four of these stainless steel caliper mounting bolts with this kit. Our inner and outer races are pre-installed, and so those are included as well. And then you're going to get your inner and outer bearings to make sure everything's moving smoothly for us. And then this kit is an oil lubricated system, and so you'll get your two oil seals for the inside, your two oil caps for the outside, and then one 8 ounce bottle of synthetic bearing oil to make sure that everything's running smoothly inside there. So again, upgrading to disc brakes is gonna improve your performance, reduce your maintenance and having that Dacromet finish is going to make sure that these are nice long lasting option for you. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

I'm so glad we were able to turn this experience around for you and that these are still working great for you, James! How often do you tow?

I really like what I purchased. The system is really good and my trailer stops on a diamond gives 9 cents back, this is the way to go on any big trailer. Disks are amazing. No heat way better breaking, less maintenance. You know, the other thing? I did was upgraded My hubs to oil bath, which is another brilliant thing, again less maintenance. Better for the trailer, very impressed. The only negative thing I can say is that the seals for the oil bath are subpare and leaked after only 10 miles then 59 miles, so I had to go to a different manufacture and company and found a very robust seal that worked because the 2 times that yours failed that came from e trailer wasnt good. This is one problem. I think that they need to address and fix the other one. Is the caliper mounting bracket? When you put it on to the existing bolts on the spindle. The factory bolts are not long enough and I think that they should be changed. To a longer one so that you have according to engineering standards API three Threads showing when the nut is Torqued, you cant do it because the caliper mountain bracket is so thick and the bolts arent long enough. I Needed to change those bolts to longer bolt so that you can do this properly and have 3 threads showing past the nut When its torque down. Other than these 2 problems, everything seem to work very well and Im pleased.I have no other issues or concerns Prices were fair.Product came quick and Im real happy. So Far no other complaints for concerns.

Really happy to hear that, Eric! Thanks for sharing the photo too :) When do you get to take the boat out on the water again?
